To win the Stardew Valley Fair Grange Display, aim for at least 90 points: fill all nine slots, show items from at least six recognized categories, and choose items with strong sell prices and quality. The scoring rules are listed in the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Grange Display guide.

How the Grange Display is scored

Your score combines a base score, the number of items displayed, category diversity, and the sell price and quality of each item.

  • Base score: 14 points.
  • Item count: The quantity score is 2x − 9, where x is the number of displayed items. Nine items earn 9 points; each empty slot costs 2 points from this component.
  • Category diversity: Each represented category adds 5 points, up to 30 points total. You need six categories to reach that maximum.
  • Value and quality: Each item can contribute up to 8 points based on its actual in-game sell price and quality. The sell price used is not necessarily the item’s base price; farm Profit Margins settings can affect it.

First place requires 90 points. With nine items and six categories, the base, item-count, and category components total 53 points, so your items must contribute at least 37 points combined—just over 4 points per item on average.

Which categories should your display cover?

The eight recognized categories are:

  • Animal Products
  • Artisan Goods
  • Cooking
  • Fish
  • Foraging, including Flowers and Tree Saps
  • Fruits
  • Minerals
  • Vegetables

Use items from at least six different categories for the full 30-point diversity bonus. Items outside these categories can still earn points for sell price and quality, but they do not add a category bonus.

How to prepare and submit a strong display

  1. Choose nine items you can spare temporarily. A full display earns the maximum item-count score.
  2. Cover at least six categories. Check that each item counts toward a recognized category rather than relying on nine valuable items from only a few categories.
  3. Favor higher-value, higher-quality items. Estimate using each item’s actual sell price, taking your farm’s Profit Margins setting into account.
  4. Place the items in the Grange Display and speak to Mayor Lewis to have it judged.
  5. Retrieve your items after judging. In multiplayer, the display is shared by the farm and players receive the same placement; each player must speak to Mayor Lewis separately to collect their Star Tokens.

Placement thresholds and Star Token rewards

Placement Score Star Tokens
First 90 or more 1,000
Second 75–89 500
Third 60–74 250
Fourth Below 60 50

The wiki also describes a special outcome: including Mayor Lewis’s shorts disqualifies the display and awards 750 Star Tokens. That is a separate, humorous outcome—not a way to win the contest.
