A Destructoid guide reports that a Camera carried in the backpack is lost when the Raider dies. Embark’s official update notes do not document a Camera-specific death rule, so treat that loss behavior as a reported risk rather than an official guarantee. The safest practical routine is to carry only the Camera needed for the objective, complete the photograph promptly, and leave successfully.
What the Camera is in ARC Raiders
The Camera is an in-game Quick Use gadget introduced in the Frozen Trail 2.0 update published by Embark on October 8, 2026. It is not real-world camera equipment and does not require a separate peripheral. The item reference classifies the Basic Camera as an Uncommon Gadget used to take pictures and selfies.

Frozen Trail 2.0 added both Basic and Advanced Cameras. The controls described in the available hands-on guide apply to the Basic Camera, which is the model covered by the recipe and acquisition routes below. The update does not publish a separate control scheme or feature list for the Advanced Camera, so do not assume that every detail of this Basic Camera procedure applies to it.
The Camera matters because several activities now ask you to photograph a target. The Outpost-unlock research starts with a photograph of a farmland house. The update also changes older quests so that they require taking photos with the new Camera, including The League, Reduced to Rubble, Life of a Pharmacist, Battening Down, and Groundbreaking.

Before entering a raid: get a Basic Camera
You have four documented ways to obtain a Basic Camera: scavenge one, craft one, buy one from Shani, or receive one through a quest. The item reference lists all four routes, while Embark confirms that Shani’s offers include Cameras and that the Outpost research asks you to bring one.
| Route | What you need | What is established | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scavenging | A successful find during a run | The Basic Camera can be found as loot. | The sources do not specify a location, spawn rate, or guaranteed container. |
| Crafting | Workbench 1, 8 Plastic Parts, and 1 Wire | The recipe yields one Basic Camera. | Material availability depends on what you have collected; no faster or cheaper recipe is documented. |
| Buying from Shani | Whatever currency and inventory the trader currently requires | Embark says Shani’s offers include Cameras. | The October 8 update does not state the current price or stock quantity. Check the live trader screen. |
| Quest reward | Progress in Sizing Things Up or Taking Stock | The item reference lists both quests as Camera sources. | The sources do not state the exact step at which the reward is granted. |
Crafting the Camera
- Reach a Workbench at level 1 or higher.
- Confirm that your materials include 8 Plastic Parts and 1 Wire.
- Select the Basic Camera recipe and craft one.
- Move the finished Camera into your backpack before preparing the raid.
The item reference also lists recycling one Basic Camera for 5 Plastic Parts. Recycling is therefore a way to recover part of the material value, not a way to preserve the item for a future photo. Do it only when you no longer need that Camera.
Buying from Shani
Open Shani’s current offers and look for a Camera. Prices and quantities are not stable facts in the available update notes, so use the value shown in your own game rather than relying on an old guide or a remembered price. If the item is absent, the documented evidence does not establish whether that means a rotation, a stock limit, a progression requirement, or a temporary change; try another acquisition route instead of treating an unlisted offer as a bug.
Quest-provided Cameras
Sizing Things Up and Taking Stock are listed as quest routes for obtaining a Basic Camera. If one of those quests supplies the item, check that the reward has actually entered your inventory before loading into a run. A quest objective that asks you to bring a Camera is a requirement to have the gadget available; it is not evidence that the game will automatically equip it for you.

How to equip and use the Camera
The following sequence follows the controls reported by the October 8 Destructoid guide. Key bindings can vary if you have changed them, so use the on-screen prompt if your installation shows a different input.
- Put the Camera in the backpack. A Camera sitting elsewhere in your inventory or not carried into the raid cannot be selected as the Quick Use gadget for that run.
- Assign it to a Quick Use slot. Open your loadout or inventory before deployment and place the Basic Camera in an available Quick Use slot. This is the step that makes the item selectable during the raid.
- Equip it with Q. With the Camera assigned, press Q to equip it. If Q does not work, check your current key binding and confirm that the slot contains the Camera rather than another gadget.
- Aim with the right mouse button. Press RMB to bring up the Camera’s aiming view. Keep the intended subject inside the frame.
- Adjust the zoom. Use the zoom control displayed by the game while aiming. Zoom is useful when the objective target is at a distance, but the available guide does not specify a fixed zoom level or a required framing percentage.
- Take the photo. Use the capture command shown on your screen. The guide identifies the action but does not publish a universal keyboard key for capture, so follow your current prompt or customized binding rather than guessing.
- Confirm the objective state. Check the quest or activity UI for the game’s acknowledgement before moving on. Aiming the Camera or merely carrying it is not the same as completing the requested photograph.
- Extract. Once the picture is accepted, leave through a successful extraction if you want to retain the carried gadget. The reported death-loss behavior means that finishing the photo alone is not a safe stopping point.
Framing the target
Photo objectives can identify a place or structure rather than a character. For the Outpost research, the official update identifies a farmland house as the first subject. Move until the relevant house is visible, aim through the Camera, and use zoom only as needed to make the subject recognizable. The sources do not define a particular distance, angle, or composition requirement, so rely on the objective indicator or capture confirmation rather than trying to reproduce an unverified screenshot.
How to avoid losing the Camera
A Destructoid guide reports that a Camera in the backpack is lost if the Raider dies. This is the key warning behind the “without losing it” part of the procedure. Embark’s Frozen Trail 2.0 notes confirm the item and its quest uses but do not state a Camera-specific death-loss exception. Accordingly, the loss rule should be presented as a guide-reported behavior, not as a guarantee that applies in every edition, mode, or future patch.
Use a low-risk carry plan
- Carry only what the objective needs. Bring one Camera for one photo objective unless your current quest explicitly requires more. This limits the amount exposed to the reported death-loss risk.
- Do not make an unnecessary detour after the photo. Once the game acknowledges the picture, prioritize a safe route to extraction instead of adding unrelated loot runs.
- Do not deploy early if the run is already unsafe. If you expect heavy opposition, poor health, or an unfavorable route to the target, wait for a better opportunity. This is practical risk management based on the reported loss behavior and ARC Raiders’ extraction context, not a separately tested Camera rule.
- Verify the Camera before deployment. Check the backpack and Quick Use assignment in the loadout screen. Discovering that the item was left behind after entering the raid costs the run and may force another acquisition.
- Extract after completion. The objective and the item are separate concerns: the photograph can be accepted while the carried Camera remains at risk until the Raider exits successfully.
What happens if you die?
Under the guide’s reported behavior, a Camera carried in the backpack is lost when the Raider dies. The available official notes do not explain whether a Camera placed in a particular storage state, obtained from a quest, or used by a different Camera tier is handled differently. Do not infer a special exemption from the fact that the Camera is a quest item or an Uncommon Gadget. If retaining it matters, plan as though a death can remove the carried copy and obtain another through crafting, scavenging, Shani, or the listed quest routes.

Camera objectives in Frozen Trail 2.0
Outpost research
Embark’s update says the Outpost-unlock research begins with a photo of a farmland house. Accept the research, bring a Camera into the run, equip it through Quick Use, photograph the named subject, and then extract. The update establishes the subject and the Camera requirement, but it does not publish a current Shani price, a spawn location, a required zoom value, or a special capture key.
Updated quest objectives
The update says that several older quests now require photos with the new Camera: The League, Reduced to Rubble, Life of a Pharmacist, Battening Down, and Groundbreaking. Each quest may identify a different subject. Read the active objective in the quest UI before deployment; the general Camera controls remain the same, but the correct target is quest-specific.
Do not assume that photographing one location completes every active photo quest. The update only establishes that these quests were changed to require Camera photographs; it does not say that objectives share progress or accept a generic picture.

| Your situation | Most direct documented option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You have 8 Plastic Parts, 1 Wire, and a level-1 Workbench | Craft | The recipe is explicit and produces one Basic Camera immediately. |
| You are already looting and find a Camera | Scavenge and extract | No additional crafting materials or trader stock are needed. |
| Shani currently lists a Camera | Buy from Shani | It avoids spending the listed crafting materials, but the live price and quantity must be checked in game. |
| A listed quest is supplying your next Camera | Complete the relevant reward step | Sizing Things Up and Taking Stock are documented quest routes. |
There is no evidence that one route produces a stronger Camera for the documented photo objectives. The Basic Camera is the model for which the recipe and control guide are specified. The official update mentions an Advanced Camera but does not provide enough information here to compare range, durability, zoom, quest eligibility, or death behavior.

The Camera is in my inventory but cannot be selected
Confirm that it is in the backpack and assigned to a Quick Use slot. Merely owning the item is not enough for the reported Q-to-equip flow. If the slot contains another gadget, replace it with the Basic Camera before deployment.
Q does nothing
Check your key bindings and ensure the Camera is the currently assigned Quick Use item. The published control guide uses Q, but a customized layout can change that input. Reassign the Camera and test the slot in a safe preparation area before starting the objective run.

I can aim but the picture is not accepted
Use RMB to aim, adjust the zoom, and make sure the named quest subject is actually in frame. A farmland house is the documented first Outpost-research subject; other quests may require different locations. The available sources do not specify a universal distance or capture key, so follow the on-screen capture prompt and the objective text.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.

The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
The Camera disappeared after a death
This matches the death-loss behavior reported by the Destructoid guide for a Camera carried in the backpack. The official update does not provide a contrary Camera-specific rule. Recover by crafting another with 8 Plastic Parts and 1 Wire at Workbench 1, scavenging, checking Shani’s current offers, or using the documented Sizing Things Up or Taking Stock quest route.
Shani does not have one
The official update confirms that Cameras are among Shani’s offers but does not guarantee a permanent stock count. Check the current trader inventory and use crafting, scavenging, or a quest reward if the item is unavailable in your present offer.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Confusing ownership with readiness: a Camera in storage is not assigned to Quick Use and cannot be equipped during the run.
- Entering with the wrong gadget: press Q only after verifying that the selected slot contains the Basic Camera.
- Stopping after the shutter: a completed photograph does not itself secure the carried item; extract after the objective.
- Assuming official confirmation of the loss rule: the death-loss warning comes from the Destructoid guide, while Embark’s notes do not specify that behavior.
- Relying on a fixed trader price: Shani’s current Camera price and quantity are not stated in the October 8 update.
- Using a remembered target: quest photographs are objective-specific. Read the active quest instead of assuming every mission uses the farmland house.
- Recycling the only Camera: the item reference says recycling returns 5 Plastic Parts, but recycling removes that Camera from your usable inventory.
Quick pre-raid and post-photo checklist
Before deployment
- Obtain a Basic Camera by scavenging, crafting, buying from Shani, or completing the applicable quest route.
- If crafting, confirm Workbench 1, 8 Plastic Parts, and 1 Wire.
- Place the Camera in the backpack.
- Assign it to a Quick Use slot.
- Read the active objective and identify the required subject.
At the objective
- Press Q to equip the Camera.
- Press RMB to aim.
- Adjust zoom as needed.
- Frame the named subject.
- Use the displayed capture command.
- Wait for the objective UI to acknowledge the photograph.
After the objective
- Stop taking unnecessary risks or detours.
- Reach an extraction point.
- Complete the extraction successfully.
- Check your inventory afterward to confirm the Camera and other carried gear were retained.
What is confirmed, and what remains uncertain
The strongest confirmed facts are the Camera’s introduction in Frozen Trail 2.0, Shani’s Camera offers, the farmland-house Outpost objective, the list of updated photo quests, and the Basic Camera recipe and recycling return in the item reference. The Q equip control, RMB aim control, zoom adjustment, and reported death loss come from the October 8 Destructoid guide.
