You can watch Crunchyroll on a PS5 by installing the official app, then signing in with the QR code shown on the console. If QR sign-in is unavailable or inconvenient, use Crunchyroll’s browser-based Activate Device option and enter the code displayed by the PS5. A free Crunchyroll membership provides access to a selection of episodes; paid access and cancellation are controlled by whichever service billed you.
What you need before starting
- A PS5 with access to the PlayStation Store or the console’s Media Home.
- Your Crunchyroll login details, or the Crunchyroll mobile app on a phone that can scan a QR code.
- If you plan to subscribe through PlayStation, a PlayStation Wallet payment method and a PlayStation account.
The exact menu wording and subscription choices can change as Sony or Crunchyroll updates their software. The steps below follow Crunchyroll’s current PlayStation support instructions and its QR sign-in documentation.

Install Crunchyroll on your PS5
Crunchyroll documents two installation routes. Use whichever is easiest to find on your console.

Route 1: PlayStation Store search
- From the PS5 home screen, open PlayStation Store.
- Select Search.
- Choose the Media category.
- Search for Crunchyroll.
- Select the official Crunchyroll app and choose Download.
When the download finishes, launch the app from the home screen or from your installed apps.

Route 2: Media Home and All Apps
- From the PS5 home screen, open Media Home.
- Select All Apps.
- Find Crunchyroll in the app list.
- Choose the app and select Download.
If the app does not appear in the list, return to the PlayStation Store search route. Store catalogs and regional availability can differ, so the search result is the more direct check that the app is offered for your console.
Check for an app update
To check manually from inside Crunchyroll, open the app, press the PS5 controller’s Options button, and choose Check for Updates. Keeping the app current is particularly important when QR sign-in is not behaving as expected, because Crunchyroll lists QR support for PS5 app version 02.001.004.

QR sign-in is the quickest documented way to connect your existing account.

- On the sign-in screen, look for the displayed QR code. Crunchyroll’s guide describes this as: “A QR Code will appear on the Sign-In screen.”
- Scan the code with your phone.
- If the Crunchyroll app is installed on the phone, follow its sign-in confirmation prompts.
- If the phone does not have the Crunchyroll app, scanning opens a web page where you log in and activate the console.
After the activation succeeds, the PS5 app should move from the sign-in screen to your account. The phone is used to authorize the console; you do not need to type your password into the PS5 interface when the QR flow completes normally.
If the QR code will not scan
- Increase the phone’s screen brightness and hold the camera parallel to the television.
- Make sure the entire code is visible and has not timed out; return to the sign-in screen to generate a fresh code if necessary.
- Confirm that you are signing in to the intended Crunchyroll account before approving activation.
- Check the app version from the PS5 and use Options > Check for Updates if an update is available.
- If QR sign-in still fails, use manual device activation instead of repeatedly retrying the same code.
Link the PS5 with manual device activation
Crunchyroll also documents a browser-based activation route. It is useful when the phone camera cannot read the QR code, when you prefer to work in a desktop browser, or when the QR page does not open correctly.
- Open Crunchyroll in a web browser and sign in to the account you want to use.
- Open the account’s Device Management page.
- Choose Activate Device.
- On the PS5, open Crunchyroll and display the sign-in or activation screen so the console code is visible.
- Enter the code shown by the PS5 into the browser’s activation form.
- Submit the code and wait for the console to confirm the account connection.
This method links the device through your account settings rather than through the phone’s camera. Enter the code exactly as shown; if it expires, return to the PS5 sign-in screen and use the newly displayed code.

Manage a PS5 on a shared console
Use Crunchyroll’s Device Management page when you need to remove a console from your account. This is especially useful if you signed in on a friend’s or family member’s PS5.
- Sign in to Crunchyroll in a browser.
- Open Device Management.
- Find the PS5 or other console you want to remove.
- Choose the device’s deactivation option.
Deactivating a listed device signs that device out while leaving your other connected devices signed in. It is therefore more targeted than changing account access for every device. On a shared PS5, deactivate the console after you finish if you do not want the next user to open your account.
Watch with free access or a paid membership
You do not have to buy a subscription merely to install the app. Crunchyroll says a free membership can watch a selection of episodes on PlayStation. The available catalog and playback conditions are determined by Crunchyroll and can change, so a free account may not include every series, episode, or feature.
Paid viewing is a separate decision from linking the account. If you subscribe through PlayStation, Crunchyroll’s PlayStation subscription page currently lists the Mega Fan plan. The purchase is charged to your PlayStation Wallet, and the subscription is then managed through the PlayStation billing relationship.

Before moving an existing subscription to PlayStation
Check where your current Premium membership is billed before buying another plan. Crunchyroll says a subscriber whose existing Premium plan is billed elsewhere must cancel that plan and wait for the current billing period to end before subscribing through PlayStation.

- Identify the provider currently charging you for Premium.
- Cancel through that provider, not by deleting the PS5 app.
- Continue using the existing membership until the paid billing period ends, if the provider allows access through the end of the term.
- Only after that period ends, decide whether to purchase the PlayStation-billed plan.
Following this sequence helps avoid overlapping memberships. The PS5 app can be used with an account billed elsewhere; changing the device you watch on does not itself move the subscription to PlayStation.

How cancellation works
Subscriptions are canceled through the company that bills you. A PlayStation-billed Crunchyroll subscription is managed in PlayStation account settings. A subscription billed directly by Crunchyroll is managed through Crunchyroll’s account controls.
Deleting the Crunchyroll app, signing out on the PS5, or removing a payment method does not cancel a subscription. Those actions affect the app, the device session, or the payment method, but they do not send a cancellation request to the billing provider.
Troubleshooting account-linking problems
The app is installed but you cannot find the sign-in screen
Close and reopen Crunchyroll from the PS5 media or home interface. If the app opens to another account, use its sign-out control first, then return to the sign-in screen and generate a new QR code or activation code.

Complete the login in the browser that opened from the scan. If you have multiple Crunchyroll accounts, verify the email address before approving activation. If the code has expired, return to the PS5 sign-in screen and scan the replacement code.
The app version is older than the documented QR-support version
Press Options while the app is selected or open, choose Check for Updates, and install any available update. Crunchyroll identifies PS5 QR sign-in support for version 02.001.004; an older build may not present the same flow.
You no longer have access to a PS5 where you signed in
Open Crunchyroll’s browser-based Device Management page and deactivate the listed console. This logs out that device without removing your other active devices.
You canceled but are still being charged
Check the receipt or account statement to identify the billing provider, then cancel in that provider’s account settings. Removing the app or payment method on the PS5 does not terminate the membership.
