Find three tablets in Sterling Town and the mine, move barrels to uncover the room entrance, then place the tablets beside the one already on the red platform. The route is identified by landmarks in available guides, but exact turns differ, so use the church, minecart, and Strange Mask chamber to orient yourself.
Prepare to enter Sterling Mines
The Jade Sword route begins in Sterling Town. Guides describe the mine entrance as being behind the church and blocked by planks.

- Take a torch from the Sheriff’s building so you can see inside the mine.
- Go behind the church to find the mine entrance.
- Use dynamite near the mine carts to clear the planks blocking the entrance.
- Enter carefully: guides warn that hostile enemies are in the tunnels, so be ready to fight or move cautiously.
Find the three Jade Tablets
Three tablets must be collected. A fourth is already at the red platform in the hidden room, so you do not need to search for it in the tunnels. Guides agree on the main landmarks, but differ on precise turns and the order in which the mine tablets appear.
Tablet near the church
Search in or around the church in Sterling Town for the first tablet. The guides do not establish one exact spot within the church area, so check the building and its immediate surroundings.

Tablet near a minecart
Once inside Sterling Mines, look along the minecart branches and check behind or near a minecart. One guide places this tablet on a left-hand branch; the shared landmark across accounts is the minecart, not a universally consistent turn-by-turn direction.
Tablet in the Strange Mask chamber
Look for the remaining tablet in or near the chamber containing the Strange Mask, beyond a blocked passage in the mine. Some guides call the artifact the “Jade Mask” rather than the “Strange Mask”; the available accounts do not establish whether these names refer to different items or are alternate labels.

Use the tablets to reveal the Jade Sword
- In the mine, move the barrels that conceal the entrance to the hidden room.
- Enter the room and find the red platform, where one tablet is already placed.
- Put the three tablets you collected onto the platform with the existing tablet.
- When the mechanism activates, take the Jade Sword from the opened area.
What the Strange Mask and Jade Sword do
The Strange Mask is a mine artifact located in its own chamber, separate from the tablet mechanism’s final platform. Guides also use the name “Jade Mask,” so treat the naming as uncertain rather than assuming the terms are definitively interchangeable.
Beebom reports that the Jade Sword has a 50% chance to reanimate an enemy killed with it, while TechWiser says sword kills can return as allies. The percentage is a guide-reported figure, not a confirmed current-game rate: no official documentation or independent test establishes its live behavior. The guides also report a $250 sale value at a trading post, but this game-economy detail may change and is not current-version verified.
