Get Delta through the official route for your region
Start at Delta’s official site and follow its current Get Delta guide rather than downloading an IPA from an unofficial mirror. The guide currently directs users in EU countries to AltStore PAL and users outside the EU to the App Store. AltStore’s own site lists PAL availability in the EU, Japan, and Brazil, so the two descriptions do not establish a universal territory rule. Check the live listing and official instructions for your country before proceeding.
AltStore describes itself as “an app store designed for sideloading.” Its PAL and Classic options are distinct; the official AltStore site says Classic requires AltServer. Use the current AltStore site and its region-specific instructions to determine which option is available to you. Delta’s overview guide does not provide a complete installation walkthrough for every route, so follow the linked installation steps for the option presented rather than relying on outdated advice that Delta cannot be obtained from the App Store.
Import game files you have the right to use
Delta is the emulator; it does not distribute games. You must import compatible game files separately. Delta’s user guide explains importing and accepted formats. Having a ROM file does not by itself establish that you have the legal right to use it, so use files you are entitled to use under the rules that apply where you live. This guide does not point to unauthorized game downloads.

If a game will not open or freezes
Delta’s troubleshooting guidance suggests checking whether the game file is altered or corrupted. Some larger ROM hacks may require additional software. These are possible causes and workarounds, not a guarantee that every game file or hack will run.
Choose touch controls or a physical controller
Delta supports on-screen controls and built-in or imported controller skins. Its documentation also lists PS4, PS5, Xbox One S, Xbox Series X, and MFi controllers, plus Bluetooth or wired keyboards. Exact compatibility can vary by controller and device, so consult Delta’s controller documentation and confirm your hardware before buying. A physical controller is optional, not a requirement.

Mappings can be customized per system and controller. If you use a physical controller, assign convenient actions such as quick save and quick load to buttons you can reach without interrupting play. Delta documents the mapping feature, but the exact menu labels and available controls can change between versions; use its current guide for the steps.
Use save states deliberately
Delta documents save states accessible from the pause menu, automatic backup states, and an option to lock a state against accidental overwrite. A practical routine is to save before a difficult or unfamiliar section, then lock a milestone state you want to preserve. Save states are separate from the game’s ordinary save system; use both when a game supports in-game saves.

- Lock: Protect a chosen state from accidental replacement.
- Automatic backup: Delta documents automatic backup states, providing another recovery option within the app.
- Quick save/load: Map these actions to a supported external controller when you want faster access.
Delta also documents fast-forward from the pause menu or a mapped external-controller button. Treat it as a convenience for moving through parts of a game you do not need to play at normal pace; availability and behavior can depend on the game and current app version.

Delta Sync can sync games, game saves, save states, cheats, skins, and controller mappings. The official documentation lists Google Drive and Dropbox as supported providers and says synced items have version histories that can be restored to earlier versions. See Delta’s Sync instructions for setup details. Sync is useful for carrying progress and settings between devices, but it should not be treated as a substitute for an independent backup.

Check the app version and current documentation
Delta’s features and distribution options may change. The App Store version history retrieved for this guide listed Delta 1.7.3s dated November 11, 2025, including updates and fixes related to iOS 26 keyboard support and RetroAchievements error handling. Verify the live App Store listing before relying on that version detail; it may have changed since that date.
