In Borderlands 4, Eridium can reset Specialization points, start Moxxi’s Big Encore, transfer Firmware between compatible gear, and activate the Ordonite Processor. The current official fee for a Specialization reset is 1,500 Eridium; other published fees are guide-reported or, for the Processor, not stated in official notes. Check the live prompt before spending because patches can change costs.
What can you spend Eridium on?
| Use | What it does | Cost and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Specialization reset | Refunds endgame Specialization points so you can reallocate them. The Specialization menu opens after the campaign. | 1,500 Eridium, according to Gearbox’s October 2025 update notes, which reduced the previous 5,000-Eridium fee. Gearbox update notes. |
| Moxxi’s Big Encore | Starts a tougher rematch against the weekly featured boss, with a more rewarding loot pool. The featured boss rotates; check the in-game map or activity listing. | Shacknews and All Things How report 100 Eridium per activation. Treat this as a guide-reported fee and confirm the machine’s current prompt. Shacknews; All Things How. |
| Firmware Transfer | Moves a Firmware bonus from a donor item to another item in a compatible category. The donor item is destroyed. Eligible gear includes ordnance, repkits, shields, and—according to guides—class mods and enhancements. | All Things How reports 80 Eridium plus a variable cash cost, while Shacknews describes the Eridium fee as dependent on gear type without giving a number. Treat 80 as a guide-reported figure, not a confirmed universal price, and check the transfer screen. All Things How; Shacknews. |
| Ordonite Processor | Starts enemy waves, some of which drop Ordonite. Recycle collected Ordonite in the Processor to attract corrupted enemies that can drop Pearlescent gear. The repeatable activity has locations in Fadefields, Carcadia Burn, and Terminus Range. | Gearbox confirms activation uses Eridium but does not state the amount in its February 2026 update notes. Check the in-game prompt. Gearbox update notes. |
How the Specialization reset price changed
Some launch-period guides still list a 5,000-Eridium reset. That was the earlier price: Gearbox’s October 2025 notes explicitly reduced the Specialization Respec Machine cost from 5,000 to 1,500 Eridium. Use the current in-game prompt if a later patch changes it.

How to choose where to spend it
- Need to change your build? Use the Specialization Respec Machine after the campaign.
- Chasing a particular boss’s loot? Check which boss is featured in Big Encore this week, then compare its prompt fee with your available Eridium.
- Want to keep a Firmware bonus on upgraded gear? Transfer it only after checking that the destination is compatible and you are willing to destroy the donor item.
- Farming Pearlescent gear? Use Eridium to activate the Ordonite Processor, then recycle Ordonite there to draw corrupted enemies.
There is no established universal best use: it depends on what you are trying to unlock or improve, what the game currently charges, and whether the activity is available to you.
How to get more Eridium
Several guides identify repeatable activities and incidental rewards as sources. Shacknews calls Vile Bounties an effective endgame source; they become available with Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode and pay Eridium for kills. Guides also list repeatable contracts such as bounties and patrols, challenges, replayable missions, world bosses, regular missions, Vile enemies, and random enemy drops. Campaign and side missions can award Eridium, as can one-time Safehouse and Silo rewards. These are reported routes, not a controlled comparison of earnings per hour, so the best option for an individual run is not established.

If you are still progressing through the campaign
Collect Eridium and be cautious about spending based on old reset-price guides: the official October 2025 fee is 1,500, not 5,000. After reaching endgame, choose a spending target based on your immediate goal rather than assuming one activity is always the best value.
