Microsoft Rewards can reduce your Xbox and Microsoft spending, but it cannot currently be presented as a guaranteed way to redeem points directly for PC Game Pass. Microsoft’s Rewards with Xbox information says direct Microsoft Store point spending excludes subscriptions, while Xbox gift cards are limited to eligible Microsoft Store purchases under their own terms. Whether a gift-card reward can cover your intended Game Pass purchase depends on the live catalog, your market, and checkout eligibility.
In practice, “free” means earning enough points through Bing, Rewards activities, and eligible Xbox PC play to avoid paying out of pocket. It still costs time, requires a Microsoft account, and comes with changing regional and account-specific restrictions.

What Microsoft Rewards can—and cannot—pay for
Rewards points are not the same as Microsoft account credit, an Xbox gift card, or a Game Pass entitlement. The available redemption options can change by country, account, promotion, and date.

- Microsoft Store balance: Can have separate restrictions from Rewards points and gift cards.
- Promotional trial or code: May be account-specific, temporary, or limited to new or returning subscribers.
Microsoft’s published Rewards with Xbox information says direct Rewards spending at the Microsoft Store is for single-item purchases and excludes subscriptions. Its Xbox Gift Card terms also refer to eligible Microsoft Store purchases made within 90 days of redemption. Therefore, do not redeem points for a gift card assuming it will definitely cover Game Pass. Check the current reward and its permitted uses first.

What you need before starting
- A Microsoft account in a supported Rewards market.
- The same Microsoft account connected to Xbox and the Xbox app for PC.
- Age 18 or older for Rewards gameplay benefits.
- The Xbox app for PC if you want to use eligible PC gameplay activities.
- A matching account, country, currency, and billing region.
- Possibly an existing Game Pass Premium or Ultimate subscription for certain exclusive quests.
Rewards availability varies by market. Microsoft may also request phone or other identity verification. A PC-only user can still use Bing and any supported Xbox PC activities, but not every console activity or Game Pass quest will appear.
Microsoft’s current Xbox page uses the plan names Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Older guides that refer only to “PC Game Pass” or older quest structures may no longer match your account.
How to begin
- Sign in at Microsoft Rewards with the account used by Xbox.
- Review the available daily searches, quizzes, polls, streaks, shopping activities, and promotions.
- Open the Xbox app for PC and look for the Rewards or Rewards with Xbox area.
- Read each quest’s eligibility text, time requirement, expiration date, and claim instructions.
- Complete only activities explicitly shown as eligible for your account.
- Claim completed quests where required, then check your points balance.
- Wait until the live catalog shows a reward whose restrictions match your intended purchase.
Microsoft changes dashboard and Xbox app labels, so treat these as “look for” instructions rather than permanent menu names.

1. Bing searches
Daily Bing searches are usually the most accessible PC-based activity and do not require buying a game or subscribing to Game Pass. Search limits and point values vary by market, account, level, and current promotion. Use Bing normally; do not spam random searches or automate activity.
2. Rewards dashboard activities
Daily sets, quizzes, polls, streaks, and promotional offers can add points without requiring gameplay. Some require pressing a claim button or opening the offer from the Rewards dashboard. Offers are personalized, so another account may show different activities.

3. Eligible Xbox PC gameplay
The official Rewards with Xbox page says players can earn through eligible play and quests on PC. That does not mean every PC game counts. A quest may require a particular title, a minimum playtime, or completion during a specific window.
Current terms also exclude certain gameplay rewards involving games that require third-party launchers or games played through Battle.net. Do not assume that a Steam, Epic, Battle.net, or other third-party launch automatically qualifies. Check the individual quest’s wording.

Premium and Ultimate members receive exclusive quests, including recurring quest structures and other member activities. These can make earning faster, but they create an important limitation: a paid Game Pass plan may be required to access some of the best earning opportunities.
That is useful for offsetting the cost of a subscription you already have. It is not a guaranteed zero-cost route to obtaining your first subscription.
5. Microsoft Store purchases
Eligible games and add-ons can earn Rewards points, and Premium or Ultimate members may receive higher purchase earning rates. Xbox describes Ultimate as offering up to four times more points in relevant playing and shopping activities, but that is not a universal multiplier for every action.

This is not a free strategy: you must spend money first. Do not buy games solely to generate points unless you already intended to buy them and understand the effective return.
A practical daily routine
- Open the Rewards dashboard and complete the daily set or other no-cost activities.
- Complete qualifying Bing searches within the displayed limits.
- Open the Xbox app for PC and inspect current quests before launching a game.
- Play an eligible title for the stated minimum time or complete the stated objective.
- Return to the Rewards area and claim completed quests.
- Check your balance, streak status, and any expiration notices.
Keep screenshots of quests that appear incomplete or fail to credit. They can help Microsoft Rewards Support investigate a missing transaction.
How to redeem without wasting points
- Open the official Rewards redemption catalog.
- Filter or search for Xbox, Microsoft, or gift-card rewards available in your market.
- Check the points cost and confirm the Microsoft account receiving the reward.
- Read the reward’s restrictions, expiration rules, and permitted purchases.
- Complete any required security or identity verification.
- Save the confirmation email, code, or transaction record.
- Redeem the code only through Microsoft or Xbox’s official redemption flow.
- Before checkout, confirm that the resulting balance is permitted for the Game Pass purchase you want.
Rewards points and redeemed rewards can have different expiration rules. Consult the current Microsoft Services Agreement and the specific reward terms rather than relying on an old guide.
How long does “free” Game Pass take?
There is no reliable universal answer such as “30 days.” Your result depends on daily limits, market, Rewards level, promotions, existing Game Pass eligibility, Bing usage, qualifying purchases, and the live points price of a usable reward.

Days required = points cost of the usable reward ÷ realistic daily points

Use the figures shown in your own dashboard. For example, if a usable reward costs 30,000 points and you realistically earn 500 points per day, the estimate is 60 days. That hypothetical calculation says nothing about whether the reward will still be available or usable for Game Pass when you reach the target.
Microsoft says point values can vary with local market currency, Rewards level, and the number of points redeemed. A Level 2 status is associated with reaching 500 points in a month, but thresholds and benefits may change by market or over time; verify your current status page at Rewards level benefits.

“I completed a quest but received no points.”
- Confirm that the minimum playtime or objective was met.
- Check that the game was eligible and the offer had not expired.
- Verify that Xbox, the Xbox app, and Microsoft Store use the same account.
- Check whether the quest required a separate claim.
- Allow time for delayed tracking before repeating the activity.
- Save screenshots, then contact Microsoft Rewards Support if the credit does not appear.
“My game does not count.”
Eligible games are not universal. A third-party launcher or Battle.net requirement can exclude a game from relevant gameplay rewards. Use the quest’s own eligibility text rather than assuming that any PC version qualifies.
“I cannot see the same offer.”
The offer may be limited by country, age, account status, Game Pass tier, device, promotion period, or personalization. Different dashboards do not necessarily indicate an error.

“Microsoft asks me to verify my identity.”
Verification is a fraud-prevention measure. Do not switch regions with a VPN, create multiple farming accounts, use bots or scripts, buy points, or use unofficial code sites. Those actions can invalidate rewards or put the Microsoft account at risk.
What else can Rewards cover?
Depending on your market, the catalog may include Xbox gift cards, Microsoft Store items, games, add-ons, sweepstakes entries, or other rewards. Inventory, points costs, and restrictions change, so the catalog shown after signing in is authoritative.
For readers who do not want to wait, a direct Game Pass subscription is faster and more predictable but costs money. Buying an individual game can be better if you only want one or two titles. Promotional trials and bundled offers may help temporarily, but they are account-specific and not a dependable permanent strategy.
Bottom line
Microsoft Rewards is best treated as a slow discount or occasional credit source—not a guaranteed Game Pass subscription generator. Bing searches and free dashboard activities offer the lowest-cost path, while Xbox PC and Game Pass quests can add more points when your account qualifies.
