Nexus Mods is a PC modding platform: use it to mod a supported PC game, then play that PCVR game through your Quest. For a game installed and running natively on the headset, you need mods and installation instructions specifically made for its standalone Quest version.
First, identify which version of the game you want to mod
The Quest 2 can display games running on a connected PC, but that does not make a PCVR game and its standalone Quest version interchangeable. A mod’s files and installation method must match the game edition it was made for.

Use Nexus Mods for a PCVR game
- Install the PC edition. Make sure you own or have installed the version of the game that runs on your computer, rather than only its standalone Quest edition.
- Check Vortex support. Look up the game in Vortex and confirm it is supported directly or through an appropriate extension. Support varies by game; Vortex features may differ for unsupported titles. See the Vortex getting-started guide.
- Choose a compatible mod. Read the mod’s description, requirements, installation notes, and compatibility details. Confirm it targets the PC version you have.
- Install and manage the mod on the PC. Use Vortex if the game and mod support it, or follow the mod author’s specified installation method.
- Connect the Quest 2 to the PC and launch the PCVR game. Use a supported wired or wireless connection for your setup. The game and its mods still run on the PC; the headset does not become the mod manager.
A 2022 Nexus Mods forum post describes one user opening a PC desktop through Virtual Desktop, using Vortex, and launching Skyrim VR through SKSEVR. That is an individual example, not a universal setup guarantee; see the Skyrim VR forum discussion.
Use mods for a standalone Quest game
Look for a mod release and instructions that explicitly name the Quest or standalone edition. Follow the game-specific process rather than treating a Nexus download as something that can simply be copied onto the headset. A PCVR mod may use incompatible files or a different structure; renaming or copying it does not establish compatibility.

Example: Blade & Sorcery: Nomad
Nomad is the Quest-native version, distinct from the PCVR Blade & Sorcery release. Nexus Mods’ Nomad modding article distinguishes Vortex support for the PCVR version from the sideloading process for Nomad, and advises using mods made for and tested with Nomad. Check the Blade & Sorcery: Nomad mod section and each mod’s current notes before installing.
For Nomad instructions that use wired transfer, a USB-C data cable compatible with Quest 2 may be needed to connect the headset to a PC. The cable is for that transfer step: it does not install Nexus Mods, turn a PCVR mod into a Quest mod, or serve as a universal requirement for PCVR streaming.

What to check before downloading or buying anything
- Game edition: Is the game running on the PC or installed natively on Quest?
- Mod target: Does the mod page explicitly support that edition and game version?
- Installation method: Does the author specify Vortex, manual PC installation, sideloading, or another game-specific process?
- Requirements and permissions: Are additional tools or files required, and do the mod’s notes permit the intended use?
- Connection equipment: Buy or use a cable only if the particular Quest-native instructions call for wired transfer. For PCVR, choose a connection method that your PC and headset setup supports.
Mod support and installation steps can change, so rely on the current game page and mod-author instructions rather than assuming one method works across every Quest 2 title.
