Hytale armor is built from four pieces—helm, cuirass, gauntlets and greaves—with shields crafted separately. You make every piece at the Armorer’s Workbench. The material ladder is Copper, Iron, Thorium, Cobalt, Adamantite and Mithril; Tier 2 workbench upgrades reportedly unlock Thorium and Cobalt, while Tier 3 unlocks Adamantite and Mithril. Start with a complete Copper set, then replace pieces as your resources and workbench allow. If materials are limited, craft the cuirass first because one guide reports that it contributes the most to overall protection.

Recipe counts and Mithril’s normal-play availability are not consistent across current third-party early-access guides. Treat the quantities below as provisional and read the recipe shown in your own Armorer’s Workbench before spending rare materials.

How Hytale’s armor system is organized
Each conventional armor set has four equipment slots:
- Helm: head protection.
- Cuirass: chest protection and, according to one upgrade guide, the largest single contribution to a set’s stats.
- Gauntlets: hand and arm protection.
- Greaves: leg protection.
Shields are made through their own Armorer’s Workbench category rather than occupying one of those four set slots. A shield therefore belongs in your defensive loadout, but it is not a fifth piece of the matching armor set.

The workbench is divided into five categories: Helm, Cuirass, Gauntlets, Greaves and Shields. Selecting a category shows the recipes available at your current workbench tier and with the materials in your inventory. Because recipe lists have changed between guides, the in-game panel is the final authority for the build you are playing.
Armor material tiers and what each one is supposed to do
The reported progression is linear:
| Material | Workbench access reported by guides | Reported defensive or offensive identity | Confidence and caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copper | Tier 1 (base workbench) | Protection against projectiles and physical damage | Reported by a third-party guide; exact values are not established. |
| Iron | Tier 1 (base workbench) | Projectile and physical protection, with more protection than Copper in the same guide | Relative advantage is guide-reported, not an official stat table. |
| Thorium | Tier 2 | Poison resistance | Reported special resistance; numerical resistance is not published. |
| Cobalt | Tier 2 | Increased special-attack damage | Reported bonus; the affected attacks and percentage are not established. |
| Adamantite | Tier 3 | Increased light-attack damage | Reported bonus; the amount is not established. |
| Mithril | Tier 3 is reported, but access is disputed | No consistently documented bonus | Guide descriptions conflict on recipes and whether it can be obtained in normal Adventure/Exploration play. |
Only the broad identities above are consistently repeated. There is no verified, official table of armor ratings, resistance percentages or attack multipliers in the material available for this guide. Do not assume that a higher name automatically means a specific percentage increase.
Copper and Iron: the practical first step
Copper is the sensible starting target because it is available at the base workbench and has a straightforward recipe. Iron remains a Tier 1 option and is described as stronger than Copper for physical and projectile protection. If you can gather Iron safely, it is a direct defensive improvement; if not, a complete Copper set gives you coverage in every armor slot much earlier.
Thorium and Cobalt: two different Tier 2 goals
Thorium and Cobalt are both reported as Tier 2 materials, but they serve different purposes. Thorium is associated with poison resistance, making it the more relevant choice when poison is the dominant threat. Cobalt is associated with special-attack damage, so it is aimed at a character whose damage comes from those attacks rather than basic strikes. The sources do not define the exact attacks or provide percentages, so test the stat panel and combat results in your own build before committing a complete set.
Adamantite: a Tier 3 offensive option
Adamantite is listed as a Tier 3 material and is associated with light-attack damage. That makes it a potential fit for a build centered on repeated basic attacks. The available material does not establish whether the bonus applies to every light attack, a particular weapon class or a fixed percentage.

Mithril: do not plan a normal progression around it yet
Mithril appears at the top of the reported ladder, but its status is the least certain. One guide says Mithril gear is unavailable in Adventure/Exploration mode and can be obtained in Creative mode; another says Mithril is not naturally occurring in early access. Until your game’s own recipe and mode restrictions confirm otherwise, treat Mithril as a listed or experimental tier, not a guaranteed endgame upgrade.
Armorer’s Workbench tiers and upgrade costs
Base workbench (Tier 1)
The reported base recipe is 2 Copper Ingots, 10 Tree Trunks and 5 Stone. This recipe is attributed to a third-party guide and should be checked against the construction menu in your version. Tier 1 handles Copper and Iron armor and the corresponding shield recipes shown by the bench.
Tier 2 upgrade
One guide reports the following Tier 2 upgrade cost:
- 20 Copper Ingots
- 20 Bone Fragments
- 20 Medium Leather
- 100 Azure Logs
Tier 2 is reported to unlock Thorium and Cobalt armor. The exact resource names and quantities can change with an early-access update, so confirm the upgrade panel before farming a large stockpile.
Tier 3 upgrade
Tier 3 is reported to unlock Adamantite and Mithril. The reported cost is not settled. One list gives 25 Thorium Bars, 25 Cobalt Bars, 40 Shadoweave Scraps, 40 Sturdy Chitin and 3 Void Hearts; another guide provides no Tier 3 material list at all. Use the in-game upgrade menu as the only reliable shopping list for Tier 3.

How to craft armor step by step
- Build the base Armorer’s Workbench. Gather the reported Tier 1 materials—2 Copper Ingots, 10 Tree Trunks and 5 Stone—or follow the quantities displayed by your construction interface.
- Open the workbench. Select Armorer’s Workbench, then choose Helm, Cuirass, Gauntlets, Greaves or Shields.
- Check the required tier. Copper and Iron should appear at Tier 1. Thorium and Cobalt require the reported Tier 2 upgrade; Adamantite and Mithril are listed as Tier 3 materials.
- Read the live recipe panel. Compare every ingredient and quantity with your inventory. Published guides disagree on several counts, so do not rely on a remembered number.
- Craft the cuirass first when materials are scarce. A progression guide recommends the cuirass because it contributes the largest amount of protection, then the helm, greaves and gauntlets.
- Fill the remaining slots. A complete Copper set is a useful early milestone because it gives all four armor pieces before you begin expensive upgrades.
- Craft a shield separately. Switch to the Shields category and verify its own recipe; shield materials are not included in the four-piece armor-set counts.
- Upgrade the workbench only when the next tier is worth the cost. Save the ingredients shown in the upgrade menu, complete the upgrade, then re-open each armor category to see which recipes became available.
Sample armor recipes (provisional quantities)
The following numbers are examples reported by third-party recipe guides. They are useful for planning, but they are not confirmed universal values. If the workbench displays a different quantity, use the in-game value.
| Piece | Reported ingredients | Required workbench tier | Reliability note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copper Helmet | 6 Copper Ingots and 2 Plant Fiber | Tier 1; no upgrade reported | One guide’s listing. |
| Cobalt Helmet | 12 Cobalt Ingots, 4 Heavy Leather and 4 Shadoweave Scraps | Tier 2 | One guide’s listing; quantities may vary. |
| Adamantite Helmet | 15 Adamantite Ingots, 5 Heavy Leather and 4 Cindercloth Scraps | Tier 3 | One guide’s listing; quantities may vary. |
| Cobalt Greaves | 18 Cobalt Ingots, 6 Heavy Leather and 6 Shadoweave Scraps | Tier 2 | Another source lists different counts for the same piece. |
Because only sample pieces are documented consistently, do not infer the cost of a full set by multiplying one helmet recipe. Cuirasses, greaves and gauntlets can require different quantities, and even the same named piece is listed with conflicting numbers across guides.
Mithril armor: recipes, mode restrictions and a safe approach
Mithril is the most disputed part of the current armor information. For the Mithril Helmet, one guide lists 12 Mithril Ingots, 6 Storm Leather and 40 Essence of the Void; another lists 4 Storm Leather instead. Counts for the cuirass, gauntlets and greaves also differ between sources.
The disagreement is not merely a small arithmetic issue. Availability itself is unresolved: one account says Mithril cannot be obtained in Adventure/Exploration mode and is available in Creative mode, while another says it is not naturally occurring in early access. If you are playing a normal survival-style world, look for a Mithril recipe in the workbench and verify that each ingredient can actually be acquired in that mode before upgrading to Tier 3 for this purpose.
- Do not spend rare materials based on a guide’s Mithril total alone.
- Check whether the recipe is visible in your current mode.
- Confirm that Mithril Ingots, Storm Leather and Essence of the Void have obtainable sources in your world.
- If the recipe is absent, treat Mithril as unavailable rather than assuming a bug.
Which armor should you craft first?
When you need basic survival protection
Craft a full Copper set as your first completion goal. It uses the lowest reported tier, occupies every armor slot and lets you begin exploring without waiting for advanced materials. If Iron is accessible soon afterward, replace the Copper pieces with Iron for the stronger projectile and physical protection reported by one guide.

When poison is the immediate threat
Prioritize Thorium after reaching Tier 2 if the reported poison-resistance effect is present in your version. You do not have to replace every slot at once: begin with the cuirass, then helm, greaves and gauntlets, following the recommended priority. Verify the resistance indicator in the character or equipment screen before assuming the effect is active.
When your damage comes from special attacks
Cobalt is the reported Tier 2 damage-oriented choice for special attacks. Craft the pieces that your workbench makes affordable, but compare the displayed stats with your current armor. A full Cobalt set may not be the best immediate use of resources if your build rarely uses the attacks that receive the bonus.
When you rely on light attacks
Adamantite is the reported Tier 3 choice for light-attack damage. Its workbench requirement makes it a later investment, and the exact bonus is not documented. Confirm the effect in your character statistics or combat testing before replacing a well-upgraded lower-tier defensive set.
Resource planning and upgrade order
Armor progression has two separate costs: the workbench upgrade and the individual pieces. Spending all of a material on one helmet can leave you unable to complete the cuirass or unlock the next bench tier. Use this order when planning a new character:
- Secure the Tier 1 bench. Keep enough Copper, wood and Stone for the workbench before crafting decorative or duplicate gear.
- Complete Copper coverage. Craft the cuirass first, followed by helm, greaves and gauntlets. Add a shield when its recipe is affordable.
- Reserve Tier 2 ingredients. The reported upgrade consumes 20 Copper Ingots, 20 Bone Fragments, 20 Medium Leather and 100 Azure Logs. Check the live menu because this is a guide-reported cost.
- Choose Thorium or Cobalt with a purpose. Thorium is associated with poison resistance; Cobalt with special-attack damage. Avoid collecting both sets immediately unless your resources support it.
- Prepare for Tier 3 only after checking its menu. The reported Thorium Bar, Cobalt Bar, Shadoweave Scrap, Sturdy Chitin and Void Heart list is not confirmed by every guide.
- Verify Mithril before farming for it. Its recipe and Adventure-mode availability remain unsettled.
How to handle conflicting recipe information
Conflicting numbers are common because the available guides describe early-access builds and are not official recipe tables. When a guide and your game disagree, use this hierarchy:
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
- Current in-game recipe: the quantity shown when the item is selected in your Armorer’s Workbench.
- Current in-game upgrade menu: the ingredients displayed for Tier 2 or Tier 3.
- Your game mode: a Creative-only item may be listed online but absent from Adventure/Exploration.
- Guide values: useful as rough preparation estimates, never as a guarantee.
Record the quantities from your own world before leaving the bench. This prevents a common failure mode: gathering the ingredients from an older list, returning to the workbench and discovering that one count or material has changed.

The currently available armor information comes from third-party guides, most of which describe an early-access build and were summarized as roughly nine months old. No official Hytale patch note or official recipe table with these armor quantities was located. That limitation matters most for Tier 3, Mithril and exact per-piece costs.
There are also no verified published statistics for the size of the reported poison-resistance, special-attack or light-attack bonuses. Treat those descriptions as the effects attributed to each material, not as measured percentages. A future patch can alter recipes, unlock conditions, names or bonuses without the older guides reflecting the change.
Quick checklist before you craft
- Have you selected the correct workbench category?
- Is the piece available at your current workbench tier?
- Did you read the quantity in the live recipe panel?
- Are you crafting the cuirass first when resources are tight?
- Do you need defense, poison resistance, special-attack damage or light-attack damage?
- Is the material obtainable in your current game mode?
- Have you kept enough resources for the next workbench upgrade?
- For Mithril, have you confirmed both the recipe and Adventure/Exploration availability?
What to remember
Build around the four-piece structure: helm, cuirass, gauntlets and greaves, with shields handled separately. Copper and Iron are Tier 1; Thorium and Cobalt are reported Tier 2 unlocks; Adamantite and Mithril are reported Tier 3 unlocks. A complete Copper set is the safest early target, and the cuirass is the recommended first craft when every material matters. Use published recipe numbers only as provisional estimates, especially for Tier 3 and Mithril, and trust the recipe and upgrade panels in your own game above any older guide.
