hpz6rwn7.dll is an HP printer-driver component, not a Windows runtime DLL. If hpz6rwn7.dll is missing, not found, or cannot be loaded, identify the HP printer queue and repair its driver rather than downloading the file separately.
Before changing anything, note:
- Which HP printer model and queue name are affected
- Whether the message appears during startup, printing, printer installation, or when opening printer properties
- Whether the computer runs 32-bit or 64-bit Windows
- Whether the printer is connected locally, over a network, or supplied by a print server
- Whether Windows Security recently quarantined a printer file
The filename alone cannot identify one exact printer. Public HP printer-driver records associate it with older HP PCL 6 packages, including LaserJet P3011/P3015 and P2050/P2055 queues.

What hpz6rwn7.dll does
The file normally appears in one of these printer-driver directories:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →C:WindowsSystem32spoolDRIVERSx643

It may be stored alongside files such as hpmcpap6.gpd, HPZUIWN7.DLL, HPZLSWN7.DLL, and PCLXL.DLL. These files form part of the older HP Windows printing stack used by the Print Spooler to process and render print jobs.

The W32X86 folder does not prove that the whole operating system is 32-bit. A 64-bit Windows installation can contain 32-bit printer-driver components for compatibility.
“HP XL Render” is a generic description sometimes shown by file databases. It should not be treated as the name of a separately installed HP application. The exact version can vary by driver package, so a version shown on a DLL index is not a universal target.
Fix 1: identify and remove the broken HP driver
This is the most likely fix when the error appears while printing, installing the printer, or opening printer properties.

1. Record the printer and driver
On Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected HP printer.
- Note its exact name and open Printer properties if available.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the HP printer and choose Manage.
To inspect installed driver packages directly:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
text
printui.exe /s /t2
- Press Enter.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the HP driver associated with the affected queue.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package when that option appears.
On editions that include it, you can also press Windows key + R, enter printmanagement.msc, and inspect Print Servers → Drivers.
Removing only the printer icon is not always enough. The damaged package may remain installed and be reused when Windows recreates the queue.
2. Remove the printer queue
Return to Printers & scanners, select the affected printer, and choose Remove. If Windows reports that the printer is busy, restart the Print Spooler:
Rank #2
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
text
services.msc
- Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and choose Restart.
- Remove the printer again.
Do not delete random files from the spool directories while the service is running. If advanced cleanup is required, stop the spooler, remove only the identified HP driver package through Print Server Properties or Print Management, and then start the service again.
Restart Windows after removing the package. The repair has worked so far if the old queue and HP driver no longer appear, and Windows no longer raises the DLL message while the printer is absent.
Fix 2: install the correct HP driver
Download the driver from HP’s product-specific support page whenever possible. If the model is not known, use HP’s Universal Print Driver page and select the exact Windows release and architecture. For many older LaserJet models, HP’s Universal Print Driver PCL 6 is the relevant package.
Install it in this order:
- Confirm the printer model from its label or the printer’s control panel.
- Open Settings → System → About.
- Check System type.
- Download the matching x86 or x64 package from HP.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Connect the printer when the installer requests it, or provide its network address.
- Print a Windows test page.
A 32-bit package cannot simply replace a 64-bit package, and mixing DLLs from different HP releases can produce new dependency and signature problems. Let the installer place hpz6rwn7.dll and its related INF, GPD, configuration, and dependent files together.
If the test page prints and opening Printer properties no longer produces the message, the driver repair is complete.
When hunting through several model pages and architecture choices becomes the difficult part, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver problems; its free scan shows what it finds, while the full version performs the driver installation. Reinstalling the exact HP printer package remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 3: check Windows Security quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a legitimate printer component, although a detection should not be ignored.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
hpz6rwn7.dllor the HP printer installer. - Check the detected file path and source.
Restore or allow the file only if all of the following are true:
- It came from an official HP driver package
- The package matches the printer model and Windows architecture
- The file is in the printer-driver directory, not an unrelated application folder
- The installer and files have valid digital signatures where provided
- A complete security scan finds no broader infection
If the detection came from an unknown installer or the file was copied from another computer, do not restore it. Remove the old printer package and obtain a fresh installer from HP.

Fix 4: restart the Print Spooler and clear a stuck queue
A stale queue can keep calling a damaged driver even after the printer appears to have been removed.
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners on Windows 11, or Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners on Windows 10.
- Select the HP printer.
- Open the print queue.
- Cancel every pending job.
- Return to services.msc.
- Right-click Print Spooler and select Restart.
- Try a test page.
If the queue cannot be cleared, stop the spooler from the Services window, remove only the affected queue and driver package through the supported printer tools, then start the spooler again. Avoid manually deleting unrelated files from spoolDRIVERS.
Network printers need extra care. The driver may come from a print server rather than the local computer. In that case, the administrator may need to remove and redeploy the package on the server or through the organization’s managed printing system.
Fix 5: repair Windows components only if other Windows files are failing
Because hpz6rwn7.dll normally belongs to an HP printer driver, Windows component repair is secondary. It is useful when other protected Windows files are also damaged, or when Windows cannot install or remove printer packages correctly.

- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
cmd
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the HP printer driver if the DLL error remains.
Microsoft recommends DISM before SFC. These commands repair protected Windows components; they do not reconstruct an HP printer-driver package. If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations but the printer error continues, return to driver removal and reinstallation.
If repeating DISM and SFC leaves you unsure which component is actually damaged, Outbyte PC Repair can scan and show the repair findings; the free scan identifies issues, while the full version performs the repair. For hpz6rwn7.dll, reinstalling the HP driver is still the definitive fix.
Fix 6: use System Restore after a known change
Use System Restore only when the problem began immediately after a known driver installation, Windows update, or printer-software change.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
text
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point created before the failure.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore.
System Restore can remove drivers, applications, and settings added after the selected point. It does not replace the need to install a correct, compatible HP driver afterward.

These messages do not all mean the same thing:
- “hpz6rwn7.dll is missing” or “was not found” usually means the expected driver file is absent from the package location.
- “The specified module could not be found” can mean the DLL itself is missing or that a dependency required by it is missing.
- “There was a problem starting hpz6rwn7.dll” often points to a stale queue, incomplete installation, or damaged driver package.
- “Not designed to run on Windows” or “contains an error” suggests corruption, an incompatible architecture, or files from mismatched driver releases.
The wording alone does not identify the cause. Check the printer queue, driver package, architecture, and file path together.
Do not copy the DLL or run regsvr32
Downloading hpz6rwn7.dll from a random DLL website is risky. The file may contain malware, have the wrong architecture or version, lack the related INF and configuration files, or fail to fix the damaged printer package that originally called it.
Copying a DLL into the root of System32, an application folder, or an arbitrary printer directory is also unsafe. It can create version, dependency, signature, and architecture conflicts.

regsvr32 is not the normal repair method here. It registers DLLs that expose routines such as DllRegisterServer; an HP rendering component is normally loaded by the printer subsystem as part of its driver package. Reinstall the package instead.
If the printer is obsolete
If no compatible HP package exists for the current Windows release, first remove the old queue and driver so it cannot continue generating errors. You may be able to use a compatible class driver or a supported HP Universal Print Driver, but features can differ.
For a printer managed by an organization, do not substitute a downloaded DLL or install an unrelated package. Ask the print-server administrator to update or remove the deployment. If the printer is no longer used, uninstall its HP software and remove its queue.
FAQ
Is hpz6rwn7.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with an older HP printer-driver stack and normally belongs beneath System32spoolDRIVERS, not directly in the root of System32.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCan the filename identify my printer?
No. The same filename can appear in different HP printer packages and versions. Check the queue and installed driver name.
Is the file malware?
There is no established evidence that this DLL is malware. Verify its location, digital signature, package source, and any Windows Security detection before allowing it.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
Normally, no. Printer-driver rendering DLLs are installed and loaded through the printer subsystem rather than manually registered.
Why does the error appear when no HP printer is connected?
A removed queue can leave its driver package or startup utility behind. Inspect Print Server Properties and remove the stale HP driver package.
What if reinstalling the driver reproduces the error?
Remove the queue and package completely first, restart Windows, confirm the correct x86 or x64 package, and then install a fresh model-specific HP driver or supported HP PCL 6 package.
