Time that follow-up exactly and it becomes a Perfect Fatal Flash, which guarantees dismemberment. The “double dodge” is a separate mechanic; the official sources cited here do not confirm a universal second-dodge timing or button sequence.
How to trigger Fatal Flash
- Watch for an incoming attack. Fatal Flash starts with anticipating and parrying the enemy’s attack, rather than using the counter input on its own. Team NINJA’s combat-system overview describes Fatal Flash as a parry followed by a swift counter.
- Follow the successful parry with Fatal Flash right away. Producer/director Yuji Nakao describes it as an instant follow-up input after matching your attack with the enemy’s. A successful Fatal Flash can force a Blood Essence drop even if the enemy survives, giving you an opportunity to use Ultimate Guidance or reposition, according to his Xbox Wire interview.
How Perfect Fatal Flash works
Perfect Fatal Flash is not a separate parry: it is the result of entering Fatal Flash at the exact right moment after the parry. Nakao’s developer combat guide, published December 12, 2025, says that precise timing guarantees dismemberment. It does not give a universal numeric timing window, so there is no confirmed number of frames or seconds to memorize.
Base Form and Bloodraven Form

Both effects depend on landing the Perfect Fatal Flash timing. Choose Bloodraven Form when its broader hit coverage is useful and you are willing to spend Bloodbind Gauge; Base Form’s stated effect is limited to the parried enemy. The official guide does not promise that every enemy in the area will be hit by the Bloodraven attack.
Weapon timing and range
The parry-state window and Fatal Flash attack range vary by weapon, so do not assume one weapon’s timing or reach transfers exactly to another. The developer guide notes that Takeminakata has a wider attack range but a slightly stricter parry window. Wider reach therefore does not mean an easier parry.

What to know about double dodge
Double dodge is a separate movement question, not part of the Fatal Flash sequence. A third-party guide, Nerd’sChalk’s October 21, 2025 article, claims a 0.25-second window for a second dodge and lists button inputs. The official combat sources cited here do not verify that timing or those inputs, so treat them as unconfirmed rather than as a reliable universal instruction. Check the in-game controls for your platform and test dodge timing in play rather than relying on that specific figure.

A successful Fatal Flash can produce Blood Essence even without defeating the enemy, according to Nakao’s interview. That drop can create an opening for Ultimate Guidance or repositioning. The official system overview also explains that Bloodraven Form and Ryu’s Gleam Form attacks use gauge resources; form attacks can break guards or stagger enemies during a Power Attack, while a dismembered enemy can be finished with a heavy-attack Obliteration. These are separate combat options, not additional steps required to trigger Fatal Flash.
