If Windows says it is missing or cannot load it, repair the application that installed BDE rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
What this file actually does
BDE was a database runtime used by older Delphi and Borland applications. Its Paradox driver lets those programs open Paradox database tables. Other BDE components commonly work alongside it, including idapi32.dll, idasci32.dll, and additional database drivers.

The affected software may be an old business program, inventory system, accounting application, database utility, or another Delphi-built program. The file normally belongs to that application’s BDE installation. Common locations include:
C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesBorlandBDE
C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesBorland SharedBDE
Some installers place the BDE files in the application’s own directory instead.
idpdx32.dll is an x86, 32-bit DLL. A 32-bit BDE application can run on 64-bit Windows through the WOW64 compatibility layer, but it still needs the 32-bit BDE files and configuration. Do not replace it with a 64-bit DLL or assume that it belongs in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

Fix 1: Identify the application that owns the file
Do this before copying or deleting anything. The correct repair package is determined by the program that installed BDE.
Check the shortcut
- Right-click the program’s desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read Target.
- Note the executable name and its folder.
- Open that folder in File Explorer and look for
idpdx32.dll,idapi32.dll, or a BDE directory.
If the error appears when opening a document, database, or launcher, note the exact program name. The program that displays the error is usually the correct starting point, even if the DLL is stored in a shared Borland directory.
Check installed applications
On Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for the application name, Borland, Delphi, Paradox, or a vendor-specific database component.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Modify, Change, or Uninstall, depending on what the installer provides.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Apps & features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Modify or Uninstall.
If the program is not listed, search for its executable and inspect the folder name, publisher information, and nearby documentation. Do not treat the name of the DLL alone as proof of ownership.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the original BDE application
This is the most likely permanent fix because BDE applications require a group of matching files, configuration data, aliases, and drivers.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Try the application’s repair option
- Close the affected program.
- Save a backup of its database files before changing the installation.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Select the application.
- Choose Modify, Change, or Repair.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the application and test the same database operation that produced the error.
If the repair completes and the application opens its Paradox tables, the problem is resolved.
Reinstall from the vendor’s installer
If repair is unavailable:
- Locate the original installer, deployment package, or licensed installation media.
- Confirm that it belongs to the affected application.
- Back up the application’s databases and configuration files.
- Uninstall only the affected application if the vendor’s instructions permit it.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer by right-clicking it and choosing Run as administrator.
- Install the application’s BDE or database-access component when the installer offers that choice.
- Restart Windows again.
- Test the application.
If the software is distributed through a launcher, use its Repair, Verify files, or equivalent command instead of replacing individual DLLs.
Do not install only idpdx32.dll. BDE may also need idapi32.dll, configuration files, language files, registry settings, and other drivers. A copied DLL can make the error change while leaving the actual installation incomplete.
If the original installer is unavailable, contact the software vendor or your organization’s administrator for the licensed installer. An arbitrary DLL archive is not an authoritative BDE source.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
A sudden failure after a security scan often points to quarantine or deletion.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections for
idpdx32.dll, the application executable, or the BDE directory. - Expand a detection to view its path and action.
- If the file came from the trusted application’s expected installation directory, follow your organization’s security policy before choosing Restore or Allow on device.
- Repair or reinstall the application afterward.
- Run a full scan of the complete application directory.
Do not disable antivirus protection simply to obtain a DLL. If the file was found in a temporary directory, a startup folder, or an unrelated program directory, do not restore it automatically. First investigate the executable that loaded it and confirm the installation source.
A filename matching a known BDE component does not prove that a particular copy is safe.
Fix 4: Verify the 32-bit BDE installation and location
On 64-bit Windows, a legacy BDE program normally needs x86 files. This does not mean you should manually place the DLL in a Windows system folder.

- Search File Explorer for
idpdx32.dll. - Record every copy and its full path.
- Check whether the same directory contains

Multiple BDE copies can conflict. Do not delete them blindly. Record their paths first, then use the vendor’s repair or uninstall process to restore the intended layout.
The BDE configuration utility may be called BDE Administrator and may appear in the application’s folder or Control Panel. If it is installed:

- Check that the Paradox driver is present.
- Check the database alias used by the program.
- Confirm that the alias points to the real database folder.
- Apply changes only if you know the vendor’s expected settings.
- Reopen the application.
Fix 5: Check aliases, database paths, permissions, and temporary folders
If the DLL exists but the program still reports “unknown table type,” an application configuration problem may be more likely than a missing file.
Check the following:
- The BDE alias points to the correct database directory.
- The database folder still exists and is connected if it is on a network share.
- Your account has permission to read and write the database files.
- The application’s temporary directory exists and is writable.
- The database and temporary paths are not unusually long or inaccessible.
- The application is not being launched from a read-only location.
- Other BDE files in the installation directory are present.
To test permissions:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Choose Run as administrator once.
- Open the database.
- If it works only as administrator, close it and ask the vendor or administrator to correct folder permissions rather than using elevation permanently.
Do not interpret an access violation in IDPDX32.DLL as proof that the DLL itself is defective. A bad alias, damaged Paradox table, inaccessible temporary directory, or incompatible application environment can produce the same kind of failure.

Fix 6: Do not use regsvr32 for this database driver
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a self-registration entry point, commonly COM or ActiveX components. idpdx32.dll is a database driver, not normally a COM server.
Running commands such as these is not a normal BDE repair:
regsvr32 idpdx32.dll
regsvr32 C:PathToidpdx32.dll
They may produce an entry-point or registration error and do not install the BDE aliases or companion files the application needs. Use the application’s installer and BDE configuration instead.
Fix 7: Update drivers only when there is a separate hardware problem
Updating a graphics, storage, chipset, or other hardware driver will not normally restore idpdx32.dll. Use Device Manager only if Windows also shows a hardware-related fault.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the device with a warning icon.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the work of hunting through many hardware-driver versions; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the BDE application remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 8: Use DISM and SFC only for broader Windows corruption
Because idpdx32.dll is a third-party application DLL, Windows System File Checker will not normally restore it. Consider Windows repair commands only if Windows has other symptoms, such as damaged built-in features, repeated component errors, or failures affecting unrelated programs.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command and wait for it to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the BDE application again.
Run the commands separately. If they report repairs, test Windows and the application afterward. If the BDE error remains, return to the application installer, BDE configuration, and database path rather than repeatedly running SFC.
Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process of identifying broader Windows issues easier by showing what its scan finds; repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional and does not replace reinstalling the specific application that owns idpdx32.dll.
When reinstalling does not work
Collect these details before contacting the software vendor:
- The exact application name and version shown by its installer
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 and whether it is 64-bit
- The complete error message
- The full path of
idpdx32.dll - Whether
idapi32.dllis present - The BDE directory and alias name
- The database path and temporary-directory path
- Recent antivirus protection history
- Whether the problem began after an update, cleanup, or migration
If files repeatedly become corrupted, check the storage device and restore the application from known-good vendor media or a backup. If Windows itself has wider damage, use System Restore only when a suitable restore point predates the failure and you understand which applications may be affected.
FAQ
Is idpdx32.dll part of Windows?
No. It is a legacy 32-bit Paradox driver from the Borland Database Engine and normally belongs to a third-party application.
Should I download the DLL by itself?
No. Random DLL download sites may provide the wrong build, wrong architecture, a modified file, or no solution to missing BDE configuration. Use the original application vendor’s installer.
Does this file belong in System32?
Not normally. BDE applications generally load it from their BDE directory or application directory.
Will Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET repair it?
Those packages are not targeted fixes for this BDE database driver. Repair the application and its BDE runtime first.
Why does a 32-bit application work on 64-bit Windows?
Windows can run many 32-bit applications through WOW64, but the application still requires its 32-bit BDE files and configuration.
Can I copy a working file from another computer?
That often fails because the matching BDE files, aliases, registry settings, and paths may also be required. Use the application’s installer instead.
What does “unknown table type” mean?
It often means the application cannot access the Paradox driver or its BDE configuration. Check the BDE installation, alias, database path, and permissions rather than replacing the DLL alone.
