To use Ryujinx on a PC, download the current Stable build, verify the archive, extract it to a writable folder, provide keys and firmware dumped from hardware you own, add your legally obtained game files, then configure a controller and graphics backend. The current download page lists Stable v1.3.3 from the May 2026 channel and Canary v1.3.295; Stable is the safer choice for beginners because Canary is experimental.
Ryujinx requires your own prod.keys, title.keys where required, firmware, and game content. Do not download these files from third-party “keys” sites or use repacked emulator bundles.

What you need before installing Ryujinx
- A Windows 10 or 11 PC. The current build page lists Windows 10/11 support; older detailed documentation specifies Windows 10 version 1803 (10.0.17134) or newer.
- At least 8 GB of RAM; 16 GB is recommended for demanding games.
- A GPU supporting Vulkan 1.1+, OpenGL 4.5+, or a compatible Metal renderer. Older documentation lists Vulkan 1.2 or newer as the stricter baseline.
- Current graphics drivers.
- Keys, firmware, and game files dumped from hardware and software you own.
Ryujinx is currently distributed for Windows x64, Linux, and macOS. This guide focuses on Windows, where the downloadable package is a ZIP archive. Check the official download page for current builds and platform packages.
1. Download and verify Ryujinx
Download Stable unless you specifically want to test experimental changes. Canary builds can contain regressions and are not the best starting point for troubleshooting.

Download only from the official Ryujinx site. Fake download pages may distribute modified binaries or adware, and generic antivirus detections can occur because unsigned emulator files may be uncommon or have a low reputation score. A warning alone does not prove that a file is malicious, but do not create an antivirus exclusion until you have verified the download.
On Windows, open Command Prompt in the folder containing the archive and run:
certutil -hashfile Ryujinx.zip SHA256Compare the result with the SHA-256 hash published for that exact archive on the download page. If it does not match, delete the file and download it again. Do not run a repacked or cracked bundle.
2. Install Ryujinx on Windows
Ryujinx uses an extracted, portable-style installation rather than a conventional installer.
- Open the downloaded ZIP.
- Extract the contents of its
publishfolder to a location you control, such asC:GamesRyujinx. - Avoid extracting it to the Desktop or the root of a drive. Windows permissions can interfere with files written there.
- Run
Ryujinx.exe. - If Windows displays a security warning for the first launch, use Run anyway only after confirming that you downloaded and verified the official archive.
On first launch, Ryujinx creates its normal data directory at:
%appdata%RyujinxThis directory contains configuration, firmware, save data, shader caches, and other emulator data. If Windows asks for it, install the .NET Desktop Runtime required by the build.
3. Install your keys
Ryujinx needs encryption keys dumped from your own Nintendo hardware. The project documentation refers to prod.keys and title.keys; the exact files required can depend on the content and firmware generation.

The documented manual method is:
- In Ryujinx, choose File > Open Ryujinx Folder.
- Open the
systemfolder. - Copy your legally dumped key files into that folder.
- Restart Ryujinx so it can validate the keys.
The Windows path is:
%appdata%RyujinxsystemSome current builds expose key installation through the Actions menu instead. Use that installer if it is available; menu names can differ between Stable, Canary, and frontend revisions. Do not download keys from websites offering “latest” or “preconfigured” key packs.

4. Install firmware
Firmware must also come from your own hardware. In the documented Windows workflow, open:
Tools > Install Firmware > Install from XCI/ZIPSelect an untrimmed firmware XCI or a firmware ZIP, confirm with Yes, and dismiss the success message with OK. The installed version appears as System Version in the lower-right corner of the main window.
Other current builds may expose firmware installation through a slightly different menu and may accept a ZIP, folder, or XCI. Choose the firmware-installation entry shown by your build rather than assuming every version has identical labels.
The keys must be at least as new as the firmware you are installing. If installation fails with missing-key or generation-mismatch errors, use a compatible key set dumped from your own updated system rather than downloading replacement files.
5. Add your games
Ryujinx scans folders containing supported game files, including NSP, XCI, and NCA formats. It can display title IDs, versions, and play status, but you must supply content you are entitled to use.
- Open Options > Settings.
- Stay on the User Interface tab.
- Enter the absolute path to the folder containing your game files and click Add. Alternatively, leave the field empty, click Add, and select the folder in the file picker.
- Click Save.
Add the folder, not an individual game file. If the library remains empty, confirm that the selected directory actually contains supported files, that keys and firmware are installed, and that the files were not damaged during transfer.
6. Configure a controller
Connect your controller before opening the input settings. Then go to:
Options > Settings > Input- Select the appropriate controller slot.
- Choose the controller from the Input Device dropdown.
- Map the buttons and sticks.
- Click Apply, then OK.
Docked Mode changes which slot you configure. With Docked Mode enabled, configure Player 1. With it disabled, configure Handheld.

The default joystick deadzone is 0.10. If the character or camera moves without touching the stick, increase it to at least 0.20 and test again. If an XInput controller does not appear, an XInput wrapper or translator such as x360ce may be necessary.
Leave Direct Keyboard Access and Direct Mouse Access disabled unless you specifically need Ryujinx to expose those devices as USB-connected Switch peripherals.
7. Choose graphics settings
Open:
Options > Settings > GraphicsUse the following starting points:
- Vulkan: generally recommended on modern NVIDIA and AMD GPUs.
- OpenGL: a fallback for older or problematic hardware.
- Metal: the relevant renderer on macOS, especially Apple Silicon systems.
Set Resolution Scale to native first. On a standard 1080p display, 2× is a reasonable starting point if your GPU has headroom. The available choices include native, 2×, 3×, 4×, and custom scaling.

If a title shows broken textures, flickering, or unexpected rendering, return to native resolution, reduce filtering, and test the other supported renderer.
Ryujinx is pre-optimized for normal use. Leave settings not covered by a specific troubleshooting need at their defaults. Keep normal logging enabled; do not enable debug logging unless support staff asks you to.
Why the first launches may stutter
Shader compilation and translation-cache creation can make the first launches slower or less smooth. That does not necessarily mean the emulator or game is permanently broken.
Shader Cache is enabled by default. If a corrupted cache causes a crash while shaders compile:

- Right-click the game in the library.
- Choose Cache Management > Purge Shader Cache.
- Launch the game again.
You can inspect the cache through Cache Management > Open Shader Cache Directory.

PPTC (Profiled Persistent Translation Cache) is also enabled by default. It does not improve performance immediately: launch the game at least twice and reach the title screen or beyond. Improvements may become available on the third launch. To disable it, open Options > Settings > CPU and clear PPTC (Profiled Persistent Translation Cache).
Install game updates and DLC
Ryujinx can automatically discover updates and DLC through Autoadd DLC/Game Updates in Options > Settings. If it finds multiple updates, it selects the highest version.
For a manual title update:
- Right-click the game.
- Choose Manage Title Updates.
- Click Add and select the update file.
- Click Open, select the version, then click Save.
For DLC:
- Right-click the game.
- Choose Manage DLC.
- Click Add, select the DLC, and click Open.
- Select the DLC and click Save.
DLC added through the manager is enabled automatically. You do not need to copy every update or DLC file into arbitrary emulator folders.

Mods
For an unzipped mod folder, use Right-click game > Manage Mods > Add, select the folder, and click Save. Mods added through the manager are enabled by default.
For manual content mods, use:
%appdata%Ryujinxmodscontents<game ID>You can open the correct location with Right-click game > Open Mods Directory. Atmosphère-format mods use:
%appdata%Ryujinxsdcardatmospherecontents<game ID>The corresponding shortcut is Open Atmosphere Mods Directory.
Cheats
Cheat files are specific to both the game and its version. The documented structure is:

Manage profiles and save data
Open Options > Manage User Profiles to create or manage profiles. Save data is tied to the selected profile, so deleting a profile also deletes the saves associated with it.
The default RyuPlayer profile cannot be deleted because it contains the original save data for games. You can rename it and change its image.
Before changing profiles, moving data, or experimenting with mods, back up your Ryujinx data directory at %appdata%Ryujinx.
Portable mode and custom data locations
To keep keys, firmware, saves, shader caches, and configuration beside the executable, create a folder named exactly:
portablePlace it in the same directory as Ryujinx.exe, then launch Ryujinx again.
Portable mode does not automatically migrate existing data. Copy your keys, firmware, saves, and caches from %appdata%Ryujinx into the new portable data directory if you need them there.
