In regular PC gameplay, open Settings → Display Options → Field of View and move the slider toward a wider view. That shows more of the scene, but it is not a control for moving the camera farther behind your character. Photo Mode has separate camera controls for composing screenshots.
Widen the view during PC gameplay
- Pause or open the in-game menu.
- Choose Settings, then Display Options.
- Adjust Field of View toward a wider view.
WB Games describes the PC setting as a slider to “widen or narrow the camera’s field of view” in its Hogwarts Legacy PC Features FAQ. A wider field of view fits more of the scene on screen. It does not, by itself, establish that the camera moves farther away from the character. If you mean “make my character smaller by moving the camera back,” the documented PC slider may not do what you want.

Use Photo Mode to reframe a screenshot
Photo Mode offers camera composition controls, rather than a documented change to the camera used during regular play. In the PlayStation update published June 6, 2024, WB Games says to pause and press Square to enter Photo Mode. Its listed camera functions include Move, Rotate, Tilt, and Field of View; focus distance and other visual controls are also available.

Adjust camera feel or magnify the display
WB Games lists accessibility options that can change how the camera behaves or how the screen is viewed, but does not describe them as gameplay camera-distance controls. Options include:
- Camera sensitivity and acceleration
- Camera deadzone
- Follow camera speed
- Camera shake intensity
- PlayStation Zoom and Xbox Magnifier compatibility
These may help if camera movement feels uncomfortable or if you need screen magnification. They are not documented as moving the in-game camera farther behind your character. Details are on the WB Games accessibility features page.

What about console gameplay camera distance?
The official FAQ reviewed for this answer documents a gameplay Field of View slider in its PC FAQ. That does not establish whether PS5, PS4, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch versions have a separate gameplay camera-distance option, so it would be too broad to say that no console version has one. Check the settings available in your version; the PC FAQ is not evidence of console menu parity.

Is there a PC configuration-file tweak?
A February 2023 Steam Community discussion mentions changing FieldOfViewOffset in the PC GameUserSettings configuration file. This is community advice, not an officially supported fix, and the discussion does not establish whether it works with current patches. Treat it as unverified rather than a guaranteed way to move the camera back; the official PC source documents the in-game FOV slider, not this file edit.
