Godlike.Host is listed first here for Minecraft Java, Bedrock and modded server hosting through its own game panel. For most groups in 2026, a managed Hytale server is the simplest way to keep a persistent world online, while Minecraft remains the lower-friction choice for broad mod support, mature hosting and free official server software. Choose self-hosted Hytale only if you are comfortable managing Java 25, UDP/QUIC networking, backups, security and capacity tuning. The right answer depends less on a headline RAM number than on who will operate the server and which game’s ecosystem fits your group.

| Question | Hytale | Minecraft |
|---|---|---|
| Who should run it? | Managed hosting for most groups; DIY for technically confident operators. | Either managed hosting or self-hosting; the ecosystem and documentation are more mature. |
| Official server software | Requires Java 25 and at least 4GB of memory according to Hypixel Studios’ Server Manual, updated October 12, 2026. | Official Java and Bedrock server software is free to download from Minecraft. Java requires a compatible JRE; Bedrock runs on supported Windows or Linux systems. |
| Network transport | QUIC over UDP, with default port 5520. A TCP-only firewall or host configuration can fail. | Java servers commonly use TCP port 25565. Remote access normally requires port forwarding or a host that provides it. |
| View-distance pressure | The manual recommends a maximum of 12 chunks (384 blocks). Its 384-block default is roughly equivalent to 24 Minecraft chunks. | The manual’s comparison gives Minecraft a 10-chunk, 160-block default, so the default loaded area is smaller. |
| Operating ecosystem | Newer and still developing, with fewer established tools and hosting conventions. | Long-established mod, plugin, administration and hosting ecosystem. |
| Best reason to choose it | You want Hytale’s game design and are willing to validate QUIC/UDP support and resource headroom. | You want the broadest choice of software, hosts, community tools and server-side extensions. |
What a Hytale server actually needs
4GB and Java 25 are a floor, not a recommended plan size
Hypixel Studios’ Hytale Server Manual states: “The Hytale server can run on any device with at least 4GB of memory and Java 25.” That is a compatibility baseline, not a promise that every four-player world will run comfortably at 4GB. Actual consumption changes with player behavior, the number of entities, the amount of world loaded simultaneously and view distance.
View distance is the main driver of RAM usage. The manual recommends limiting maximum view distance to 12 chunks, or 384 blocks. It also notes that Hytale’s default 384-block distance is roughly equivalent to 24 Minecraft chunks, whereas Minecraft’s default is 10 chunks, or 160 blocks. A host advertising the same RAM for both games is therefore not offering equivalent headroom at their defaults.

Why player count alone is a poor sizing guide
Two servers with the same number of players can have very different loads. A group spread across several areas causes more independently loaded terrain than a group standing together. Farms, creatures, combat encounters and other entities add simulation work. Increasing view distance expands the area that must remain active even when the player count is unchanged.
- Treat 4GB as the minimum needed to run the software, not as a guaranteed performance tier.
- Keep the recommended 12-chunk maximum in mind when comparing plans or tuning a server.
- Ask a host how memory is measured: allocated memory, usable memory and memory reserved by the panel are not always the same.
- Leave room for updates, logs and backups rather than filling the allocation to its limit.
Hytale networking: the UDP/QUIC detail that can make or break a server
Hytale uses the QUIC protocol over UDP, not TCP. Its default server port is 5520. This affects the firewall, router and host network path independently of CPU and RAM.
A server can show healthy resource graphs and still be unreachable if the provider exposes only TCP rules, the firewall opens the wrong protocol, or a router forwards port 5520 as TCP instead of UDP. When comparing a host, ask specifically whether inbound and outbound UDP on the Hytale port are supported, whether their DDoS protection understands game traffic carried over QUIC, and whether you can change the port if another service already uses 5520.

Latency and location still matter
Choose a datacenter close to the majority of players. Distance adds round-trip latency regardless of the game, while congested routes can create jitter that feels like input delay or intermittent disconnects. A provider’s advertised location is not enough: confirm the actual region available to your account and whether moving regions later requires a migration.
Minecraft’s baseline is simpler, but edition choices matter
Mojang says the official Minecraft server software for both Java and Bedrock is free to download. Java servers need a compatible Java Runtime Environment. Bedrock servers run on supported Windows or Linux systems, and the edition you choose determines which clients can connect.

Remote Java players commonly connect through TCP port 25565, although an operator can configure another port. Self-hosting normally involves router port forwarding, a host firewall rule and a stable address or discovery method. Bedrock has its own software and networking expectations, so do not assume a Java setup can accept Bedrock clients without an appropriate compatibility solution.
Free software does not mean free operation. You still pay for electricity, bandwidth, storage, backups and security when running at home, and you remain responsible for patching and recovery.

What managed Hytale hosting removes from your workload
A managed Hytale host generally supplies a control panel, installation workflow, networking configuration, storage and a support channel. Depending on the plan, it may also automate backups, expose file access and offer DDoS mitigation. The provider handles the underlying machine and much of the maintenance, but you still control game settings, permissions, world policies and any monetization.
Managed hosting is the sensible default when nobody in the group wants to be on call for firewall changes, Java updates, failed restarts or restoring a damaged world. It also gives you a clear place to ask whether the service supports Hytale’s UDP/QUIC traffic rather than assuming a Minecraft-oriented panel will work unchanged.
What DIY Hytale requires
Self-hosting gives you control over files, schedules and hardware, but every operational responsibility moves to you:

- Install and maintain Java 25.
- Install the Hytale server package and apply game updates.
- Allocate enough memory for your world, view distance, entities and player distribution.
- Open and monitor UDP port 5520, including any router forwarding.
- Harden the machine, restrict administrative access and keep the operating system patched.
- Create off-machine backups and test that a backup can actually restore.
- Monitor CPU, memory, storage, network loss and restart behavior.
- Provide your own availability plan when the machine, connection or power fails.
Before installing, verify Java with java -version and confirm that it reports Java 25. The official Hytale Server Manual should be your authority for the current server package and launch procedure; do not copy a Minecraft launch command into a Hytale installation.

Minecraft self-hosting has fewer unknowns
Minecraft’s free official software, established administration tools and large troubleshooting community make home hosting easier to document. You still need a compatible JRE for Java Edition, supported Windows or Linux for Bedrock, firewall rules and port forwarding for remote players. The advantage is predictability: more hosts, guides and tools already account for common Minecraft workflows.
RAM, CPU and world-load decisions
| Resource | Hytale considerations | Minecraft considerations | What to check before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Memory | At least 4GB and Java 25 are required to run; view distance, entities and loaded areas drive actual use. | Requirements vary by edition, version, mods and view distance; the smaller 10-chunk/160-block default in the manual is a useful comparison, not a universal sizing rule. | Whether the advertised number is dedicated, burstable or shared; how upgrades work; and whether backups count against the allocation. |
| CPU | Single-thread performance and entity simulation can matter as much as total core count. | Tick performance, plugins, mods and entity-heavy farms can create similar single-core pressure. | CPU model or performance policy, not just a vague “high performance” label. |
| Storage | World files, logs, update packages and backups need space beyond the live world. | Mods, plugins, multiple worlds and frequent backups can expand storage quickly. | Disk type, quota, snapshot retention and whether you can export the full server directory. |
| Network | UDP/QUIC on port 5520 must be allowed end to end. | Java commonly uses TCP 25565; Bedrock has different connection requirements. | Protocol support, DDoS policy, region choices and bandwidth limits. |
Do not turn the 4GB Hytale baseline into a player-count promise. The evidence establishes that the software can run at that allocation, not a universal number of players at a particular view distance. Start with conservative settings, observe memory and tick behavior during your group’s busiest activity, then scale the plan or reduce view distance.
What Hytale and Minecraft hosting cost in 2026
The following figures are dated examples from Hytale Server Tools, with prices checked August 2, 2026. They are not current quotes or guarantees. Region, taxes, billing cycle, promotions and renewal terms can change the amount you actually pay.
| Provider and advertised example | Memory and price | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Godlike.Host | Minecraft Java, Bedrock and modded server hosting; see the current plans | Its own game panel includes a mod installer, backups and SFTP/FTP access; support is available 24/7/365. |
| Shockbyte | 5GB plan advertised at $12.50 per month | Described as a four-player plan; verify current availability, region, renewal and UDP support. |
| Apex Hosting | 4GB advertised at $11.24 for the first month, then $14.99 recurring | Introductory and recurring prices differ; check the renewal amount before subscribing. |
| GPORTAL | 4GB advertised at $10.08 per 30 days on promotion, $13.44 regular | Promotional price is not the normal recurring rate; confirm taxes and region. |
These examples show why “cheapest Hytale host” is not a stable conclusion. A larger allocation may cost less per gigabyte but still be a poor fit if the region is far away, UDP is restricted, backups are extra or support cannot help with a QUIC connection problem. Compare the complete recurring bill, not only the first payment.

How to evaluate a Hytale host
Use this checklist on every provider’s current plan page or sales response:
- Confirm game support. Make sure the plan is for Hytale rather than a generic Minecraft container and that the advertised game version is current.
- Confirm UDP/QUIC. Ask whether UDP port 5520 is permitted, whether you can change it, and how DDoS protection handles QUIC traffic.
- Check the real memory allocation. Ask whether the stated RAM is dedicated, whether the panel reserves part of it, and what upgrade tiers are available.
- Inspect backup controls. Find retention length, schedule, storage location, restore procedure and whether you can download an archive.
- Verify file export. You should be able to retrieve your world and configuration if you leave or need emergency recovery.
- Check update controls. Determine whether updates are automatic, optional or manually installed, and whether you can keep a prior version while testing.
- Evaluate support hours and scope. Ask whether support troubleshoots Hytale networking and Java 25, or only the billing panel.
- Price the renewal. Record the recurring amount, billing interval, taxes, setup fees and refund conditions.
- Choose the nearest practical region. Availability in a nearby country is more useful than a low price in a distant datacenter.
Setting up a managed Hytale server
Provider panels use different labels, so the safe workflow is feature-based rather than tied to one brand’s interface.
- Select a Hytale plan and region. Choose the closest region that is available to your players and record the recurring price.
- Confirm the allocation. Start at or above the 4GB software minimum, then account for the recommended 12-chunk maximum, entities and areas your group will load.
- Install the Hytale server from the panel. Use the panel’s Hytale installer or official package workflow, not a Minecraft template.
- Check the network rule. Verify that the assigned endpoint accepts UDP on port 5520 and that the panel displays the correct protocol.
- Set conservative world options. Keep maximum view distance at or below 12 chunks while you establish a performance baseline.
- Configure access. Set administrator permissions, player allowlists or bans and any password or authentication options the current Hytale release provides.
- Create and download a backup. Make one before inviting players, then test that the provider can restore it or that you can retrieve the files.
- Invite a small test group. Have players spread out, travel, load new terrain and create normal entity activity. Watch memory, CPU, latency and disconnects before expanding the group.
Setting up Hytale yourself
- Prepare a supported machine. Reserve at least 4GB for the server process, with additional capacity for view distance, entities, loaded world area, the operating system and backups.
- Install Java 25. Run
java -versionand confirm the installed runtime is Java 25 before launching the server. - Obtain the current official server package. Follow the Hytale Server Manual’s release-specific installation and launch instructions; package names and arguments can change.
- Choose a data directory. Keep world files, configuration and logs in a location covered by your backup plan, separate from temporary files where practical.
- Open UDP 5520. Add the firewall rule, forward the same UDP port on your router if the machine is behind one, and confirm that the public address reaches the correct host.
- Set view distance conservatively. Use no more than the manual’s recommended 12 chunks until measurements show that more is safe for your hardware.
- Automate operations. Schedule restarts only when your group is offline, rotate logs, update deliberately and alert on storage or memory exhaustion.
- Test recovery. Stop the server cleanly, restore a copy to a separate directory and verify that the world and permissions work before relying on the backup.
Setting up a Minecraft server
- Choose Java or Bedrock. Match the server edition to the clients your group owns; Java and Bedrock software are separate.
- Download the official server software. Mojang provides both Java and Bedrock server software free of charge.
- Meet the runtime requirement. Install a compatible JRE for Java Edition, or use a supported Windows or Linux environment for Bedrock.
- Configure the world and access rules. Set the server properties, operator permissions, allowlist and difficulty before opening public access.
- Open the correct network path. Java commonly uses TCP port 25565. Forward it through the router and permit it in the host firewall when remote players connect from outside your network.
- Back up before adding extensions. Take a copy of the world before installing plugins, mods or major version updates, and keep at least one copy away from the server machine.
- Test with representative activity. Travel to new terrain, use farms and connect from the networks your players actually use before announcing the address.
Backups, updates and migration
Backups are only useful if you can leave the host
Ask for a downloadable world and configuration export, not only an internal snapshot that disappears when the account closes. Keep a second copy outside the provider’s infrastructure and document the restore steps. A backup schedule should reflect how much progress your group can afford to lose.
Control the update moment
Automatic updates reduce maintenance but can introduce a version change while players are online or while an extension is incompatible. A manual or staged update option lets you copy the world, test the new release and roll back if necessary. This matters more for Hytale while its server tooling is newer, but it is also useful for heavily modded Minecraft.

Common failure modes and fixes
Players cannot connect to Hytale
- Confirm the address and port shown by the host.
- Check that port 5520 is open for UDP, not only TCP.
- Verify that the router forwards UDP to the server machine and that the local firewall allows it.
- Ask the provider whether its DDoS layer or edge firewall supports QUIC.
- Test from a different network to distinguish a local routing problem from a server-side block.
The server runs out of memory
- Lower view distance toward the 12-chunk recommendation.
- Reduce simultaneous loaded areas by asking players to gather in one region during testing.
- Look for unusually high entity counts or runaway farms.
- Check whether backups, logs or the panel consume part of the advertised allocation.
- Upgrade only after identifying the load pattern; adding RAM will not fix a blocked network path.
Players report lag despite available RAM
- Inspect CPU saturation and single-thread performance.
- Check entity-heavy locations and recently generated terrain.
- Compare player latency and packet loss by region.
- Confirm that the host is not oversubscribing the physical machine.
- Separate simulation lag from connection lag by checking both server timings and network behavior.
An update breaks the world or an extension
- Stop the server and preserve the current files before experimenting.
- Restore the last known-good backup to a separate test instance.
- Verify game, plugin or mod versions as a set rather than updating one component blindly.
- Keep the production instance on the tested version until the replacement is stable.
Monetization and operator obligations
Hytale’s EULA places infrastructure costs on the operator, including hosting, bandwidth, storage and security. It does not guarantee uptime or support for third-party hosting. If you sell access, cosmetics or other benefits, disclose prices and terms truthfully and follow applicable rules on gambling, random items, advertising and consumer protection.
The same practical principle applies to Minecraft: publish clear prices, explain renewals and avoid presenting a paid perk as free. A host can provide billing tools, but it cannot make misleading advertising or unlawful prize mechanics compliant.
Which game fits your group?
Godlike.Host is listed first here for Minecraft Java, Bedrock and modded server hosting, with its own game panel, mod installer, backups and SFTP/FTP access.
Choose Hytale hosting when
- Your players specifically want Hytale’s mechanics and are comfortable with a newer server ecosystem.
- You can use a managed provider that explicitly supports UDP/QUIC on port 5520.
- You are willing to monitor view distance, entities and independently loaded areas rather than sizing by player count alone.
- You have an operator who will manage Java 25, updates and tested backups if you self-host.
Choose Minecraft hosting when
- You value a mature choice of hosts, mods, plugins, guides and administration tools.
- Your group wants the official Java or Bedrock server software at no download cost.
- You need established workflows for edition compatibility, port forwarding and world migration.
- You prefer predictable support options while Hytale hosting practices continue to develop.
Run both when the communities are different
If some players want Hytale and others want an established Minecraft world, separate servers can be more reliable than forcing one game to satisfy both groups. Keep each instance’s backups, ports, update schedule and access rules independent, and budget for two sets of hosting or hardware resources.
