“The code execution cannot proceed because imagxr7.dll was not found”
Recommended Free Tools
If Windows reports that imagxr7.dll is missing, corrupted, or could not be loaded, the problem usually belongs to an older application rather than Windows itself.
imagxr7.dll is the ImagXR7 Dynamic Link Library, a component of ImagXpress7, an imaging SDK originally developed by Pegasus Imaging Corp. It may have been installed with scanning, document, image-viewing, conversion, or other legacy software.

Do not download a replacement DLL and copy it into C:WindowsSystem32. The safest repair is to identify the application that owns the file and repair or reinstall that complete application.
Which fix applies to you
Use this list to choose the most likely path:
- The error names a particular program: Repair or reinstall that program first.
- The program was recently removed, moved, updated, or cleaned up: Reinstall it from its original installer or publisher.
- Windows Security recently detected or quarantined the file: Check Protection History before restoring anything.
- The file exists beside the application but will not load: Check whether the application is 32-bit, whether dependencies are missing, and whether the file belongs to the correct installation.
- Several Windows features or applications are failing: Run DISM and SFC, but do not expect them to recreate this third-party DLL.
- The problem began after a recent installation or cleanup: Consider System Restore.
- The original application is no longer supported: Find the executable that requests the file, then contact the application publisher or restore the application from a known-good backup.
What imagxr7.dll belongs to
imagxr7.dll is not a standard Windows component. It is associated with ImagXpress7, an imaging component used by third-party applications for tasks such as:

The filename alone cannot identify the exact program installed on your computer. A documented installation example places the file in the application directory of Dazzle03, an Indigo Learning application, alongside other Pegasus imaging files. ImagXpress7 was also integrated into other software, so Dazzle03 is an example, not a universal answer.
The important point is that the DLL normally belongs beside the application that uses it. It should not normally be copied into a Windows system directory.
Fix 1: Identify and repair the parent application
This is the most likely solution.
Step 1: Read the complete error
Start the program that fails and note the application name shown in the title bar or surrounding message. Also check whether the error appears when launching:
- A scanner utility
- Document-management software
- An image viewer
- A medical or business application
- A custom program used at work
- Older software restored from a backup
If the error appears only when one program starts, that program is the first repair target.
Step 2: Check installed applications
On Windows 11:
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for the program that produces the error.
- Select the three-dot button beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
On Windows 10:
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Apps & features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if Windows provides it.
Not every desktop program offers this button. If there is no Repair option, continue with the classic repair path.
Step 3: Use Programs and Features
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
text
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Find the application that produces the error.
- Select it.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Uninstall/Change, depending on what appears.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the program again.
If the repair completes successfully, the program should start without requesting imagxr7.dll. If the same error remains, reinstall the complete application instead of replacing only the DLL.
Fix 2: Reinstall the complete legacy application
A missing DLL often means that the application installation is incomplete. This can happen after an interrupted update, a failed uninstall, disk cleanup, migration to a new computer, or restoring only part of an old program folder.
Before uninstalling, make sure you have:
- The original installer
- The application’s license information
- Any required activation details
- A backup of application data
- Scanner or device setup information
- Any vendor-provided patches or prerequisites
Then follow these steps:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer.
- Install the application into its normal location unless the publisher specifies another path.
- Restart Windows again.
- Open the application.
For older desktop software, the installer may be on installation media, a company software archive, a backup, or a package supplied by the publisher. Use the complete installer rather than copying imagxr7.dll from another computer.
If the installer offers a choice between a 32-bit and 64-bit edition, use the edition required by the application. The DLL is associated with legacy software, and a 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows, but it still needs the correct 32-bit application files and dependencies.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove a legitimate application file, or it may correctly identify a counterfeit replacement. Do not restore the file automatically.
Check Protection History
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Find the event involving
imagxr7.dll. - Expand the event to view its path and detection details.
Microsoft documents the available actions in Protection History.

Restore or allow the file only when all of these conditions are true:
- It is inside the expected application installation directory.
- The parent application is one you intentionally installed.
- The file came from the original installer or a trusted application backup.
- The publisher, signature, and file details are consistent with the application.
- A current security scan does not identify the file as malicious.
If the file came from a random DLL site, a temporary folder, an email attachment, or an unfamiliar download, do not allow it. Uninstall the affected application if necessary, run a full security scan, and reinstall the application from its original source.
If restoring the file makes the program start once but the file is removed again, the file may be modified, counterfeit, or genuinely unsafe. Reinstall the parent application instead of repeatedly restoring the same copy.
Fix 4: Verify the file location and application architecture
A legitimate application DLL is usually stored in the application’s own folder or in a folder used by that application’s installer.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Find the application folder
- Right-click the application’s shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Look for the application executable and its supporting DLLs.
You can also search for the file:
- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- Search for:
text
imagxr7.dll
- Note every location found.
A copy beside the affected program is more relevant than a copy in C:Windows, C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, a temporary folder, or a user-profile download folder.
Do not move files just to make the error disappear. Windows may load the wrong version, and the application may also require other Pegasus libraries, licensing components, or runtime dependencies.
Check whether the application is 32-bit
Right-click the program’s executable, select Properties, and inspect the available information under Details. The file’s exact architecture should ideally be confirmed from the original installer or publisher documentation.
A 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows through Windows compatibility support. That does not mean a 64-bit replacement DLL is suitable. The application needs the correct architecture for its own code and dependencies.

Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf the program was copied from another computer, moved to a different folder, or installed from a partial backup, reinstall it. A missing dependency may produce an error that names imagxr7.dll even when that file itself is present.
Fix 5: Check for a missing dependency
Windows loader messages do not always identify the true cause. The application may find imagxr7.dll but fail to load it because another library, licensing component, or runtime dependency is missing or incompatible.
This is especially possible when the message says:
- “The procedure entry point could not be located”
- “The application was unable to start correctly”
- “The file is either not designed to run on Windows”
0xc000007b- The application starts briefly and then closes
The safest response is to reinstall the complete parent application and its prerequisites. Installing a random Visual C++ package, DirectX package, or .NET version is not a substitute for the original application installer. Those components may be required by the program, but none is established as the source of imagxr7.dll.
If reinstalling does not help, use Process Monitor or a dependency-analysis utility to identify the executable making the request and the next file that fails to load. Then provide that information to the application publisher or administrator.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They generally do not restore a third-party application DLL such as imagxr7.dll, so use this step when Windows itself is malfunctioning or several unrelated applications are failing.
First install available Windows updates and restart the computer. Then:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control asks for permission.
- Run this command:
text
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
text
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application.
Run DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and test again. If it reports that it could not repair everything, repeat the application repair steps rather than placing a downloaded DLL into a system folder.

A scanner or imaging application may depend on a device driver or an optional Windows component. This does not make imagxr7.dll a driver, but a damaged scanner installation can cause the parent application to fail.
Check Device Manager
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as Imaging devices, Cameras, Printers, or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For an older scanner, obtain the driver from the scanner manufacturer or the application publisher. Do not use a driver merely because its name resembles the missing DLL.

- Review the available Windows Features.
- Enable a required feature if the application’s documentation calls for it.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows.
Do not enable every feature as a general DLL repair. Windows Features will not normally install imagxr7.dll.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore can help when the error began immediately after an installation, update, cleanup operation, or driver change.

Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain COM or ActiveX components.
imagxr7.dll is an application imaging DLL. There is no reliable evidence that it is a COM server requiring registration. Running this command is therefore not a default repair:
regsvr32 imagxr7.dll
If Windows reports that DllRegisterServer is missing, that means the command is inappropriate for this file. It does not prove that the DLL is damaged.
Do not copy the file into System32 or SysWOW64 and do not register it repeatedly. Restore it through the parent application’s installer.
Avoid standalone DLL download sites
A generic DLL download can contain:
- The wrong version
- The wrong architecture
- Missing related libraries
- Altered exports
- A counterfeit file
- Malware
Even when the filename looks correct, it may not match the application’s build or licensing components. It can also hide the real problem, such as a damaged installation or a missing dependency.

If the original installer is unavailable
Start by identifying the executable that requests the file:
- Check the shortcut’s target.
- Search installed application entries.
- Review recent uninstall and update activity.
- Search the application’s installation directory for related Pegasus DLLs.
- Use Process Monitor or a dependency-analysis utility to trace the failed load.
- Contact the publisher or your organization’s software administrator.
If the software is business-critical and very old, compatibility mode or an application-specific update may be necessary. Current documentation for ImagXpress does not establish support for every older ImagXpress7 application on Windows 11.
Prevention
Once the application works again:
- Keep a copy of the original installer and license information.
- Do not delete unknown DLLs during disk cleanup.
- Keep the application in its installed directory.
- Maintain a backup of application data and configuration.
- Record which scanner, driver, and Windows version the program requires.
- Review antivirus quarantine before allowing a removed file.
- Update the legacy application only with packages from its publisher.
- Do not replace application DLLs individually unless the publisher instructs you to do so.
FAQ
Is imagxr7.dll a Windows system file?
No evidence indicates that it is. It is associated with the third-party ImagXpress7 imaging component and should normally be restored through the application that installed it.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Which program installed imagxr7.dll?
The filename alone cannot identify the exact program. It has been found in applications that embedded Pegasus imaging technology, including a documented Dazzle03 installation. Your own error message, shortcut target, and installed-program list are more useful for identifying the parent application.
Should I copy imagxr7.dll into System32?
No. Keep the file in the application’s own installation directory and reinstall the parent application if it is missing.
Will SFC restore imagxr7.dll?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while imagxr7.dll is a third-party application component.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Only if the parent application’s documentation or installer requires that runtime. None of these packages is established as the source of imagxr7.dll.
The Tool Desk

The file may be the wrong architecture, damaged, blocked by security software, or dependent on another missing library. Reinstall the complete application and check its other dependencies.
Can I register the DLL with regsvr32?
Usually not. An error stating that DllRegisterServer is missing indicates that registration is not applicable.
What if antivirus detects the file?
Check its path and provenance in Protection History. Do not restore an unexpected or downloaded copy. Reinstall the parent application and run a full security scan instead.
