If Windows reports that igcore.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, repair the program that installed it instead of copying a replacement into System32.
What igcore.dll belongs to
Public application inventories associate IGCore.dll with older versions of Google Earth, including Google Earth Pro, and with Google SketchUp 8. It normally belongs in the program’s own installation directory, sometimes beside the executable and sometimes inside an application subfolder such as client or plugin.

| Question | Safe answer |
|---|---|
| Is it part of Windows? | No reliable evidence identifies it as a Windows component, Microsoft runtime, or redistributable. |
| Which programs use it? | Mainly older Google Earth or Google Earth Pro installations and Google SketchUp 8. |
| Is it 32-bit or 64-bit? | A commonly indexed copy is identified as 32-bit, but the correct architecture depends on the application release. |
| Where should it be? | In the owning application’s folder or one of its subdirectories, not normally in System32 or SysWOW64. |
Is every igcore.dll the same? |
No. Builds can differ by program, release, architecture, and dependency set. |
| Is it self-registering? | There is no verified evidence that the Google Earth or SketchUp copy is a COM or ActiveX component. |
The capitalization in the error may vary. igcore.dll and IGCore.dll refer to the same filename on Windows, but similarly named files are not necessarily interchangeable. igCore19d.dll, for instance, is associated with Accusoft ImageGear and is a different file.
Start by identifying the affected application
Read the complete error dialog before changing anything. Common reports include:
#1 Best Overall
- Fresh USB Install With Key code Included
- 24/7 Tech Support from expert Technician
- Top product with Great Reviews
- “The program can’t start because igcore.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting igcore.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Error loading igcore.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because igcore.dll was not found.”
- “igcore.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The program named in the title bar or surrounding message matters more than the filename alone.
Check the shortcut
- Right-click the shortcut that fails.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target and Start in.
- Note the application folder.
- Open that folder in File Explorer and search for
igcore.dll.
You can also use the error’s timing:
- If it appears when starting Google Earth or Google Earth Pro, repair Google Earth first.
- If it appears when starting SketchUp 8 or an old SketchUp extension, treat the SketchUp installation as the owner.
- If no familiar program is shown, inspect the shortcut, startup entries, Task Manager, and the file path before attempting repair.
A file that is present in the correct folder can still produce “specified module could not be found.” That message may mean a dependency of igcore.dll is missing or cannot load.
Fix 1: Reinstall Google Earth Pro
This is the most likely solution when Google Earth reports the error. Google’s current support instructions direct users to remove the existing installation and install the latest supported package. Google also provides separate Windows installers for 32-bit and 64-bit systems and maintains an older direct-installer list where available.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select Google Earth Pro.
- Click Uninstall and complete the wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Download Google Earth Pro from Google’s official Google Earth support or installer page.
- Choose the package that matches your Windows and application requirement.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation.
- Start Google Earth Pro from its new shortcut.
Check whether the repair worked
The repair succeeded if Google Earth opens without the igcore.dll message and reaches its normal map or globe interface. Close it, restart Windows once more, and launch it again to confirm the result is repeatable.
Do not copy igcore.dll from another computer, Google Earth release, or SketchUp installation. Google Earth’s package may contain the file under its own client or plugin directories, and moving only one DLL can leave the installation mismatched.
If you need an older Earth release for a specific project, use Google’s official direct-installer list where that release is still provided. The application version and its complete dependency set must match.
Fix 2: Reinstall Google SketchUp 8 carefully
SketchUp 8 is obsolete and unsupported by SketchUp’s current older-version policy. Current supported installers may not preserve compatibility with old extensions or project workflows.
Recommended Free Tools
SketchUp 8 inventories show IGCore.dll alongside related modules including:
IGAttrs.dllIGGfx.dllIGMath.dllIGSg.dllIGUtils.dll
If several of these files are absent, the installation is damaged rather than suffering from one isolated missing file.
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs and Programs and Features.
- Select Google SketchUp 8.
- Click Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Restore or locate the original trusted SketchUp 8 installer.
- Back up old SketchUp projects and extension files before reinstalling.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Install the application to its original location if the old workflow depends on fixed paths.
- Launch SketchUp before restoring extensions.
- Add extensions back one at a time.
If you do not have the original installer, migrating to a supported SketchUp release may be safer than obtaining an old executable from an unknown source. Test the project files and extensions on a copy first.
Do not substitute IGCore.dll from Google Earth or another SketchUp release. Even files with the same name can expose different functions and require different companion DLLs.

Security software may remove or quarantine an application DLL after a detection or a false positive. Do not restore a quarantined file automatically.
Windows Security steps
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history.
- Expand entries that match the time the application stopped working.
- Record the detection name and original file path.
- Confirm that the path belonged to a genuine Google Earth or SketchUp installation.
- If the file was identified as malware, leave it quarantined and run a full scan.
- If it was a trusted application file and the detection is determined to be a false positive, use the available Restore action.
- Reinstall or update the parent application afterward if the error returns.
Protection History is retained for a limited period, so investigate soon after the failure.
If the file was removed by malware cleanup, reinstall the parent application from its official source instead of restoring the removed file. Restoring a malicious file can reintroduce the threat.
Fix 4: Confirm the application path and permissions
A cleanup utility, failed update, disk problem, or manual restoration of an old program directory can leave only part of the installation behind.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Open file location.
- Search the application folder for
igcore.dll. - If it is missing, reinstall the application.
- If it is present, right-click it and select Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab if one is shown.
- Confirm that the file is in the expected application directory.
- Right-click the application executable and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab only if the old application requires it.
- Try Run this program as an administrator once as a diagnostic test.
If running as administrator changes nothing, undo that setting and continue with a complete reinstall. Administrator mode does not repair a missing dependency.
If “specified module could not be found” remains while the file is present, use a reputable dependency-analysis tool on the application executable or reinstall the entire program. The missing module may be another DLL rather than igcore.dll itself.
Fix 5: Check architecture and mixed versions
A 32-bit application needs its 32-bit dependency set even when Windows is 64-bit. Installing a 64-bit replacement for a 32-bit application, or mixing files from separate releases, can cause:
- “not designed to run on Windows”
- Entry-point errors
0xc000007b- Immediate application termination
Use the complete installer for the application and release you actually need. Do not repair the problem by downloading one file and guessing where it belongs.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
igcore.dll is an application file, so Windows repair commands generally will not recreate it. Use DISM and SFC when other Windows components are also failing, Windows Update is malfunctioning, or system corruption is evident.
Run DISM
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated terminal again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows and test the affected application.
If DISM reports that it cannot repair the image, resolve that Windows servicing problem first. If SFC reports repaired files but the application still shows the same DLL error, reinstall Google Earth or SketchUp. SFC does not normally restore third-party application files.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRepeatedly hunting through Windows components and rerunning SFC or DISM without knowing what changed can waste time. Outbyte PC Repair provides a free scan that shows what it identifies; repair is performed by the full version, but reinstalling the owning application remains the definitive fix for an app DLL.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 7: Investigate drivers only when the failure points to graphics or hardware
A graphics driver is not a verified source of igcore.dll, but older Google Earth installations can also fail because of graphics initialization or driver changes. Use this step when the DLL error began after a driver update, display change, or graphics crash.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Properties and open the Driver tab.
- Record the provider and driver date.
- Use Update driver and choose Search automatically for drivers, or obtain the driver from the computer or GPU manufacturer.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
If the problem began immediately after an update, open the same Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver if available. Do not remove a working display driver without having a replacement plan.
Manually checking numerous hardware models and driver releases is easy to get wrong. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan that identifies stale drivers; driver installation is performed by the full version, and it should not replace the complete Google Earth or SketchUp reinstall when the application owns the missing DLL.

Fix 8: Use System Restore after a known change
If the problem began immediately after cleanup software, a driver change, an update, or another identifiable system change, System Restore may help.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the failure.
- Click Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can revert system files, drivers, registry settings, and installed programs without removing personal files. It may not restore a complete application installation, so reinstall the parent program if the DLL error remains.
What not to do
Do not download a random DLL
Unverified DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong build, the wrong architecture, or a file with altered contents. A replacement may also fail because another dependency is missing. The safe sources are the official Google Earth installer, the original trusted SketchUp installer, a known-good organizational backup, or an identical installation of the same release.
Do not copy it to System32 or SysWOW64
The application should load its own matching DLL from its installation directory. Global system-folder copying can create version conflicts and does not repair the parent program.
Do not run regsvr32 igcore.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that the Google Earth or SketchUp IGCore.dll is such a component. Running the command is not a general DLL repair procedure.
Do not restore malware detections
If antivirus identifies the file as malicious, keep it quarantined, scan the computer, and reinstall the application from its official source.
If the error still appears
Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm the exact executable that displays the dialog.
- Check whether the file path points to Google Earth, SketchUp, or an unrelated program.
- Reinstall the complete matching application.
- Review Windows Security Protection History.
- Check Event Viewer for the faulting application and module.
- Test the application from a new Windows user profile.
- Check folder permissions and disk health.
- Use DISM and SFC only if broader Windows corruption is present.
- Contact the application vendor if the supported installer still fails.
FAQ
Is igcore.dll a Windows system file?
No reliable evidence supports that classification. It is associated with third-party applications, particularly older Google Earth and Google SketchUp 8 installations.
Can I fix it by downloading the DLL?
That is unsafe and often ineffective. Restore the complete application from its official installer or a trusted matching backup.
Why does the error remain when igcore.dll is already present?
Another dependency may be missing, blocked, corrupted, or built for the wrong architecture. Reinstall the complete application rather than replacing one file.
Does Google Earth’s Repair Tool fix this error?
It is useful for cache, graphics, and settings problems after Google Earth launches. It cannot repair a DLL that prevents startup.
Should I install Visual C++ redistributables?
There is no evidence that igcore.dll itself is supplied by Microsoft Visual C++. Install runtimes only when the application’s documentation or a clear dependency error identifies one.
Is SketchUp 8 still supported?
No. Treat the original installer and a backup of the old workflow as important, and test any migration carefully.
