Revealed during Day of the Devs 2024: Summer Game Fest Edition, it follows trainee motorcycle couriers Cali and Kira through the coastal city of Sapphire Valley. The full game’s Steam release date is still listed as “To be announced,” but a demo is available.
What is Petal Runner?
Petal Runner is a solarpunk, pixel-art RPG inspired by the look of the Game Boy Color era. Its story centers on Cali and Kira as they train to become specialized motorcycle couriers in Sapphire Valley. The premise combines delivery work and exploration with character encounters, side quests, minigames, and helping digital pets—called HanaPets—find homes. The official Steam listing describes four districts and a mystery involving HanaPets Corporation; these are publisher-provided descriptions, not findings from an independent review.
The reveal was announced on June 7, 2024, in the Day of the Devs 2024: Summer Game Fest Edition context. A contemporary report published the following day quoted Nano Park Studios programmer Danny Guo and pixel artist Brandon James Greer describing their goal as modernizing the feel of retro classics while adding fresh mechanics and minigames. Their announcement also emphasized the companionship between people and pets.
How to play it now
Try the Steam demo
The demo became available on Steam on March 6, 2026. In a March announcement, the developers said it covers the game’s second district and includes minigames, new characters, and HanaPets. Those are developer descriptions of the demo rather than an independent assessment of its content or performance. Later updates promoted the demo at events including the 2026 Wholesome Games Celebration, Gamescom, and PAX West.

A March 10, 2026 patch note listed fullscreen preference persistence, integer scaling, control-label changes, and other fixes. The demo’s launch announcement also disclosed quest-persistence and minigame issues, and a subsequent patch said several listed problems were fixed. That history does not establish which issues, if any, remain in the current build; consult the live Steam announcements for the latest patch information.
Wishlist the full game
The official Steam listing identifies the PC version’s release date as “To be announced.” It does not establish a launch window, so there is no confirmed full-game date to plan around. The practical options are to try the available demo, wishlist the game on Steam for release updates, or wait for more information about the remaining districts and full release.

Platforms, language options, and PC requirements
The cited official listing is for PC on Steam. Its listed interface and subtitle languages are English, French, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Latin American Spanish. The developers announced those six non-English localization additions for the demo in an August 2026 update. Demo localization does not by itself guarantee that every language will be available in the same form in the finished game, so check the live listing for current final-game support.

What the reveal does—and does not—confirm
The 2024 reveal established the game’s developers and publisher, its central characters, and its courier-and-digital-pet premise. Later official updates have added information about the demo, district coverage, patches, and localization. The current Steam listing still leaves the full release date unannounced. No physical edition or Petal Runner soundtrack is established by these announcements.
A September 4, 2026 announcement said attendees could get a Kira Pinny Arcade pin at iam8bit’s PAX West booth. That confirms an event offer, not that the pin is currently available for general sale.
