What this file actually does
igexportcommon.dll is a private Google Earth application library. Google does not publicly document its exact internal function, so it is better to identify it by ownership than to guess what “IGExport” means.

Fix 1: Check antivirus quarantine first
A Microsoft Q&A report describes Google Earth stopping after security software removed igexportcommon.dll. The file was associated with both the Google Earth client and plugin folders. If the file returns after reinstalling and disappears again after a restart or scan, antivirus interference is the leading suspect.
The labels vary by product, but the workflow is similar:
- Open your antivirus or Windows Security.
- Select Protection history, Quarantine, Detected threats, or Security history.
- Search for
igexportcommon.dll. - Expand the detection and inspect its original path.
- Treat a file in a Google Earth installation directory differently from a file found in a temporary folder, download directory, or Windows system directory.
- Update the antivirus definitions and run another scan.
- If the file is identified as malware or remains suspicious, do not restore it. Submit the detection to the security vendor for analysis.
- If you have verified the Google Earth installation and trust the detection as a false positive, use the product’s Restore or Allow on device action.
- Start Google Earth Pro.
A successful restoration lets Google Earth start without the missing-DLL message. If the file disappears again, do not keep restoring it repeatedly. Remove the damaged installation and reinstall Google Earth Pro after updating the security product.
Do not permanently disable real-time protection. A genuine Google Earth DLL can still be altered or replaced, and an antivirus warning is not automatically a false positive.
Fix 2: Uninstall and reinstall Google Earth Pro
This is the most reliable repair because the problem normally concerns a missing application file or a set of missing companion files. Reinstalling the complete program also avoids mismatched DLL versions.
Uninstall the existing installation
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select Google Earth Pro in Programs and Features.
- Click Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
If Google Earth Pro is not listed:
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- On Windows 11, choose Installed apps. On Windows 10, choose Apps & features.
- Search for Google Earth Pro.
- Select the three-dot menu or the program entry.
- Choose Uninstall.
After the restart, check for obvious leftover Google Earth folders under the old installation path. Do not delete unrelated Google folders. If a previous installation is clearly incomplete and the normal uninstaller is gone, remove only the remaining Google Earth Pro folder after confirming that Google Earth is no longer installed.
Install a clean copy
- Open a browser and go to Google’s official Google Earth Pro download page.
- Download the Windows installer that matches your intended installation.
- If the page offers separate 32-bit and 64-bit packages, choose the package appropriate to the application and Windows environment. Do not mix files from different packages.
- Right-click the downloaded installer and select Run as administrator if a normal launch fails.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Launch Google Earth Pro from the Start menu.
The repair worked if Google Earth opens normally and the original message does not return. If another DLL is reported immediately afterward, multiple files were probably removed or the installation did not complete. Reinstall the application again rather than downloading each named DLL separately.

If the installer fails, confirm that you have administrator access, enough free disk space, a supported Windows installation, and an installer downloaded from Google. Temporarily close other installers and security utilities that may be locking the setup files, but do not leave protection disabled after testing.
Fix 3: Confirm the path and architecture
A missing-file message does not always mean that the named file is the only problem. Windows may find a DLL but fail to load it because the application is the wrong bitness or because a related dependency is absent.
Check the installation folder:
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the Google Earth folder under
C:Program FilesorC:Program Files (x86). - Search for
igexportcommon.dll. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Use the Digital Signatures or Details tabs if present, but do not treat missing metadata alone as proof that a file is malicious.
- Confirm that the file is inside a Google Earth directory and not in
System32,SysWOW64, a temporary folder, or a random download folder.
The 32-bit and 64-bit installers are separate Google Earth packages. A 32-bit application needs its compatible files, while a 64-bit installation needs the matching 64-bit package. Do not copy a DLL from one installation into another.
The correct repair for mixed remnants is:
- Uninstall Google Earth Pro.
- Restart Windows.
- Remove only leftover Google Earth folders that clearly belong to the old installation.
- Download the appropriate official installer.
- Install it with administrator rights.
Do not place the file manually in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Those folders are not the normal locations for this Google Earth library.

SFC and DISM are useful when Windows itself is damaged, but they normally do not restore a third-party Google Earth DLL. Use them when other Windows components or unrelated applications are also reporting corruption.
First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Press Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
Run DISM first:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run System File Checker:
sfc /scannow
Restart when both commands finish and test Google Earth Pro again.

- The Mantle: The mantle is the layer that lies beneath the Earth's crust and extends to a depth of approximately 2,900 kilometers. The mantle is composed of solid rock that is under extreme pressure and temperatures. The mantle is divided into two layers: the upper mantle and the lower mantle. The upper mantle is less dense than the lower mantle and is responsible for driving plate tectonics, which is the movement of the Earth's crust..

DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command normally replaces an application DLL installed by Google Earth, so reinstall Google Earth if igexportcommon.dll remains missing.
If you repeatedly hunt through Windows logs and rerun repair commands without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems; its free scan shows findings, while repair requires the full version. Google Earth Pro still needs to be reinstalled when its own application files are missing.

A graphics driver does not normally cause a missing igexportcommon.dll message, but it can cause Google Earth to open and then crash, render incorrectly, or fail after the DLL issue is fixed.
Update the graphics driver through Windows:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a more complete driver repair:
- In Device Manager, right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current driver supplied by the graphics hardware manufacturer.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of identifying stale drivers across multiple devices; its free scan reports what it finds, while driver installation requires the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling Google Earth Pro when the application DLL itself is gone.
If Google Earth launches but crashes, use its graphics mode, cache, and application-settings troubleshooting rather than continuing to replace DLLs.

Why regsvr32 is usually the wrong fix
Do not normally run:
regsvr32 igexportcommon.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A private Google Earth runtime library is not normally registered that way. The command may return an entry-point error, and even a successful registration would not recreate missing companion files or repair a damaged Google Earth installation.
Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
Downloading igexportcommon.dll from an arbitrary DLL site can provide:
- A malicious or modified file
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- A different build from the one Google Earth expects
- A file with incompatible dependencies
- A replacement that is removed again by security software
It also leaves the underlying incomplete installation untouched. Use Google’s official Google Earth Pro installer, inspect antivirus quarantine, and reinstall the complete application.
If the file keeps disappearing
Work through this sequence:
- Record the exact path reported by antivirus.
- Update the security product.
- Reinstall Google Earth Pro from the official Google installer.
- Start Google Earth and check whether the file is removed after a scan or reboot.
- If it disappears again, submit the detection to the security vendor instead of repeatedly restoring it.
- Run a full malware scan if the file appears outside a Google Earth folder.
- Check whether another cleanup utility is deleting application files.
- Reinstall after removing only confirmed Google Earth remnants.
If the error began immediately after a known security or software change, System Restore may be appropriate after normal reinstall and quarantine checks fail. Use it only when you understand what software will be rolled back.

FAQ
Is igexportcommon.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with the Google Earth or Google Earth Pro desktop installation.
Should I copy it into System32?
No. Google Earth expects its application DLLs in its own installation directories.
Is the file always 32-bit?
No universal architecture should be assumed. Google has distributed separate Windows 32-bit and 64-bit Google Earth builds, and the file must match the installed application.
Can Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET fix it?
They are not the normal fix for this specific missing file. Repair the Google Earth installation first.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What if the DLL exists but the error remains?
The file may be the wrong architecture, another dependency may be missing, or other Google Earth files may be damaged. Uninstall and reinstall the complete application.
Should I restore an antivirus detection?
Only after verifying that the file is in a genuine Google Earth installation and reviewing the security vendor’s detection. A reported false positive is not proof that every copy is safe.
Can SFC restore the file?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not the private DLLs installed by Google Earth.
