To improve your chances at Sabacc in Star Wars Outlaws, conserve draw chips, watch your opponents, and use the cheats and special rules available at the table you are playing. The strongest official strategy advice is for the Morenia game in the Wild Card story pack, where limited chips make patience especially important; it is not a guaranteed-win formula for every Kessel Sabacc table.
Start by checking which Sabacc table you are playing
Kessel Sabacc is a simplified adaptation, not a single ruleset for every version of Sabacc in Star Wars fiction. Ubisoft game director Thibaut Machin says the design takes inspiration from blackjack’s choice to draw or stand, rummy’s face-up and face-down decks, and Uno’s wildcards. Shift Tokens add another layer of strategy and unpredictability. Ubisoft’s developer account also describes cheats as a way to counterbalance randomness from dice rolls and card draws, not as a promise that a player will win.

The key distinction for strategy is that the Morenia table in Wild Card has unusual restrictions. Ubisoft’s published description gives its specific rules, but does not provide a complete parallel specification for ordinary tables.

At Morenia, make each draw chip count
Wait when a draw is not worth the cost
At Morenia, each player has eight chips and the game lasts more rounds. Machin’s advice is not to spend chips automatically just because a hand might improve: draw when the likely improvement matters, and otherwise hold back. As he put it, “The best tip I can give is not to rush.” The quote and the chip limit are specific to the Morenia game described in Xbox Wire’s 2024 article.
Read the table as well as your hand
Listen to the other players’ dialogue and watch their actions. The Morenia setting includes clues Kay can uncover while exploring; those clues can reveal how particular players cheat and help Kay expose them during the game. Machin says, “During that investigation, there are many clues to find about the other players, which will help you know how they cheat during the game.”

Use the cheats Morenia allows
Shift Tokens are unavailable at this table, but cheating is still permitted. The Xbox Wire guide discusses magnetic dice, double draw, and Nix’s help. Nix’s ordinary attempt to spy on hands is difficult in the crowded Morenia setting, so the table-specific card-planting tactic matters: after using double draw, Kay can plant the bonus card on another player rather than discreetly discard it, creating a chance to get that opponent caught. These options are opportunities, not guaranteed outcomes.
At ordinary tables, learn the local mechanics before committing
Do not assume the Morenia chip strategy, Shift Token ban, or Nix tactics apply elsewhere. At an ordinary Kessel Sabacc table, first check the in-game rules and the table’s permitted actions. Ubisoft confirms that Shift Tokens add strategic variation and that cheats are intended to offset the randomness of draws or dice, but the cited official sources do not give a complete token-by-token reference or a full base-game rulebook.

What these tips can—and cannot—promise
Ubisoft’s published advice offers a practical approach, especially for the Morenia game, but neither the developer nor Xbox Wire reports a measured win rate or a tactic that guarantees victory. The exact current game version and any later balance changes are not established by those sources, so use the rules shown in your current build when they differ from a published description.
