Roblox Studio—the official script-editing environment—runs on Windows and Mac, not smartphones. To make scripts for an experience that people play on phones, create them in Studio on a computer, then design and test the experience’s mobile controls there.
Can you write Roblox scripts on a phone?
No. Roblox’s education FAQ says Studio cannot run on mobile devices such as smartphones, and Roblox lists Studio for Windows and Mac. The Roblox mobile app is for playing experiences; it is not Studio or a supported Luau editor. A keyboard, stylus, or other phone accessory does not change that.
Roblox scripts are written in Luau, Roblox’s scripting language. Roblox describes Studio’s Script Editor as the primary tool for scripting on the platform. See the Roblox education FAQ, Studio setup requirements, and Script Editor documentation.
How to create and test a script in Roblox Studio
- Install Studio on a computer. Use a Windows or Mac computer that meets Roblox Studio’s requirements. Download Studio, install it, and sign in with your Roblox account. Roblox describes Studio as free. Follow the official setup instructions.
- Open or create an experience. In Studio, open a project or start a new experience.
- Add a Script. In Explorer, select an appropriate service or object and insert a Script. Roblox’s beginner scripting tutorial uses
ServerScriptServiceas a common location for a server script. The right location depends on what the code should do; server Scripts, client LocalScripts, and reusable ModuleScripts have different roles. - Write Luau in the Script Editor. Open the script, enter your code, and save the experience. Use Roblox’s beginner scripting tutorial if you need a first guided example.
- Playtest and check Output. Run the experience from Studio and use the Output window to view printed messages and errors. If a script does not behave as expected, check that it is the right script type and is placed where it can run.
- Test the phone experience. If players will use phones, check the interface and controls in Studio as well as the game logic. Roblox documents mobile inputs including virtual buttons, touch gestures, and device orientation in its mobile input documentation.
What Roblox Build on mobile can do
Roblox Build is a separate, prompt-driven creation feature rolling out in the Roblox app. Where available, eligible users can open the Build tab, describe a game, let Build generate it, then playtest and refine it with prompts. Roblox says availability varies by country and that age and age-check conditions apply; consult its Build support information for current eligibility and access details.

Build is not documented as a way to insert arbitrary Luau code or edit scripts. It is an option for prompt-based game generation, not a mobile version of Studio.

Making scripts work for players on phones
Scripts for a phone-playable experience are still created in Studio on a Windows or Mac computer. Mobile support is a separate design and testing task: make sure players can reach and use the experience’s controls with touch, and check that layouts work on the devices and orientations you intend to support.
