“The program can’t start because libaow.dll is missing from your computer.” If Windows reports that libaow.dll was not found, could not be loaded, or has an invalid entry point, repair the Tencent emulator that installed it rather than downloading a replacement DLL.

What libaow.dll belongs to
libaow.dll is a third-party application DLL, not a Windows component. Public file records identify it as a 32-bit Tencent file, and related emulator file groups include AndroidRenderer.exe, aow_exe.exe, AEngine.dll, OpenGL translation files, and aow_drv_x64_ev.sys.

The strongest product association is Tencent Mobile Game Assistant, also known as Tencent’s Android emulator. The exact product name can vary between installations, so use the executable named in your error and the folder containing it as your guide.
It is not verified as part of Windows, Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Do not copy it into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or the Windows directory.

These catalog entries are not an official Tencent release list. Do not choose a DLL because a download page calls it “latest.”
Fix 1: Identify and repair the Tencent installation
This is the most likely solution because the executable and libaow.dll must come from the same complete build.
Find the failing application
- Read the filename in the Windows error dialog.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager if the emulator briefly appears.
- Select Details.
- Look for
AndroidEmulatorEx.exe,aow_exe.exe, or another Tencent emulator process. - Right-click it and select Open file location.
- Note the complete folder path. This is the installation that needs repair.
If the program is not running, search for the executable from File Explorer. Check the folder’s properties and avoid assuming that an old shortcut points to the current installation.
Repair or update it
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Tencent Mobile Game Assistant or the related Tencent emulator.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Modify, Repair, Update, or the equivalent option if available.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the emulator from its current shortcut or launcher.
If the launcher has Verify, Repair, Verify files, or Verify game files, run that first. A successful repair should restore the missing file to the application directory and allow the same executable to start without an entry-point error.

If repair is unavailable or fails:
- Back up any emulator data you need.
- In Settings → Apps → Installed apps, select the Tencent emulator.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Check the old installation path for leftover Tencent folders. Remove leftovers only after confirming they do not contain data you need.
- Reinstall from the publisher’s original official distribution channel.
- Start the newly installed launcher and allow it to complete its update or verification process.
Do not copy libaow.dll from another computer or from an older Tencent folder. That can replace a missing-file error with the _AOWDisableSignalCheck@0 entry-point error.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
A sudden disappearance can follow an antivirus quarantine event, but restoring a file blindly is unsafe.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections related to the Tencent installation.
- Expand the detection and check its path.
- If the path is not the original Tencent application directory, do not restore it.
- If it is the original installation, verify that the installer came from the publisher’s official channel and scan the installer before allowing anything.
- Restore or allow the file only after its source and safety are established.
- Restart the emulator.
If the file is restored but the entry-point error remains, the installation is mixed or damaged. Repair or reinstall the complete emulator instead of repeatedly restoring individual files.
Fix 3: Separate a missing DLL from a missing dependency
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that libaow.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found it but failed to load another library that it requires.

- Run the Tencent launcher’s Repair or Verify function.
- Install pending updates for the emulator.
- Restart Windows.
- If the error identifies a Microsoft runtime, install or repair the matching package from Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.
Because the known file records describe libaow.dll as 32-bit, a 32-bit Tencent process normally needs the x86 Microsoft runtime package, even on 64-bit Windows. Microsoft’s package architecture must match the application, not simply the operating system.
Do not install Visual C++ Redistributable as proof that it supplies libaow.dll. There is no reliable evidence that Microsoft’s runtime is the source of this Tencent DLL.

Fix 4: Correct a 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch
A 64-bit Windows installation can run a 32-bit emulator through WOW64. That does not make a 64-bit DLL suitable for a 32-bit process.

- an emulator copied from another computer
- an old executable launching from a different folder than the current launcher
Use the original Tencent installer to restore the application and its DLLs together. Check Open file location again after reinstalling to ensure the shortcut is not still launching an obsolete directory.
Fix 5: Check graphics drivers only when the emulator points there
libaow.dll is not normally repaired through Device Manager. However, an emulator can fail during startup when its graphics components or display driver are damaged.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the active graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the emulator’s repair or update function again.
If the issue began after a graphics driver update, open the adapter’s Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver if Windows makes that option available. Do not remove a working display driver merely because libaow.dll is missing.
Manually hunting through driver versions can be tedious when the emulator, graphics adapter, and Windows build all need to agree. Fix 6: Repair Windows components
System File Checker and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally reconstruct a vendor DLL that belongs in a Tencent application folder, so use them after repairing the emulator rather than instead of it.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the emulator again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If either command reports repairs, test the emulator. If both complete without resolving the error, return to the Tencent installation and look for a second copy, an old shortcut, or a mixed build.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time when the real fault is an application-folder mismatch. If another diagnostic specifically names a Windows component:
- Press Win+R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review Windows Features.
- Enable only the component identified by the error or the application’s documentation.
- Select OK and restart if Windows requests it.
.NET or legacy compatibility features may matter to an application, but they are not verified sources of libaow.dll. If no component is named, close the dialog and continue with Tencent repair.
Why regsvr32 is usually wrong
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose DLL repair command.
libaow.dll is used by an application at runtime, and there is no evidence that it requires registration. Running:

may produce “DllRegisterServer was not found,” or it may target the wrong copy if you are not in the application directory. It will not repair a missing dependency, mixed Tencent build, wrong architecture, or quarantined file.
Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
Avoid websites offering isolated copies of libaow.dll. A downloaded file can be:
- the wrong Tencent build
- the wrong architecture
- altered or malicious
- incompatible with the executable already installed
- missing its own dependencies
It also leaves the damaged parent installation untouched. The safe sources are the Tencent emulator’s original launcher, its built-in repair or verification function, and the publisher’s official installer channel. Microsoft’s official runtime packages should come only from Microsoft.

If reinstalling still produces the entry-point error
Work through this checklist:
- Search the drive for
AndroidEmulatorEx.exeandlibaow.dll. - Check whether two Tencent emulator installations remain.
- Confirm that the shortcut opens the folder you just repaired.
- Compare the timestamps of the executable and DLL. A very old DLL beside a newer executable suggests a mixed installation.
- Check Protection history again.
- Confirm that the emulator is running as the intended Windows user.
- Right-click the launcher, select Properties → Compatibility, and remove unnecessary compatibility settings.
- Test from a fresh Windows user profile if only one account fails.
- Scan the installer and system if the installation came from an unofficial source.
- If a restore point exists from before the failure, press Win+R, enter
rstrui.exe, and select an appropriate restore point.
A successful repair means the Tencent executable and libaow.dll load from one consistent installation, without a missing-file or entry-point dialog.
Prevention
Keep the emulator updated through its own launcher, do not move individual DLLs between installations, and avoid cleanup utilities that remove files from application directories. After antivirus quarantine, verify the installer and publisher before restoring anything. When uninstalling, remove obsolete shortcuts so Windows does not continue launching an old Tencent folder.
