In the original Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the three new transformation power-ups are Elephant Fruit, Bubble Flower, and Drill Mushroom. Elephant form attacks and interacts with objects, Bubble Flower catches enemies and creates brief platforms, and Drill Mushroom lets you burrow through floors and ceilings. Here’s what each one does and where to find its exact controls.
What each new power-up does
| Power-up | Main use | What it lets you do |
|---|---|---|
| Elephant Fruit | Attacks and object interactions | Use the trunk to hit enemies, break blocks, and work with water in certain situations. |
| Bubble Flower | Combat and short-reach traversal | Catch enemies in bubbles and use bubbles as brief platforms. |
| Drill Mushroom | Movement and hazard handling | Burrow through ground or ceilings, avoid danger, and deal with armored or spiked enemies. |
Nintendo’s official descriptions cover these abilities but do not give comparative damage, duration, or performance figures, so there is no evidence-based ranking of the three. Nintendo’s game page and Nintendo’s UK game page describe the transformations.

How do you use the Elephant Fruit?
Elephant Fruit transforms your character into Elephant form. Swing the trunk to attack enemies within reach and smash through blocks. The trunk can also take in and spray water, which can interact with particular course objects.
Try water on wilted buds and hot objects
Nintendo specifically suggests spraying trunk-held water on wilted flower buds or hot objects. Treat this as a contextual interaction: the official guidance does not say that water affects every object in a course. Nintendo’s UK game page describes the trunk’s attacks, block-breaking, and water abilities, while Nintendo Support offers the practical water tip.

What does the Bubble Flower do?
Bubble Flower lets you shoot bubbles ahead. A bubble can catch an enemy, making the power useful for attacking, and bubbles can briefly act as platforms to help you reach a spot beyond a normal jump. Because the platforms are temporary, use them as short-lived stepping points rather than something to stand on indefinitely. Nintendo’s official game page describes both uses.
How do you use the Drill Mushroom?
Drill Mushroom lets you burrow through the ground and into ceilings. Look for a route above or below the usual path, or use the form to avoid a hazard. Nintendo also notes that the drill can be used against armored and spiked enemies. The official descriptions do not specify damage values or how long any effect lasts. Nintendo’s game page explains the form’s uses.
Where can you see the exact controls?
Button mappings can depend on control options, so use the in-game guide rather than relying on a universal button list. Nintendo Support gives this route:
- Press + to open the Main Menu.
- Select Control Guide.
- Open the Action Guide to see how to perform available actions.
Some actions do not appear in the guide until you have encountered them in the game. Nintendo Support’s control-guide instructions explain the menu path and this limitation.

Are Wonder Flowers power-ups?
No. Wonder Flowers trigger special events that change a course’s environment or how it plays; they are separate from Elephant Fruit, Bubble Flower, and Drill Mushroom, which transform your character. Nintendo’s game page describes Wonder Flowers as course-changing events.
Does this guide cover every edition?
This list covers the three new transformations described for the original Super Mario Bros. Wonder. It is not an inventory of every edition’s new content; the available official descriptions here do not establish the complete power-up lineup for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Can amiibo give you a power-up?
Nintendo Support says compatible Mario series amiibo can be scanned during a course to receive a power-up. This is optional; an amiibo is not required to use Elephant, Bubble, or Drill forms. Nintendo Support’s amiibo guidance covers this feature.
