Errors this guide addresses
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because ilpointcloudlib.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “ilpointcloudlib.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading ilpointcloudlib.dll.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “ilpointcloudlib.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located.”
The exact wording depends on Windows, the game launcher, and the executable that requested the file.
The 60-second answer
ilpointcloudlib.dll is a private game DLL, not a normal Windows component. Public game file manifests associate it with older titles including Mirror’s Edge, Medal of Honor, and TRON: Evolution. It commonly appears in a game’s Binaries folder, including a 32-bit BinariesWin32Live folder in some installations.

The safest fix is to repair or verify the affected game through its original launcher. If that does not restore the file, reinstall the game from its original store, installation media, or legitimate backup. Do not download a replacement DLL and copy it into System32.
What is ilpointpointcloudlib.dll?
ilpointcloudlib.dll is an application file shipped with the program that needs it. Available file manifests place it beside game executables and other private game libraries. There is no evidence that Microsoft distributes it as part of Windows, Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET.

The file is commonly reported as a 32-bit game library. That matters because a 32-bit game may need x86 supporting components even when Windows itself is 64-bit.
The filename alone does not prove that a file is safe or malicious. A genuine copy should come from the affected game’s own installation.

These are associations, not proof that every error comes from one of these games. A modified installation, unofficial mod, copied executable, or another older game release may also request the same filename.
To identify the game, search the folders where you install games. In File Explorer, search your game library for:
ilpointcloudlib.dll
Also look for the executable that produces the error. If the message appears immediately after launching a shortcut, right-click the shortcut, select Properties, and inspect Target. The executable path usually identifies the game directory.
Search the game’s own folder before searching C:Windows. This DLL should normally be beside the game files that use it.

This is the most likely solution because a failed update, interrupted installation, disk cleanup, damaged drive, or manual deletion can remove a private game DLL.

Steam
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the check and replacement process to finish.
- Start the game again from Steam.
A successful repair normally downloads or restores the missing file in its original game directory. If Steam reports that files were repaired but the error remains, restart Windows and test again.
EA app
- Open the EA app.
- Select Library.
- Find the game.
- Select the three-dot menu on the game tile.
- Choose Repair.
- Wait for the process to complete.
- Launch the game from the EA app.
Other launchers usually provide a similarly named Verify, Repair, or Scan and repair command. Use the launcher that originally installed the game.
If repair does not work
Remove unofficial mods, injected overlays, manually copied DLLs, and replacement executables. Then run verification again. If the launcher repeatedly reports valid files but the error continues, uninstall the game, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the original store or installation media.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus protection may have quarantined or deleted a game file. Check this before downloading anything.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections involving the game folder.
- If the game was installed from a legitimate source, inspect the detection details.
- Restore the file only when you independently trust the original installation and the detection is clearly a false positive.
- Run the game launcher’s file verification afterward.
If the file came from an unofficial DLL download, do not restore it. Remove it and reinstall the game from its original source instead. Microsoft’s Protection History guidance explains how quarantined items are handled.
Fix 3: Install only relevant legacy prerequisites
A message saying “the specified module could not be found” can mean that ilpointcloudlib.dll exists but one of its dependencies is missing.
Do not assume that installing every runtime will fix this filename. First check the game’s documented prerequisites or its installer.

Visual C++ Redistributable
Older games may require a legacy Visual C++ Redistributable. For a 32-bit game, install the x86 package even on 64-bit Windows.
- Open Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.
- Choose the architecture that matches the game, not merely Windows.
- Install the required package.
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the game files again.
- Launch the game.
Different Visual C++ generations can coexist. Do not remove an older package just because a newer package is installed.
Legacy DirectX components
Some older games need optional legacy DirectX libraries that are not replaced by the modern DirectX version included with Windows.

Use Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime only when the game requires those legacy components. Install it, restart Windows, and test the game again. It does not install ilpointcloudlib.dll.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components
Use this step when other Windows applications also fail, system files are damaged, or the problem began after a broader system fault. These commands repair protected Windows components. They usually will not recreate a game-private DLL.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Verify or repair the game again.
Microsoft documents this DISM and System File Checker procedure.
Running these commands repeatedly without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting harder. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, restart Windows and run the commands once more in the same order. If only the game fails, return to game repair rather than treating this DLL as a Windows file.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall relevant drivers
A graphics or chipset driver is not normally the source of ilpointcloudlib.dll itself, but an older game can fail after a driver change, compatibility update, or graphics configuration problem.

First try the driver supplied by your graphics hardware manufacturer or Windows Update.
Use Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click your graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the game.
If the problem began immediately after a driver update:

- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver if available.
- Restart Windows.
If the driver is damaged, choose Uninstall device, restart Windows, and install the current driver from the hardware manufacturer. Do not uninstall unrelated devices while troubleshooting this game.

Do not copy it to System32 or use regsvr32
Do not place ilpointcloudlib.dll in:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are not substitutes for the game’s own directory. A 32-bit game normally loads its private libraries from its installation folder or a related 32-bit subfolder.
Do not run:
regsvr32 ilpointcloudlib.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by registered COM or ActiveX components. There is no evidence that this game library is such a component. Microsoft explains the command in its regsvr32 documentation.
A registration error will not restore a deleted game file or repair a missing dependency.

If the game worked before a recent driver, cleanup, or software change, System Restore may help.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the failure.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the changes.
- Follow the prompts to complete the restore.
- Restart Windows and verify the game files.
System Restore does not replace a proper game reinstall and may not be available. Microsoft’s System Restore instructions explain the process.

If the error still appears
Check these points in order:
- Confirm which executable is requesting the file.
- Search the game’s installation folder and custom library locations.
- Remove mods, overlays, copied executables, and manually added DLLs.
- Verify the game again.
- Confirm that x86 prerequisites are installed for a 32-bit game.
- Check Windows Security Protection history.
- Review the game launcher or crash log for a dependency name.
- Reinstall the game from the original source if the file is absent.
If the file exists but Windows still says it cannot be loaded, the message may refer to a missing dependency rather than the DLL itself. That situation requires identifying the requesting executable and its supporting libraries, not downloading another copy of the same filename.
