To use Discord voice chat on an Xbox console, link your Discord and Xbox accounts, update the console, then open the Xbox Guide and choose Parties & chats > Discord Voice. Pick a server and voice channel. You can also transfer a Discord call from a phone or desktop. Discord voice and Xbox Party Chat cannot be used at the same time on Xbox, so choose one for that session.
What you need before joining Discord on Xbox
- A Discord account linked to the Xbox profile you intend to use.
- An Xbox console running its latest software.
- For transferring a call from a phone, the Xbox app installed on that device.
- For starting on Discord desktop, both the Discord and Xbox mobile apps, plus a phone to scan the transfer QR code.
Discord is not a standalone Xbox app. Once the accounts are linked, you can access Discord voice through the Xbox Guide or move a call from Discord on another device. See Discord’s Discord and Xbox Connection FAQ, updated May 27, 2026, for the account-linking and connection instructions.
Join a Discord voice channel from the Xbox console
- Link your Discord account to the Xbox profile you will use.
- Sign in to that Xbox profile and update the console to its latest software.
- Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the Guide.
- Open Parties & chats > Discord Voice.
- Select a Discord server, then choose the voice channel you want to join.
This route starts on the console and does not describe a QR-code transfer.
Transfer Discord voice from a phone
- Link your Discord and Xbox accounts, and install the Xbox app on your phone.
- In Discord mobile, join the voice channel you want to use.
- Swipe up to open the channel’s audio controls and choose Join on Xbox.
- In the Xbox app, select your console and tap Transfer Audio.
Discord says the mobile voice controls for muting or deafening are reflected on Xbox after transfer.

Transfer Discord voice from a desktop
- Link your accounts and install both the Discord and Xbox mobile apps on a phone.
- Join the desired voice channel in Discord desktop.
- In the focused voice channel, select the phone-and-controller icon, or right-click the channel name and choose Transfer Voice to Xbox.
- Scan the QR code with your phone and follow the prompts in Discord mobile.
Although this transfer begins on desktop, the phone is still needed to scan the code and complete the workflow.
Which connection method should you use?

Can you stay in Xbox Party Chat?
No. Discord says a user in a transferred Discord voice channel cannot remain in Xbox Party Chat. For that session, use the Discord channel or Xbox Party Chat; the documented flow does not support both together.

Fix common Discord-on-Xbox setup problems
- The console says it needs an update: update Xbox software, then try the transfer again.
- Your linked accounts do not show Discord Voice: if you linked them before Discord Voice became available on Xbox, Discord says you may need to link them again.
- The transfer cannot find or reach your console: confirm you have the Xbox app for a mobile transfer and that the Xbox profile appears online. A desktop-started transfer also needs the Discord mobile app to scan the QR code and finish setup.
- You need to communicate outside Xbox: Discord’s FAQ says Xbox privacy settings should allow Everybody and lists Allow for cross-network play. Exact setting availability may vary with the account and console interface.
- Voice connects but audio does not work: Discord directs users with post-transfer audio problems to Xbox Support. The documented instructions do not establish headset-specific settings or fixes.
