To view achievements while playing on Steam Deck, press the Steam button, then open Achievements in the in-game overlay. You can also check a game’s details page in the Steam client when you’re not playing. The overlay page was added in SteamOS 3.3, according to Valve’s August 2, 2022 update notes.
View achievements from the in-game overlay
- Start the Steam game whose achievements you want to check.
- While the game is running, press the Steam button.
- Select Achievements in the overlay to browse unlocked and remaining achievements.
Valve’s SteamOS 3.3 update note describes this entry point as: “Added Achievements page to overlay (while in-game press Steam button).” Menu wording and placement can change as the Steam client is updated.
Check achievements outside a game
Open the game’s details page in the Steam client and look for its Achievements entry or popup. Valve’s June 19, 2023 Steam client update notes document an Achievements popup accessible from a game details page. Its exact placement and wording may vary between client layouts.
Choose the route that fits

If the overlay will not open
Check whether the Steam Overlay is enabled. Steam Support’s Steam Community Overlay FAQ identifies the setting under General as Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game. This setting is worth checking, but it is not a guarantee that every overlay problem has the same cause.

Hidden achievements and game support
Some achievements are hidden. Valve’s June 21, 2023 Steam Deck client update notes warn that showing a hidden achievement reveals a spoiler, so use that option only if you are comfortable seeing story or gameplay details.
Achievement availability depends on the game: not every Steam game supports Steam achievements. If a game has no achievements entry or list, that alone does not establish an issue with your Deck.
