Open the communication wheel, switch to its emote option, then select an emote. The exact input depends on your platform, controller or keyboard-and-mouse setup, and any custom bindings, so use the controls shown in your current game if the shortcuts below do not match.
Use an emote on PC
An Overwatch Forums reply from 2018 describes this PC shortcut: press C to open the communication wheel, then right-click to access the emote menu. Left-click accesses voice lines, according to that same player-reported guidance. Treat these as a starting point rather than a current official control chart; check your active bindings if either input behaves differently. Source: Overwatch Forums.
Use an emote on console
A 2022 tutorial describes opening the communication wheel with the D-pad and selecting emotes from it. It does not establish an authoritative, current button map for every console or controller configuration, so follow the prompts shown in your game and check your bindings rather than assuming one D-pad direction works everywhere. Why does pressing C trigger Praise?
In a February 2026 Overwatch Forums discussion, a PC player reported that tapping C triggered Praise. A reply said the player could change the delay or tap-for-Praise behavior under Options → Controls → Hero & HUD, near the bottom of that section. This is a recent player-reported path, not an official control reference; menu labels and behavior may differ in your build. Source: Overwatch Forums, February 2026.

Check your input setup and bindings
- Confirm the active input device. Platform and input device are not always the same: Blizzard’s Season 18 information says native mouse-and-keyboard support was introduced for console players. That establishes an input option, not a specific emote binding. Source: Blizzard Season 18 information.
- Check the controls in your current game. If the wheel does not open as expected, inspect the communication or emote binding and follow the on-screen prompts. The sources available do not establish a current official, platform-by-platform emote mapping.
- Distinguish a quick tap from opening the wheel. If tapping your wheel key triggers Praise, look for the wheel-delay or tap behavior setting described above, and verify its label and effect in your build.
- Account for custom bindings. Shortcuts reported for a default or earlier setup may not match controls you have changed.
