You do not need an entrance reservation or timed-entry slot to visit Grand Teton National Park. You do need to plan for reservable lodging and campsites, seasonal road closures, and changing construction delays. The park is open year-round, but access to particular roads and facilities depends on the season and current conditions.
Do I need a reservation to enter Grand Teton National Park?
No. The National Park Service says Grand Teton does not require entrance reservations or timed entry. That applies to entering the park; it does not mean every service is available without advance booking. NPS permits and reservations
Lodging, campgrounds and activity permits
Park lodging and campgrounds are reservable, and rooms and campsites may fill months ahead. Book these separately from your park visit. Some activities also require permits, including overnight backpacking, boating and watercraft use, weddings, and certain special uses. Boat users should also check Wyoming aquatic invasive species requirements. NPS permits and reservations
Is Grand Teton open in winter?
Yes. Grand Teton is open 24 hours year-round, but winter access is not the same as summer access. May through September is the park’s most popular period, when most roads and facilities are open. From November through April, some roads, all campgrounds, and most visitor facilities close or operate on reduced schedules. Individual facility dates vary and can change. Check the NPS operating hours and seasons page for the facilities you plan to use.

Moose-Wilson Road and other closures
Moose-Wilson Road closes to vehicles on November 1 and typically remains closed until mid-May, depending on conditions. Other roads may close or have restrictions as conditions require, so these dates are not a complete forecast of access for a particular trip. Consult the NPS seasonal road information and current alerts before setting out.

How to check current roads and construction
Road work and delays can change by date. For example, the NPS conditions page dated September 30, 2026, listed anticipated October impacts including a 20-minute delay on US Highway 26/89/191 near Moran Junction, a closure of Death Canyon Road and Trailhead, a closure of Moose-Wilson Road between Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve and Moose, and a 20-minute delay at the Teton Park Road roundabout near Moose, in addition to possible entrance-station waits. These were dated conditions, not standing closures or reliable predictions for other dates. NPS current conditions
The NPS road-status map may lag behind actual conditions and may not show short-term delays or closures. Check park alerts and conditions, construction updates, and Wyoming traveler information close to departure. A park map helps with orientation, but it does not replace current road alerts. Which entrance and route should I plan for?
Grand Teton covers nearly 310,000 acres and has four road entrances. Driving between entrances can take hours, so check the status of the specific entrance and route you intend to use rather than assuming the whole park is equally accessible. The NPS provides directions and transportation information and park maps.
The NPS estimates that the outer highway route from the park’s southern boundary toward Yellowstone takes a little more than an hour without stops; the Teton Park Road route takes slightly longer. Treat that as a rough route-planning estimate, not a guaranteed travel time. Construction, weather, wildlife, and stops can change the drive. NPS frequently asked questions
Rank #4
What should I expect when driving in winter?
Outer highways are plowed and open for winter travel, but park roads may be snow-covered or icy. NPS advises drivers to use winter or all-season tires, carry chains when driving over mountain passes, bring an emergency winter safety kit, and drive slowly and carefully around wildlife. Check road and weather conditions for your route before leaving. NPS seasonal road information
