Look at the printer itself, its original documentation, or the existing printer entry in Windows. Do not choose a similar model based only on the hpzvip09.dll filename.
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected HP printer.
- Record its exact model name.

- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Follow the prompts to add the printer.
A built-in driver may restore basic printing but may not include scanning, ink monitoring, alignment, or other HP features.
Install the package
- Disconnect the printer’s USB cable if the installer instructs you to do so.
- Close printer utilities and any open document applications.
- Run the HP installer.
- Allow it to make changes if Windows displays User Account Control.
- Connect or power on the printer when the installer requests it.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart Windows.

Fix 2: Cleanly remove damaged HP software, then reinstall
If reinstalling fails, remove the old package first. This is also the correct solution if you no longer use the printer and only want the error to stop.
Uninstall HP software
- Disconnect the printer.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for the printer model, HP printer software, HP imaging software, or HP solution center.
- Select the relevant entry.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
On older Windows configurations, open Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features, select the HP software, and choose Uninstall.
Remove the old printer
After restarting:
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the old HP printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
If the printer remains listed:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select View devices and printers.
- Right-click the old printer.
- Choose Remove device.
- Restart Windows again.
If you still need the printer, reinstall the exact HP package after removal. If you no longer own it, leave the obsolete software removed.
Do not delete random files from C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or an application directory. Removing the parent software through Windows is safer because it also handles services, print queues, configuration files, and startup references.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Security software may quarantine an old printer component, especially if the installation is incomplete or the file is no longer expected.

- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
hpzvip09.dllor HP printer software. - Check the original path and the detection details.
Restore the file only when all of these conditions are true:
- The file was inside the expected HP installation directory.
- The HP package came from HP’s official support software.
- The printer software is still required.

If the message appears when Windows starts but you do not use an HP printer, an old HP utility may still be launching.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for HP printer, imaging, status-monitor, or scanner entries.
- Select an obsolete entry.
- Choose Disable.
Then check installed applications and remove the related HP software through Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
If the message continues, identify the launching program before changing anything else:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
eventvwr.msc. - Press Enter.
- Open Windows Logs → Application.
- Look for an error at the time the message appeared.
- Note the application name and path.
You can also inspect Task Manager → Details while the message is displayed. Do not delete a scheduled task or registry value merely because it contains the filename. First confirm that it belongs to obsolete HP software.

A damaged printer entry can remain after the main HP application is removed.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
printmanagement.msc. - Press Enter.
If Print Management is available:
- Expand Print Servers.
- Expand your computer name.
- Select Drivers.
- Locate the old HP driver.
- Remove it only if the printer and its software have already been uninstalled.
Some editions of Windows do not include Print Management. In that case:

- Expand Printers or Print queues.
- Right-click the obsolete HP device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Enable Attempt to remove the driver for this device if Windows offers that option.
- Restart Windows.
For an unavailable printing component, check Windows optional features:
- Open Settings.
- Select System → Optional features.
- Select More Windows features.
- Confirm that Print and Document Services is enabled.
- Expand it and ensure the required printing features are selected.
- Select OK and restart.
Do not expect this step to recreate hpzvip09.dll. It repairs Windows printing features, not the HP-owned file itself.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use Windows repair commands when other system files are also failing, Windows updates are damaged, or the problem began after broader system corruption. These commands are secondary for hpzvip09.dll because the file is not established as a protected Windows component.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the permission prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the printer or restart-triggering application again. If it reports that it could not repair some files, install pending Windows updates, restart, and repeat the DISM-then-SFC sequence.
Running these commands repeatedly without knowing which component changed is frustrating. Do not download a loose DLL
Random DLL sites can provide malware, the wrong version, the wrong architecture, or a file without the dependencies expected by the printer package. A replacement may also make the error appear to change while leaving the damaged HP installation unresolved.

Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
The commonly indexed file is 32-bit, but that does not mean it belongs in C:WindowsSysWOW64. Printer-driver files are installed according to the package’s own directory and registration process. Copying between system folders can create version conflicts.
Do not install Visual C++ just for this filename
hpzvip09.dll is associated with older HP printer software, not established as a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime file. Install a Microsoft runtime only when the affected application specifically requires it and identifies that runtime.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic repair
Run this only when the software vendor explicitly instructs you to register a particular COM or ActiveX DLL. Printer-driver components are not automatically self-registering DLLs, and regsvr32 hpzvip09.dll will normally not repair a missing HP installation.
