Unable to Locate IFC22.DLL is a documented error from older games and game engines. If ifc22.dll is missing, Windows cannot start the 32-bit program that depends on the Immersion Foundation Classes library.
The safest repair is to identify the game or application that owns the file, then verify or reinstall that program. Do not begin by downloading a replacement DLL or copying one into System32.
Which fix applies to you
Use the first description that matches your situation:
- The error appeared after installing, patching, moving, or deleting a game: verify the game files or reinstall the game.
- The game uses Steam: open the game’s Installed Files page and run file verification.
- The error names an ArmA beta executable: correct the shortcut or launch the beta through its intended launcher.
- Windows Security recently detected or quarantined a game file: inspect Protection history before restoring anything.
ifc22.dllexists beside the game executable but still will not load: a dependent DLL may be missing, corrupted, or the wrong architecture.- The game is very old and fails in several ways: repair the installation first, then test compatibility settings.
- Other Windows features are also failing: use DISM and SFC for possible Windows corruption. These commands do not normally recreate
ifc22.dll.
What ifc22.dll is
ifc22.dll is a 32-bit application library named Immersion Foundation Classes, developed by Immersion Corporation. It is associated with older force-feedback and haptic-device support, rather than with Windows itself.

Croteam’s Serious Engine documentation identifies the related “IFeel” support and mentions ImmWrapper.dll alongside the Immersion library. Rakion Chaos Force also includes both files in its game installation. Older ArmA or Armed Assault beta installations are another documented source of the IFC22.DLL error.
The filename alone cannot identify the exact program on your computer. Other older games may also bundle the file, but a catalogue listing does not prove that every listed game actively uses it.
Publicly reported metadata describes 32-bit variants numbered 2.2.6.0, 2.2.8.0, and 2.2.11.0, with sizes of roughly 0.18 to 0.19 MB. Treat those as catalogue metadata, not as a current Immersion specification.
Why 64-bit Windows can need a 32-bit DLL
A 64-bit installation of Windows can run 32-bit programs through its compatibility subsystem. Those programs still require 32-bit dependencies.

Therefore, a 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer may correctly need a 32-bit ifc22.dll. A 64-bit replacement is not interchangeable with the library required by an older 32-bit game.
Windows normally searches an unpackaged application’s own directory before it searches system directories. The expected location is usually the game folder or a subfolder such as Bin, not C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Fix 1: Verify or reinstall the parent game
This is the highest-confidence fix because ifc22.dll normally belongs to the application that reports the error.
For a Steam installation
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Select Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Start the game from Steam rather than from an old desktop shortcut.
Steam compares the installation with the expected game files and can restore a missing or damaged copy. If the game still fails, restart Windows and test it again.

For a game installed from original media or a publisher launcher
- Open the game’s launcher.
- Look for Repair, Verify, Scan, or Check files.
- Run that operation as an administrator if the launcher provides the option.
- Restart the computer.
- Launch the game from its current launcher.
If no repair option exists, uninstall the game, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the original installer or trusted publisher-provided media. Avoid copying only ifc22.dll from another computer because the installation may also require ImmWrapper.dll, other game files, or additional dependencies.
Check the installation folder
After verification or reinstallation:
- Right-click the game shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Note the Target path and Start in folder.
- Open that folder in File Explorer.
- Look for
ifc22.dllbeside the game executable or in the game’s expectedBinfolder. - Do not move it into a Windows system folder.
If the file is restored and the game opens normally, the repair is complete.
Fix 2: Correct an old ArmA beta shortcut
Some ArmA troubleshooting documentation connects the error with launching a beta executable directly instead of using the beta-patch launcher. In that situation, the file may exist, but the executable is starting with the wrong working directory or search path.
Try this:
- Close ArmA and its launcher.
- Find the shortcut you normally use.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Review the Target and Start in fields.
- Remove a shortcut that points directly to an isolated beta executable if the installation provides a separate beta launcher.
- Start the game through the supplied beta-patch launcher.
- If necessary, recreate the shortcut from that launcher.
Do not solve a shortcut or working-directory problem by downloading another copy of the DLL. If the original beta installation is incomplete, reinstall or repair that patch from its original source.
Fix 3: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an old game library. That is a possible cause, not proof that the file is safe.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open any entry associated with the affected game or
ifc22.dll. - Check its path and detection details.
- Restore or allow it only if the file came from the original installer or a verified game installation.
- If the source is unknown, leave it quarantined and reinstall the game instead.
After restoring a trusted file, run the game’s file verification again. If Defender repeatedly removes the restored file, scan the entire installation and obtain a clean copy from the original game source rather than disabling protection broadly.
Fix 4: Determine whether the file or a dependency is failing
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that ifc22.dll itself is absent. Windows may find it but fail to load one of its dependencies.
Check the following:
- Open the game’s installation folder.
- Confirm whether
ifc22.dllis present. - Look for
ImmWrapper.dllif the game’s files normally include it. - Check whether other files were recently quarantined or deleted.
- Run the launcher’s verification process again.
- If verification reports repeated failures, perform a clean reinstall.
If the message says that the file is “not designed to run on Windows” or contains an error, suspect corruption, an incorrect architecture, or a damaged dependent library. Restore the complete set of files from the original installation rather than replacing one DLL manually.

Fix 5: Test compatibility settings for an obsolete game
Compatibility mode can help an old executable behave correctly on current Windows, but it cannot replace a missing library.
- Right-click the game executable or its current shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version only if the game’s documentation or known behavior calls for it.
- Select Run this program as an administrator only if the game requires elevated access.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start the game and test it.
If compatibility mode changes the error but does not remove the ifc22.dll message, return to file verification or reinstall the game. Compatibility settings are not a substitute for the application’s original files.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate a third-party game DLL.
Use them when Windows has broader symptoms, such as failing built-in applications, damaged system components, or repeated system-file errors.

- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command and wait for it to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- In the same elevated window, run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until both commands finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the game again.
Microsoft provides more detail on System File Checker and DISM image repair.
Repeatedly running SFC or DISM without repairing the parent game will not usually restore ifc22.dll.

Fix 7: Check drivers and optional Windows features only when the symptoms point there
ifc22.dll is not a Windows hardware driver. Updating a graphics, sound, or force-feedback driver is not the primary repair for a missing application DLL. It becomes relevant if the game also reports device errors, crashes when initializing hardware, or loses controller support.

Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and Human Interface Devices.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Use the hardware manufacturer’s official support channel when Windows cannot find a suitable driver. Do not install a driver merely because ifc22.dll is missing.

Manually hunting through several hardware vendors and matching driver versions can be time-consuming. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers, while driver installation through the full version is optional and should not replace reinstalling the game that owns ifc22.dll.
Check Windows Features
Some older games require legacy Windows components, but enabling a feature will not directly install ifc22.dll.
- Open Start and search for Turn Windows features on or off.
- Open the result.
- Review features such as Legacy Components if the game’s documentation specifically requires them.
- Select only a feature you understand and need.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Test the game.
Do not enable unrelated features as a general DLL repair method.
What not to do
Do not download a random DLL
Unverified DLL archives can provide:
- The wrong version
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- A corrupted file
- A file bundled with malware
- A replacement that still lacks another dependency
There is no verified current Immersion redistributable identified here as a universal download for this error. Use the original game installer, a verified game installation, or original installation media.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
A game-owned library normally belongs beside the executable that loads it. Global copying can leave the game using an incorrect version and can increase DLL search-order risks.
Microsoft documents that attackers can exploit searched directories by placing malicious DLLs where an application will load them. Keep the trusted file in the application’s own directory.
Do not use registry cleaners
A missing application DLL is normally an installation or loading-path problem. Cleaning the registry does not recreate the file and can damage unrelated software.

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A runtime library such as ifc22.dll is not documented here as a self-registering COM or ActiveX component.
Running a command such as:
regsvr32 ifc22.dll
is therefore unlikely to fix a launch error and may produce a misleading registration failure. Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor specifically instructs you to register a DLL.

Do not install Visual C++ packages automatically
Install an x86 Microsoft Visual C++ runtime only if the error also names a Microsoft runtime such as MSVCP*.dll or VCRUNTIME*.dll, or if the game’s documentation requires it. A Visual C++ redistributable does not replace ifc22.dll.
If the error still appears
Record these details before asking for support:
- The complete error text
- The exact game or application name
- The executable that displays the error
- The executable’s full path
- Your Windows version
- Whether
ifc22.dllexists beside that executable - Whether
ImmWrapper.dllis also present or missing - Whether the problem began after a patch, reinstall, move, deletion, or antivirus detection
- Whether file verification completed successfully
- Whether the error changes when starting through the official launcher
Then try a clean reinstall to a new folder after removing obsolete mods and unofficial patches. If the original game is no longer supported, use the publisher’s current compatibility guidance or an established community-supported patch, while preserving the original installation files.
