Roblox does not provide a universal Freecam button in the normal in-experience Settings menu. Most players can only use the camera controls allowed by the experience. The documented developer freecam shortcut is Ctrl + Shift + P, but it requires Developer access to that experience. In Roblox Studio, you can use the viewport’s built-in editor camera freely while building or playtesting.
How to use Roblox freecam as a player
In an experience where you have Developer access—the Roblox developer forum identifies this with a hammer icon—click into the game window and press Ctrl + Shift + P. This is a keyboard shortcut, not a chat command or Luau command.
The shortcut will not work in every experience. Ordinary players cannot activate Roblox’s built-in developer freecam simply by pressing the keys; the experience owner must grant the relevant access or provide a custom camera system.
There is also no universal Freecam option in the regular Roblox Settings menu. Roblox’s documented camera choices are Classic and Follow, with Shift Lock Switch available when the experience permits it. See Roblox’s in-experience Settings documentation.

Normal camera controls without freecam
On desktop, Classic camera mode lets you rotate the view by holding the right mouse button and dragging. In Follow mode, the camera rotates with your avatar as the avatar moves left or right.
You can change the camera mode from the in-experience menu when the developer has not locked it. If the experience has locked its camera mode, the Classic/Follow controls may be unavailable.

Why common freecam shortcuts do not work
- “Press Shift + P in any game”: this is not generally correct. The current developer-community documentation identifies Ctrl + Shift + P, and it requires Developer access.
- “Freecam is in Roblox Settings”: Roblox’s current support documentation does not list a universal Freecam toggle.
- “CameraToggle is unrestricted freecam”: it is not. CameraToggle provides a desktop-only free-look camera rotation mode; it does not let you fly freely through the world.
Using CameraToggle in your own experience
Developers can set StarterPlayer.DevComputerCameraMovementMode to CameraToggle. On computers, the right mouse button then switches between Classic camera behavior and a free-look mode. This changes the viewing direction, not the camera’s position, and it does not apply to phones or tablets.
In Roblox Studio, select StarterPlayer in Explorer, then scroll to the Camera section in Properties. The related settings include DevComputerCameraMovementMode and DevTouchCameraMovementMode.

How to free-fly the camera in Roblox Studio
Studio’s 3D viewport has a free-flying editor camera. Click inside the viewport first, then use these controls:

Studio also has a beta camera-speed feature. Enable it through File > Beta Features > New Studio Camera Controls. After enabling it, hold the right mouse button and scroll the mouse wheel up or down to increase or decrease camera scroll speed.

This Studio camera is separate from the in-experience developer freecam: Studio controls move the editor viewport while you build or playtest, whereas Ctrl + Shift + P is an in-experience developer tool.

If players need a real freecam in your experience, you must grant access to an existing developer camera or implement a camera system. Roblox’s documented scripting approach is client-side: use a LocalScript, access workspace.CurrentCamera, set its camera type to Scriptable, and update its CFrame.

Fixes when Studio camera controls seem stuck
If playtesting traps the mouse cursor in the center of the screen, press Escape to release it. To stop the test session, press Shift + F5.
