Dynamax Rhyperior with Smack Down and Max Rockfall is the lead counter in Pokémon GO Hub’s September 21, 2026 guide; Dynamax Glaceon and Dynamax Gigalith are its next-best alternatives. Build a Max Battle party around damage, defense, and healing rather than filling all three slots with attackers. Zapdos is Electric/Flying, so Ground attacks are resisted despite Electric’s usual Ground weakness. Pokémon GO Hub’s counter guide is a third-party ranking, not an official Niantic ranking.
What is Dynamax Zapdos weak to?
Zapdos’s Electric/Flying typing makes Rock and Ice its useful weaknesses. Ground is a trap: although Electric Pokémon are usually weak to Ground, Zapdos’s Flying type causes it to resist Ground attacks. The Pokémon GO Hub guide also lists Bug, Grass, Fighting, Flying, and Steel among its resistances. The guide reports Windy and Rainy weather boosts.
Which Dynamax Zapdos counters should you use?
Pokémon GO Hub’s September 21, 2026 guide ranks the following options. Its recommendations are useful starting points, but your Pokémon’s Max Attack level, move, and ability to survive matter as much as species choice.
| Pokémon | Fast move | Max attack | How it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dynamax Rhyperior | Smack Down | Max Rockfall | Guide’s top-ranked Rock attacker. |
| Dynamax Glaceon | Ice Shard or Frost Breath | Max Hailstorm | Ice-type damage option. |
| Dynamax Gigalith | Smack Down | Max Rockfall | Additional Rock-type option. |
| Gigantamax Lapras | Any | G-Max Resonance | Listed Ice-type Gigantamax option. |
| Gigantamax Inteleon | Any | G-Max Hydrosnipe | Listed alternative, but its Water-type attack is not super effective against Zapdos. |
| Dynamax Omastar | Rock Throw | Max Rockfall | Additional Rock-type option. |
Fast-move typing determines the type of the Max Move, according to the guide, so verify the move on the Pokémon you plan to use. A counter’s Max Attack level also matters: a well-developed Max Attack on an eligible Pokémon can outperform a weakly invested theoretical type counter.

How to choose between Rock and Ice
- Choose a Rock attacker such as Rhyperior or Gigalith if you have the right Fast Move and a developed Max Rockfall.
- Choose Glaceon or another suitable Ice attacker when its Max Hailstorm is your stronger ready option.
- Check survivability as well as damage; a Pokémon that stays in the fight can be more useful than one that matches the weakness but falls quickly.
- Use only Pokémon eligible for Max Battles: Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon.
PoGoMate’s simulator also places Rhyperior, Glaceon, and Gigalith in its top three by estimated damage per Max phase. Those estimates model a level-40 attacker with 15 Attack IV, three Max attacks, and no optional bonuses. They exclude normal-phase damage, survival, healing, guarding, and cheering, so they are comparisons under stated assumptions, not predictions of a particular group’s result. How do you build a team to beat Dynamax Zapdos?
Pokémon GO Hub suggests a four-Trainer composition with two attackers, one defender or tank, and one healer. Its example uses Dynamax Rhyperior with Smack Down and Max Rockfall for damage, Dynamax Latias with Dragon Breath for defense, and Dynamax Blissey with Pound for healing. These are suggested roles and examples, not mandatory picks.

Each Trainer brings three Pokémon, and the party must include at least one Max Pokémon. Only Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon can enter a Max Battle, according to Niantic’s Max Battles help page. Coordinate roles with your group and invest in the moves that support your plan instead of assuming every move on every Pokémon needs to be upgraded. The official Pokémon.com overview describes Max Attack as a type-matching attack and also explains Max Guard, which reduces damage, and Max Spirit, which heals the user and allies; Guard and Spirit must be unlocked before use. How do you fight Dynamax Zapdos and manage the Max Meter?
- Enter with an eligible party. A Max Battle allows up to four Trainers. Each Trainer brings three Pokémon and must include at least one Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon.
- Build energy in the normal phase. Tap to use Fast Attacks and build energy for Charged Attacks; swipe to dodge. Attacks fill the Max Meter, and swiping toward energy on the battlefield fills it faster.
- Use your Max phase deliberately. When the meter fills, a Pokémon Dynamaxes for three turns. Use its available Max Attack, Max Guard, or Max Spirit in line with your team role.
- Consider a Max Mushroom only if useful. Niantic says it increases damage for 30 minutes, sometimes longer during special events; multiple mushrooms can stack duration. It is optional, not a requirement for this matchup.
Can you solo Dynamax Zapdos?
Pokémon GO Hub describes this as a fight that is not soloable and is limited to up to four Trainers. Treat that as the guide’s difficulty assessment rather than a guarantee for every roster or future battle conditions. The number of Trainers allowed is not a promise that a particular team will win; roster strength, Max Attack investment, and role coverage affect the outcome.

What happens if your group loses?
A failed attempt can be retried before the Power Spot closes without spending another Max Particle charge. Niantic says particles are deducted only when the group wins. Pokémon GO Hub’s guide lists an entry cost of 800 Max Particles for the Tier 5 Dynamax Zapdos battle; the retry rule means a loss does not deduct that charge.

The official Dark Skies announcement placed Zapdos in Max Battles on August 19–20, 2025, which is historical availability, not evidence of a current event.
