Start with this quick diagnosis
Before replacing anything, note:
- Which program or game fails
- Whether the error appears when launching it, after Windows starts, or during gameplay
- Whether the failure began after a Windows or graphics-driver update
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit, if known
- Whether
igd9dxva32.dllexists in an Intel driver folder or only beside the affected application
igd9dxva32.dll is a 32-bit Intel user-mode graphics-driver DLL. It is associated with Intel Graphics Technology and is normally installed as part of the complete Intel graphics driver package, not as a standalone application file.
The safest first fix is to reinstall the correct Intel graphics driver, preferably the driver supplied by your computer manufacturer. Do not download an isolated copy of the DLL.

What igd9dxva32.dll does
The file is used by Intel graphics software in the user-mode portion of the display driver. The 32 suffix identifies the DLL as 32-bit. It does not mean that Windows itself must be 32-bit. A 32-bit game or program can load this DLL on 64-bit Windows.

Intel driver packages may also contain the matching 64-bit file, igd9dxva64.dll. Both can exist on a 64-bit installation because Windows may need different driver components for 32-bit and 64-bit applications.

This is not normally:
- A Visual C++ Redistributable file
- A .NET file
- A regular DirectX redistributable file
- A DLL that an ordinary application should install independently
The file may be deployed below a Windows DriverStore location such as:
C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository
The exact folder varies by Intel graphics generation, Windows version, hardware manufacturer, and driver package. A copy found beside a game or in an unexpected folder deserves caution.
Understand the error before repairing it
Different messages point to different failure modes.
“igd9dxva32.dll is missing” or “was not found”
Windows or the application could not locate the DLL through its expected loading paths. The driver package may be incomplete, the file may have been quarantined, or a damaged application may be looking for an incompatible component.
“The specified module could not be found”
This does not always mean that igd9dxva32.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the file but failed to load one of its dependencies. A damaged or mismatched graphics-driver installation can produce the same message.
“Not designed to run on Windows” or “contains an error”
This is usually a damaged, incomplete, incorrectly matched, or incompatible file. Copying another version over it is unlikely to repair the complete driver chain.
A crash naming igd9dxva32.dll
A crash report identifies the module where the failure surfaced, not necessarily the original cause. Intel graphics support cases have documented crashes involving this file, but the underlying problem can also be a driver regression, application incompatibility, unstable hardware, or a damaged dependency.

Identify the graphics adapter
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Record the complete Intel graphics model.
- Right-click the adapter and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Record the driver provider, date, and version.
Next, check the support page for your laptop or branded desktop using its exact model. OEM graphics packages can include customizations for power management, display switching, hotkeys, docking, and sleep behavior. Use that package before trying a generic Intel driver.
If your manufacturer does not provide a suitable package, obtain the driver from Intel’s official graphics driver downloads. Match the package to the graphics model and Windows architecture.

Perform a clean installation
- Download the correct OEM or Intel driver before removing the current one.
- If Windows keeps replacing the driver automatically, disconnect from the internet temporarily.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the Intel adapter and select Uninstall device.
- If shown, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device or Delete the driver software for this device.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
- Run the driver installer you downloaded.
- Restart again when installation completes.
- Reconnect to the internet.
The screen may temporarily use a basic display driver during this process. That is expected. The repair worked if Device Manager again shows the Intel adapter without a warning icon and the affected application starts normally.
If the Intel installer says that the driver is not validated for your computer, stop using that package and install the OEM version. Forcing a generic driver can remove manufacturer-specific customizations and create new display or power problems.
Manually comparing driver versions and searching through multiple hardware packages can be time-consuming, especially when Device Manager reports several stale components. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan showing which drivers need attention; repairing or installing drivers with the full version remains optional, and it is not required for this fix.
Fix 2: Try Device Manager repair or roll back the driver
If the error began immediately after a graphics update, the newest driver may be the problem.
Roll back a recent driver
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Double-click the Intel graphics adapter.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver.
- Choose a reason and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the program again.
The button may be unavailable if Windows has no previous driver package. In that case, install the previous driver supplied by your computer manufacturer.
Recommended Free Tools
Let Windows search for a driver
- In Device Manager, right-click the Intel adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Install any offered driver.
- Restart Windows.
Windows Update may not provide the best package for a particular laptop. If this does not help, return to the OEM clean-installation procedure rather than repeatedly using the automatic option.
Fix 3: Check Windows Update and restart pending repairs
A partially completed update can leave the display-driver chain inconsistent.
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Install available updates.
- Restart, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Return to Windows Update and select Check for updates again.
- Open Advanced options and review Optional updates.
- If a display-driver update is listed, install it only if it matches your Intel adapter and does not conflict with the OEM package.
If the failure started directly after an update, use Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates to remove a recent problematic update when Windows offers that option. Do not remove unrelated security updates without a specific reason.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when Windows component corruption is suspected, or when driver installation repeatedly fails.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses, while SFC checks and repairs protected Windows files.
Success means the commands complete without an unrepaired-corruption message and the application launches after restarting. These commands do not reinstall Intel’s complete graphics package. If the error remains, repeat Fix 1.

If you want to avoid hunting through Windows repair commands and interpreting repeated SFC/DISM results, Outbyte PC Repair offers a free scan that shows detected problems; repairs are performed with the full version, and the tool is optional rather than required.
Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may remove or quarantine a driver component after an update or repair.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an action involving
igd9dxva32.dllor an Intel graphics driver. - Do not restore the file merely because its name matches the error.
- First verify that the driver came from your computer manufacturer or Intel.
- If the installation is legitimate, follow your security software’s restore process.
- Reinstall the complete graphics driver afterward.
- Run a full security scan.
If the file exists only in a temporary folder, beside an unknown executable, or in an unusual application directory, do not trust it. Scan the system and rebuild the driver from an official source.
Fix 6: Repair the affected game or application
If only one program fails while other games and graphics applications work, the application installation may be damaged.
Use the launcher’s built-in repair option:
- Open the game launcher.
- Find the affected game in your library.
- Open its menu or properties.
- Select Verify integrity, Verify files, Repair, or the equivalent option.
- Wait for the check to finish.
- Restart the launcher and test the game.
For a conventional desktop application, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the application, choose Advanced options, and use Repair when available. If repair is unavailable or ineffective, uninstall and reinstall the application from its legitimate source.
A 32-bit application can legitimately request igd9dxva32.dll on 64-bit Windows. Do not install a 32-bit version of Windows or replace the 32-bit DLL with igd9dxva64.dll to resolve that request.
Fix 7: Do not install DirectX June 2010 unless another error requires it
The legacy Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtime installs side-by-side components such as older D3DX, XAudio, XInput, XACT, and Managed DirectX libraries. It does not normally install or repair Intel graphics-driver files.
Install the legacy runtime only when the application separately reports a missing file such as:
d3dx9_*.dll
xinput1_3.dll
A DirectX installation is therefore not the normal solution for igd9dxva32.dll. Repair the Intel driver first.
Why downloading or registering the DLL is unsafe
Do not download igd9dxva32.dll from a random DLL website, copy it from another computer, or place it beside the application as a first-line repair.

A loose DLL can have:
- The wrong Intel driver build
- The wrong architecture
- Missing companion files
- Incorrect dependencies
- No trustworthy signing or provenance
- Compatibility problems with the installed graphics hardware
It may also conceal malware or leave the actual damaged driver package untouched.

Do not run bulk commands that register every DLL in System32. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs designed to self-register, usually through a DllRegisterServer entry point. A graphics-driver runtime DLL is not normally repaired by registration, so this command is not an appropriate fix:
regsvr32 igd9dxva32.dll
If you already copied a replacement DLL, remove it only after reinstalling the complete official driver, then scan the computer.
If the error returns after every driver installation
When both the OEM and an appropriate generic Intel driver fail, the DLL may be the location of the crash rather than its root cause.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCheck these areas:
- Open Event Viewer by right-clicking Start and selecting it. Review Windows Logs > System around the failure time.
- Open Reliability Monitor by searching for it from Start. Look for repeated application or hardware failures.
- Check whether the failure began after a BIOS, chipset, Windows, or application update.
- Test with the OEM driver after removing the generic Intel package.
- Check for GPU-related warnings in Device Manager.
- Return any overclocking or undervolting settings to their defaults.
- Test memory stability if crashes affect multiple applications.
- Reinstall the affected game if only that game fails.
A crash naming igd9dxva32.dll does not prove that the file itself is defective. Persistent failures can indicate a driver regression, graphics hardware problem, unstable memory, or an application that does not work correctly with the installed driver branch.
FAQ
Is igd9dxva32.dll a Windows system file?
It is a graphics-driver component installed with Intel graphics software. Windows may store it in DriverStore-managed locations, but it is not a general-purpose Windows runtime that should be downloaded separately.
Do I need 32-bit Windows because the file ends in 32?
No. The suffix describes the DLL architecture. A 32-bit application can load the 32-bit file on 64-bit Windows.
Should I replace it with igd9dxva64.dll?
No. The two files serve different architectures. Install the correct complete driver package instead.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallWill reinstalling Visual C++ or .NET fix it?
Usually not. Those runtimes are unrelated unless the same application reports a separate missing dependency.
What if the file exists but Windows reports a bad image?
Reinstall the full Intel graphics driver. The file may be damaged, mismatched, or unable to load a required dependency.
Is a missing-file error proof that the DLL was deleted?
No. The named file may be absent, quarantined, damaged, or blocked by a missing dependency. “The specified module could not be found” can describe more than one failure.
What is the safest source for the replacement?
Use the exact graphics driver from your computer manufacturer. If no suitable OEM package exists, use Intel’s official graphics driver package. Do not use a loose DLL from an unofficial download site.

When should I reinstall the program?
If only one game or application fails after the driver is repaired, verify or repair its files and reinstall it if necessary. That application repair is definitive for files owned by that program, while the Intel DLL itself should still come from the graphics-driver package.
