Hypixel Studios announced on November 17, 2025, that it had reacquired the game from Riot Games, and Hytale entered Early Access on January 13, 2026. It is playable, but it is not a finished release: the studio says the build is unpolished and incomplete, with bugs expected and major features still missing.
How Hytale returned after its cancellation
Riot acquired Hypixel Studios in April 2020. On June 23, 2025, Hypixel announced that Hytale development would end and the studio would wind down. The original founders had not been involved with the project since 2020, according to the studio’s About page.
On November 17, 2025, the Hytale Team announced that it had acquired Hytale from Riot. Hypixel founder Simon Collins-Laflamme said the founders were “fully independent and personally committed to funding Hytale for the next 10 years.” The team reported that more than 30 developers had been rehired, with more expected to return. Those are commitments and staffing figures reported by the studio, not independently verified funding or headcount figures.
The studio also said it had returned to the legacy engine used in Hytale’s trailer and earlier blog posts, rather than continuing with a newer cross-platform engine. Hypixel described the newer engine as substantially behind in gameplay and estimated that it would take two years to reach Early Access. The studio said the legacy build was already playable and would let the team focus on making the game rather than the engine.

In a November 28, 2025, update, the Hytale Team said it had merged more than 300 GitHub branches into one working branch. It also reported that more than 40 former and new staff had been rehired since the cancellation announcement, bringing the team total to 50. These figures describe the studio’s progress as reported in that dated post.
When Hytale Early Access began—and what that means
Hypixel announced January 13, 2026, as the Early Access date, and the Hytale Team confirmed the game’s release into Early Access that day. The team called the game “unpolished and incomplete,” adding that features were missing and bugs were expected. The official store continues to describe Hytale as an Early Access game in active development.

Early Access means players can access a working build while the studio continues development; it does not mean the originally envisioned game is complete. Hypixel’s FAQ says it has no specific duration in mind for Early Access and intends to keep it there until the game feels polished and ready.
What you can play in the Early Access build
Available at the January 13 launch

- Creative Mode: Includes in-game and standalone tools.
- Modding support.
- Multiplayer support.
The studio cautioned that balance and configuration were rough and some systems remained unfinished.

Not included in the launch disclosure
In its January 13 launch post, the Hytale Team listed Adventure Mode, official minigames, the complete restored Orbis world generation as the default spawn, and social features such as friends lists and guilds as not yet included. The studio described Adventure Mode as planned to include story and narrative elements, deeper progression, dungeons, and boss fights. This list reflects the launch disclosure; feature status may change with later updates.
Hytale PC requirements and supported platforms
The official store currently lists support for Windows 10/11, Linux x64, and Apple Silicon Macs running macOS Tahoe 26.0. Its published requirements are targets from the store, not independent performance test results:

Check the official Hytale store page before installing, since operating-system support and listed requirements can change. Hypixel’s December 1, 2025, hardware post explains that single-player runs both the client and server simulation locally, while multiplayer runs the server remotely. Mods and longer view distances can increase hardware demands. The studio recommends considering the overall balance of GPU, CPU, and RAM rather than automatically buying a top-end graphics card.

No physical game copy is established. Hypixel’s December 1, 2025, hardware post says Hytale is an internet download and that the studio does not offer physical sales. The game is sold as digital access through the official store.
