The clearest documented steps are for version 1.43.a, not the current version 2.4.c listed in the update feed as of September 2026. Treat the route below as a historical guide: current behavior and successful extraction are not confirmed.
What the Scout Cannon glitch does
The Scout Cannon launches scouts as part of normal gameplay. The glitch exploits that launch to travel unusually far and potentially cross biome boundaries or skip sections of the climb. Reaching the Peak indicator is not the same as completing the extraction sequence.
How the glitch was reported to work in version 1.43.a
The following is a historical procedure from a Steam community guide posted November 9, 2025, and labeled “Works as of 1.43.a.” The guide is now removed from the community and marked incompatible with PEAK on its current page; these steps are not a verified method for version 2.4.c.
- Host a game and check the starting crates for a Scout Cannon.
- Take a flare and a backpack.
- At the guide’s specified landmark on the Shore, place the cannon and put the backpack inside it.
- Light the cannon’s fuse, then enter the cannon.
- During flight, repeatedly use the Play Dead emote until the “PEAK” indicator appears.
- When the indicator appears, light the flare. The guide describes this as the next step, but does not establish that it reliably completes extraction in current builds.
The guide describes a particular Shore landmark but does not provide enough detail here to identify it more precisely. Do not substitute a placement or emote-timing variation from a different guide and assume the resulting route is equivalent.

Why older instructions may not match
Earlier instructions differ. GameSpot’s August 26, 2025 guide describes placing the cannon near a broken wing, loading the backpack, lighting the fuse, jumping in, and spamming Play Dead. It also says attempts may hit barriers and fail. Those directions are for an earlier patch period, so they should not be merged with the 1.43.a steps into a single universal recipe.

Was the Scout Cannon glitch patched?
There is no single answer that applies across all versions. Patch 1.25.a raised fog walls to counter cannon launches over them, while the PEAK Wiki’s history says the glitch was re-allowed in 1.43.a when a backpack was used. Neither historical record confirms its status in 2.4.c.

Recent player comments describe inconsistent outcomes, including reaching the Peak without the helicopter appearing. These are anecdotal reports: they do not establish whether a particular patch caused the result or provide a dependable fix. In particular, reaching the Peak indicator should not be treated as proof that extraction has completed.
