One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchhpc5300t.dll is an HP printer-driver component, specifically a print processor used while Windows handles print jobs. The safest fix is to remove the affected HP printer and reinstall its matching driver through Windows Update or HP’s official support software, rather than downloading the DLL separately.
What this file actually does
A print processor is a user-mode component associated with a printer driver. It helps prepare and process print jobs before they are sent through the Windows print subsystem. That is why hpc5300t.dll may appear in a Windows-managed printer-driver directory, the Driver Store, or a spooler-related location without being a core Windows runtime.

The strongest known association is the HP Photosmart C5300/C5380-era printer software family. Microsoft Update Catalog records related HP packages under names including DOT4, DOT4PRT, and `Dot4Print. These packages cover several Windows generations, including Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 10 or later.

Public file records identify an HP component with the internal filename hpoc5303.DLL. Reported metadata includes version 0.3.6000.16384 and product version 61.081.236.00, but architecture and size records vary. One record lists a 32-bit build of about 1.35 MB, while another records a 64-bit build from the same version family. Do not treat one online file listing as the universal correct copy.

Causes by symptom
| Symptom | Most likely cause | Best first response |
|---|---|---|
| Error appears when printing | Damaged or incomplete HP printer driver | Remove and reinstall the printer |
| Error appears during printer setup | Missing HP package or incompatible architecture | Install the matching driver package |
| “The specified module could not be found” | The DLL or one of its dependencies is missing | Reinstall the driver, then check dependencies |
| Error began after Windows Update | Driver-store or printer registration mismatch | Install pending updates and recreate the printer |
| File disappeared after a security scan | Antivirus quarantine or a damaged installation | Review quarantine and verify the HP installation |
| Several unrelated Windows components fail | Possible Windows component corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Error names an unfamiliar application | The launching process may not be the printer software | Identify the process and DLL path before changing drivers |
Reported messages include:
- “The program can’t start because hpc5300t.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading hpc5300t.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because hpc5300t.dll was not found.”
- “hpc5300t.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The wording does not identify the cause by itself. In particular, “the specified module could not be found” can mean that hpc5300t.dll exists but a dependency required by it does not.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the affected printer
Start here if the message appears during printing, printer installation, spooler startup, or HP software launch.
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Choose the affected HP printer.
- Select Remove or Remove device.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Let Windows search for the printer, or choose the option to add it manually.
- When prompted for software, use Windows Update or the exact HP package for the printer model.
Microsoft’s printer troubleshooting guidance covers removal and reinstallation, while its printer-driver guidance recommends Windows Update or the printer manufacturer’s official support site.
After installation, print a Windows test page:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer.
- Open Printer properties.
- Select Print Test Page.
If the test page prints without the DLL message, the printer registration and driver path have been rebuilt. If the same error returns, the old driver package may still be installed.
Fix 2: Install the exact HP driver package
Identify the printer model before downloading or installing anything. Check the label on the printer, the name shown under Printers & scanners, or the application that displays the error.
For older Photosmart C5300-series devices, related packages may appear as DOT4, DOT4PRT, or Dot4Print in Microsoft Update Catalog. Search the catalog for the full model name rather than searching only for hpc5300t.dll.

Use the driver that matches:
- The exact printer model.
- Your Windows version.
- Your Windows architecture.
- The connection method, such as USB or network.
- The features you need, such as scanning or status monitoring.
To check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System > About.
- Look at System type.
A 64-bit Windows installation can still use a 32-bit utility supplied with an older printer package, but a 32-bit print component cannot simply replace a 64-bit component. The conflicting public records for this filename are another reason to install the complete driver package instead of selecting a DLL by filename.
If the full HP package is no longer available for your Windows release, install the supported Windows in-box driver. It may restore printing without restoring every old HP feature, such as advanced scanning, status monitoring, or custom utilities.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through driver versions and checking which device packages are stale; its free scan shows detected issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. For this file, however, reinstalling the exact HP printer package remains the definitive repair.
Fix 3: Remove an old driver package
Reinstalling the printer does not always remove an obsolete driver from Windows.
For a normal reinstall:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
printmanagement.msc. - Press Enter.
- Expand Print Servers.
- Expand your computer name.
- Select Drivers.
- Locate the old HP driver.
- Right-click it and choose Remove Driver Package if available.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Add the printer again and install the current matching package.
Some editions of Windows do not include Print Management. In that case:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select View devices and printers.
- Select any printer.
- Choose Print server properties from the toolbar.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the obsolete HP driver.
- Choose Remove and then Remove driver and driver package if offered.
Only remove a package when you are sure it belongs to the affected printer. A shared driver can support multiple printers, so deleting it may disrupt other devices.
Fix 4: Run Windows Update
Windows Update may contain a compatible inbox driver or a repaired printer package.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Open Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Check Driver updates.
- Install a relevant HP printer update if one is listed.
- Restart Windows.
- Remove and add the printer again if the error remains.
The Microsoft Update Catalog also contains historical HP Photosmart C5300 entries. Older packages may be useful for legacy hardware, but they should be matched carefully to the printer and Windows architecture.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use this step when Windows reports broader corruption, several unrelated components fail, or the printer driver appears to be stored in a damaged Windows component location.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall or re-add the HP printer.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component source, while SFC checks and replaces protected Windows files. These commands may repair a Windows-managed copy if applicable, but they are not a substitute for reinstalling an HP printer driver.
Repeating SFC alone will not restore a missing third-party printer package. If both commands complete successfully but the same printer error returns, go back to the driver reinstall steps.
Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process of checking system issues less repetitive: its free scan identifies reported problems, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the HP software remains the correct fix when the missing component belongs to that package.

Fix 6: Check antivirus quarantine
If the file disappeared immediately after a security scan:
- Open your antivirus application.
- Open Quarantine, History, or Detection history.
- Look for an entry naming
hpc5300t.dllor the HP printer software. - Check the detected file path.
- Do not restore it automatically if it came from an unexpected user-writable folder.
- Update the antivirus definitions.
- Run a full scan.
- Reinstall the HP printer package from an official source.
There is no reliable file-specific evidence that this DLL is commonly malware or commonly falsely detected. The path and the process that loaded it matter. A copy inside an established HP printer-driver installation is different from a copy launched from a temporary download folder.
Fix 7: Investigate a missing dependency
If the message says “the specified module could not be found” even though the file is present, a dependency may be missing.
First, note when the error occurs and which process displays it. If it appears while launching an unrelated program, do not assume the printer is responsible.

You can use Microsoft Sysinternals Process Explorer to inspect processes and loaded modules:
- Download Process Explorer from Microsoft.
- Run it as administrator.
- Use Find > Find Handle or DLL.
- Search for
hpc5300t.dll. - Review which process has loaded or attempted to load it.
- Record the process path and the DLL path.
- Repair the software associated with that process.
A legitimate HP-related path points back toward printer-driver repair. An unexpected application path requires investigation of that application before changing Windows printer files.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not routinely run:
regsvr32 hpc5300t.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. Print processors are normally installed and associated through the printer driver’s INF configuration and Windows print subsystem.
A failed regsvr32 command does not prove that the file is corrupt. It may simply mean that this print-processor DLL is not designed for manual registration. Use registration commands only when the HP installer documentation specifically requires them.
Why downloading the DLL is unsafe
Avoid standalone DLL download sites and do not copy an arbitrary file into C:WindowsSystem32.
That approach can provide:
- The wrong architecture.
- A different build or incompatible dependency set.
- A tampered or unsafe file.
- A file that bypasses the normal driver installation process.
- A mismatched registry, INF, or Driver Store entry.
Copying the file beside an unrelated application can also hide the real cause while leaving the printer unusable. The safe sources are Windows Update, Microsoft Update Catalog, and the official HP support software for the exact printer model.
If the printer is obsolete
Some older HP printers no longer have a complete feature package for current Windows versions. In that situation:

A generic driver may restore basic printing while leaving legacy HP applications unavailable. That is preferable to installing an unverified DLL.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFrequently asked questions
Is hpc5300t.dll a Windows system file?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a core Windows component. It is associated with HP printer software and the Windows print subsystem.
Is it a virus?
The filename alone does not establish malware. Verify the process and file path, then scan the system. An unexpected copy outside the printer installation deserves more scrutiny.
Can I download the file by itself?
You should not. Install the complete, matching printer driver instead.
Does the error prove the DLL is missing?
No. “The specified module could not be found” may refer to a dependency required by the named DLL.
Will SFC restore it?
Only if the relevant file is covered by Windows component protection. SFC is useful for broader Windows corruption, but an HP driver reinstall is the primary repair.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
Normally, no. Print processors are installed through printer-driver configuration, not routine manual DLL registration.
What if no printer is installed?
Identify the process showing the error and inspect its DLL path. The file may be referenced by leftover HP software or a damaged printer utility rather than an active printer.
