Use vMix’s PlayList or List input to play videos in sequence and loop the program sent to YouTube. MultiCorder is separate: it records selected sources into individual files; it does not build or loop the playlist. You can use it alongside a playlist when you also need isolated recordings, subject to its edition and Instant Replay limitations.
Choose PlayList or List for playback
| Option | Best for | How it handles media |
|---|---|---|
| PlayList | A modest set of vMix inputs where each item needs its own timing or transition. | Sequences inputs, supports per-item start position, duration, transition and transition time, and can loop to the beginning. vMix PlayList Help 28 |
| List | A large or changing collection of media files treated as one input. | Supports video and audio files and M3U files, can advance automatically, loop, and optionally shuffle. vMix says it avoids loading every video at once. vMix List Help 28 |
Both are basic playback automation: they can keep material playing back-to-back, but they are not a full time-of-day broadcast scheduler. vMix’s scheduling article, last updated January 17, 2025, says the software does not provide time-of-day scheduling for 24/7 television programming and describes PlayList and List as options when content does not need to start at fixed clock times. vMix: Does vMix support scheduling?
Build and loop a vMix PlayList
- Add your media as vMix inputs. Use PlayList when you want to sequence multiple inputs and control the treatment of each item. Keep source files at locations vMix can access when you reopen the preset.
- Open PlayList. Click the PlayList button at the lower left of the vMix interface.
- Add inputs. In the PlayList window, select an entry under Available Inputs and click the right-arrow control to add it to the playlist.
- Set each item. Double-click a playlist item to configure its start position, duration, transition effect and transition time. Choose a cut or another available transition deliberately. Set duration to 0 when the input’s own duration should determine when vMix moves on; vMix documents zero as using the input duration. Specify a duration when you need a fixed playback time.
- Enable Loop and start playback. Turn on the PlayList loop option so it restarts at the beginning after the final entry, then start it using the PlayList control.
- Save the preset. PlayLists are linked to the active preset. Save that preset and reopen the matching one when restoring the setup.
Looping only controls playback order. It does not restart a failed computer, repair an internet connection or guarantee that YouTube remains live.
Use a List input for a larger library
- Add a List input and populate it with video or audio files, or use an M3U file where appropriate.
- Check Auto Next so playback advances to the next item.
- Turn on Loop to return to the beginning after the last item. Enable randomization only if shuffled playback is wanted.
- Test the order and transitions in the program output. A List can also be placed in a standard PlayList if you need a broader sequence that combines it with other inputs.
The List approach is useful when loading a large collection as separate inputs would be cumbersome; vMix says List does not require all videos to be loaded simultaneously. See the List input documentation and vMix’s scheduling guidance.

Send the vMix program to YouTube
Use vMix as the encoder and output source, and configure the YouTube live stream with the stream key and encoder settings appropriate to your channel and connection. YouTube’s account eligibility and setup steps can change, so follow the current screens in YouTube Studio rather than relying on an old UI walkthrough.
- Check eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-stream restriction within the past 90 days. Review the current YouTube live-stream setup requirements.
- Choose output settings. Match resolution and frame rate to the source material and your available upload capacity. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings recommendations for the applicable codec and stream format.
- Set bitrate and keyframes. For H.264, YouTube’s current guidance recommends 14 Mbps at 1080p30 and 17 Mbps at 1080p60; its listed minimums are respectively 5 Mbps and 6 Mbps. These are YouTube configuration recommendations, not guarantees of stream quality. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds, constant bitrate (CBR), and RTMPS as the recommended secure protocol.
- Enter the stream key carefully. Treat it as a credential: do not show it on screen or share it. Use the key associated with the intended YouTube stream, and consult the current YouTube and vMix controls for where to enter it; exact UI labels vary by software version.
- Test before relying on the loop. YouTube recommends running a speed test to check upload bitrate. Send a private or unlisted test if appropriate, and check representative motion and audio rather than a static frame alone.
- Monitor the live stream. Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and the vMix output during the broadcast. A looping playlist does not itself detect or recover from every encoder, power, network or platform failure.
Where MultiCorder fits
Use MultiCorder only when you also need separate recordings of sources—for example, isolated camera or audio feeds for later editing. It records raw video/audio from selected capture sources into separate files in addition to the main vMix recording. Those raw recordings do not include normal program effects or color correction; the Output 1–4 options are the exception and capture those outputs as configured. MultiCorder does not create the YouTube playlist or control its loop.

Set up separate recordings
- Open the MultiCorder settings.
- Select the sources to record, then choose a supported recording format and destination folder suited to your editing and resilience needs.
- Start MultiCorder and check that the chosen files are being written to the intended storage while the main program continues.
MultiCorder’s storage workload can be substantial when several sources record at once. vMix’s stated minimum requirements include an SSD, an Intel Core i7 Quad Core or higher, and a high-end graphics card with at least 1 GB of onboard memory. Treat these as the guide’s listed minimums, not a guarantee that a particular computer will handle every workload. vMix warns that storage unable to keep up with simultaneous camera recordings may cause dropped frames and recommends fast storage and a fault-tolerant recording format. It does not establish a universal drive speed or capacity threshold: actual needs depend on source count, resolution, codecs, format and system configuration.

Preflight and troubleshooting
- Playlist stops at the end instead of restarting: check that Loop is enabled on the PlayList or List being used, and test past the final item.
- The next clip starts at an unexpected time: double-click the PlayList item and inspect its start position and duration. A duration of zero uses the input’s duration.
- Files are missing after reopening the setup: confirm the media paths remain available to vMix and reopen the preset that contains the PlayList.
- Large collection uses too many resources: consider a List input rather than loading every file as an individual input; vMix says List avoids loading all videos simultaneously.
- YouTube does not accept the stream: confirm channel verification and live-stream eligibility, recheck the stream key and encoder settings, then consult current YouTube Studio diagnostics.
- Stream health is poor or drops: test actual upload capacity, lower output demands if the connection cannot sustain the selected settings, and monitor YouTube stream health. Do not assume that playlist looping reconnects an encoder or network failure.
- MultiCorder recordings drop frames: check available storage throughput and the number and format of simultaneous recordings. vMix warns that a drive that cannot keep up can cause dropped frames; no single speed threshold is specified.
- MultiCorder is unavailable: check that the vMix edition is 4K, Pro or Max, and that Instant Replay is not running at the same time.
