Build a Furnace at a Workbench, load burnable fuel and raw ore, activate it, then collect the finished ingots from the output slot. The basic Furnace is one of Hytale’s essential progression stations: it turns mined ore into the ingots needed for stronger tools, weapons, armor, and later workstations. In the current Early Access data, Tier 1 accepts two queued ore stacks, while Tier 2 accepts three and is reported to smelt about 30% faster.

What the Furnace does
The Furnace is the processing station between mining and metal crafting. Ore collected in the world is not normally used in its raw form for advanced recipes; it must first be smelted into ingots. Those ingots then feed equipment and workstation recipes across the progression path, from early copper and iron gear through thorium, cobalt, adamantite, mithril, and other higher-tier materials.

Smelting is a queue-based process rather than an instant conversion. You supply three things: fuel, one or more ore stacks, and an activation command. The Furnace works through the queue in order and places completed ingots in its output area for you to collect.
Hytale is still in Early Access. Hytale Team’s Update 3 patch notes, posted February 17, 2026, announce that the third update arrived four weeks into Early Access and list the Tier 2 Furnace as a new feature. Recipes, queue limits, fuel values, and processing times can therefore change between builds; treat the figures below as the reported values for that data set and check your in-game interface if it differs.

How to craft a Furnace
Materials and station
The recipe is available in the Workbench crafting tab. It requires:
| Ingredient | Amount | Accepted varieties |
|---|---|---|
| Tree log | 6 | Any accepted tree-log type |
| Stone | 6 | Any accepted stone type |
The Hytale Guide Community Wiki lists the recipe as “6× Any Tree Log” and “6× Any Stone,” made at a Workbench with a listed three-second craft time: Furnace recipe reference. AllThings. How independently reports the same six-log, six-stone requirement and Workbench location: Hytale Furnace crafting and smelting explanation.

- Make and place a Workbench in your base or temporary camp.
- Open the Workbench and select the Furnace recipe in the crafting tab.
- Collect six tree logs and six stone resources. The recipe accepts any variety recognized by the current build.
- Craft the Furnace.
- Place it wherever you want in your base. The researched guides report no special floor, support, or clearance requirement.
If the recipe does not appear, confirm that the Workbench is placed and that you are viewing its crafting tab rather than a personal inventory recipe list. Also check that the logs and stone are in your inventory and that the current build has not changed the recipe.
How to use the Furnace
Load fuel, ore, and start the cycle
- Interact with the placed Furnace to open its interface.
- Put a burnable material in the fuel slot.
- Put raw ore in an input slot. Tier 1 has two input-stack positions; a Tier 2 Furnace has three.
- Activate the Furnace using the interface’s start or activation control.
- Leave enough fuel for the queued work. The Furnace processes the leftmost non-empty input first, then advances to the next stack while fuel remains.
- Remove the resulting ingots from the output slot when processing completes.
AllThings. How describes the queue as sequential: the first stack finishes before the next begins, even when multiple stacks are loaded. GPORTAL likewise says the leftmost non-empty input is selected after activation: GPORTAL’s Hytale Furnace guide. Loading several stacks therefore saves return trips, but it does not make them smelt simultaneously.
Rank #2
What each interface area means
- Fuel slot: holds burnable material that keeps the process running.
- Input slots: hold ore stacks waiting to be processed. The number of available stacks depends on the Furnace tier.
- Output slot: holds the ingots produced by completed smelting and must be emptied so you can collect the result.
- Activation control: starts the Furnace after fuel and ore are present.
Why a loaded Furnace may appear idle
A Furnace can remain inactive when one of the required conditions is missing. Check the fuel slot first, then verify that the input contains raw ore rather than already-processed ingots. Finally, press the activation control; placing items alone does not necessarily begin the cycle. If one stack has finished, collect its output and confirm that the next input is still queued and that usable fuel remains.
Fuel: what to burn and how fuel quality works
Fuel quality affects how long a piece of fuel burns and how often a long queue needs attention. It does not change the recipe’s ore-processing speed: the ore determines its own smelting time. GPORTAL reports the following Early Access fuel-quality values:
Recommended Free Tools
| Fuel | Reported quality value | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Tree trunk | 9 | Strong early-game option when wood is plentiful |
| Charcoal | 6 | Useful for longer sessions once you have a supply |
| Sap | 6 | Alternative fuel with the same reported value as charcoal |
| Stick | 4 | Lower-quality fuel for short or emergency batches |
| Plant fiber | 2 | Lowest listed value; expect more frequent refueling |
These values describe relative burn quality in the cited guide, not a guaranteed number of ore stacks per item. The exact duration a piece lasts, and whether the interface displays a different value in your build, should be verified in game because Hytale is in Early Access.
Choosing between trunks and charcoal
Use tree trunks for routine early smelting when you can gather wood easily. They have the highest reported value in the list and avoid a separate charcoal stockpile. Switch to charcoal for extended mining returns or a large queue once you have a dependable supply; it is less likely to require constant additions than sticks or plant fiber. Keep in mind that burning trunks competes with construction and crafting demand for wood, so charcoal can preserve building materials during sustained metal production.

Preventing fuel interruptions
- Estimate the queue length before leaving the base and load more fuel than a single short batch requires.
- Prefer higher-quality fuel for multi-stack queues.
- Do not assume that adding ore automatically adds fuel; the two inputs are separate.
- After returning from a mining trip, check that the previous batch completed and that output space is clear before starting another queue.
Ores the Furnace can process and example times
The reported examples below show one ore becoming one ingot. Times are per ore in the cited data, not a promise that every stack or future patch will use the same duration.
| Raw ore | Output | Example processing time |
|---|---|---|
| Copper ore | 1 copper ingot | 10 seconds |
| Cobalt ore | 1 cobalt ingot | 18 seconds |
| Adamantite ore | 1 adamantite ingot | 20 seconds |
| Prisma ore | 1 prisma ingot | 4 seconds |
| Mithril ore | 1 mithril ingot | 30 seconds |
The timing and conversion examples come from the Hytale Guide Community Wiki’s Furnace entry: ore-to-ingot examples and times. AllThings. How describes the broader progression from copper and iron through thorium, cobalt, adamantite, and mithril, with the resulting ingots used in later tools, weapons, armor, and workstation recipes: progression overview.
Planning around sequential processing
Because the Furnace handles one queued stack at a time, the slowest material in a mixed load determines how long you will be waiting for the complete queue. Mithril’s reported 30-second example is substantially longer than prisma’s four seconds, while copper takes 10 seconds. If you need a particular ingot for an imminent craft, put that ore in the leftmost available input so it starts first. If you are simply processing a haul, load the stacks in the order that matches your next crafting priorities.
Iron and thorium are part of the documented progression, but the supplied timing table does not state their processing times. Do not substitute an estimate from another ore; use the timer shown by your current Furnace.

Tier 1 versus Tier 2 Furnace
| Comparison point | Tier 1 | Tier 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront upgrade cost | Initial Furnace recipe uses six tree logs and six stone; no ingot upgrade cost is stated. | 5 copper ingots, 5 iron ingots, 5 thorium ingots, and 5 cobalt ingots |
| Queued input stacks | 2 | 3 |
| Smelting speed | Baseline recipe time | Reported to be about 30% faster |
| Processing model | Sequential: the leftmost non-empty input is processed first, then the next while fuel remains | |
| Best fit | Early copper and iron batches or modest mining trips | Regular multi-ore hauls where queue capacity and shorter total processing time matter |
GPORTAL lists the Tier 2 cost and reports that the upgrade adds a third input slot while reducing smelting time by approximately 30%: Tier 2 Furnace details. The percentage is an Early Access report, not a guarantee that every ore’s displayed timer will be reduced by exactly the same number of seconds.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →When Tier 1 is enough
Keep Tier 1 while your trips produce small copper or iron loads, while you are still collecting the materials needed for the upgrade, or while Furnace time is not delaying a planned craft. Two input stacks cover a short session, and upgrading before you can regularly fill the queue provides little practical benefit.
When Tier 2 pays off
Consider Tier 2 after you routinely return with three different ore stacks or enough of one ore to keep the Furnace occupied. The extra input position reduces the need to unload and reload between batches, and the reported speed increase shortens the wait for a large haul. This is a decision based on the listed cost and throughput benefits rather than a measured performance test: spend the upgrade ingots when the time saved is more valuable to your progression than using those ingots in other recipes.
Gathering the upgrade materials
The upgrade consumes five ingots each of copper, iron, thorium, and cobalt. That means you must already have access to all four material tiers and enough fuel to process them. Keep the upgrade target in mind when sorting your mining haul; spending every ingot immediately on equipment can postpone the Furnace improvement.

A practical smelting workflow
Before leaving for a mining trip
- Check that the Furnace is placed and accessible at your base.
- Keep a reserve of trunks, charcoal, sap, sticks, or plant fiber rather than returning with ore and no fuel.
- Empty old ingots from the output slot so a completed batch does not leave the station cluttered.
- If you have Tier 2, leave all three input positions available for the next haul.
When you return with ore
- Open the Furnace and identify the material you need first for your next craft.
- Place that ore in the leftmost input position.
- Fill the remaining positions with other raw ore if you have enough fuel for the queue.
- Add fuel appropriate to the batch length, favoring trunks or charcoal for extended runs.
- Activate the Furnace and confirm that the first input shows progress.
- Collect each completed output before starting another large queue.
During long processing runs
Use the displayed progress and fuel indicators rather than relying on an assumed universal duration. Higher-tier ores can take longer than early metals, and the published examples range from four seconds for prisma to 30 seconds for mithril. If the Furnace stops between stacks, add fuel and reactivate it if the interface requires another start command.

Troubleshooting checklist
The Furnace recipe is missing
- Confirm that a Workbench has been crafted and placed.
- Open the Workbench’s crafting tab.
- Check your inventory for six accepted tree logs and six accepted stone resources.
- Recheck the current build’s recipe if the quantities shown by your interface differ from the reported recipe.
The Furnace will not start
- Put a recognized burnable item in the fuel slot.
- Put raw ore in an input slot; an empty input or an output item will not create a smelting job.
- Press the activation control after loading both fuel and ore.
- Inspect whether the previous batch is still occupying the output area.
The queue stops partway through
- Check whether the fuel supply was exhausted. Lower-quality options such as plant fiber and sticks may need more frequent replacement.
- Verify that the next input stack contains ore and was not removed.
- Collect finished ingots and restart the Furnace if the interface does not automatically continue.
Processing seems slower than expected
- Fuel quality controls burn duration and interruptions, not the recipe’s inherent ore time.
- Compare the displayed timer with the current ore rather than with a different material; the reported examples vary from four to 30 seconds.
- Remember that queued stacks are sequential, so a full load takes the sum of its individual processing times.
- If you own Tier 2, verify that the upgrade is active and that you are using its additional input position; the reported speed benefit is approximately 30%.
Early Access caveats and how to verify your build
The figures in this guide describe the reported 2026 data: the six-log/six-stone Workbench recipe, the listed fuel-quality values, the two- versus three-stack queue sizes, the example ore times, and the Tier 2 cost and speed report. Hytale’s official Update 3 announcement confirms that the game is four weeks into Early Access and that Tier 2 Furnace was added in that update: official patch notes.
Before committing rare materials, open your Furnace and compare its recipe, slot count, timer, and upgrade panel with the values here. A changed number in the current build is evidence of a version difference, not necessarily a mistake in your setup. Use the in-game timer for the ore you are processing and keep extra fuel available until you know how the current build handles a full queue.
Recommended progression plan
- Craft the Workbench and Furnace as soon as you can gather the six logs and six stone required by the recipe.
- Start with trunks or another readily available fuel and smelt the copper or iron needed for immediate equipment.
- Use the two Tier 1 input positions to batch short mining trips instead of processing every ore piece individually.
- Save fuel and monitor the queue when processing slower materials such as the reported 30-second mithril example.
- Once you can regularly supply copper, iron, thorium, and cobalt, compare the five-ingot-per-material Tier 2 cost with your other crafting priorities.
- Upgrade when three-stack queues and the reported approximately 30% speed improvement will be useful on most of your mining returns, not merely because the option has unlocked.
That approach gives you a working smelting station early, avoids wasting rare ingots on a premature upgrade, and makes the Tier 2 investment when its extra capacity will actually remove a bottleneck.
