imguix.dll is not a Windows system file, so the safest fix is to repair or reinstall the older game or application that originally installed it. Do not download an arbitrary copy and place it in System32 or SysWOW64, because the correct file must match the application and its dependencies.
What this file actually does
imguix.dll is an application DLL described in available file records as “imgui DLL.” It is associated with older third-party software rather than Windows itself. The exact publisher and one universal parent program have not been reliably established.

Treat those details as reported file metadata, not proof that every copy is authentic or that every release uses the same dependencies. The file is not verified as part of the modern Dear ImGui project, and there is no trustworthy Microsoft standalone download for it.
Windows normally searches an unpackaged program’s own folder before looking in system locations. That is why the correct repair usually puts imguix.dll beside the executable that needs it, not in a global Windows folder. Microsoft documents this DLL search behavior and the security risks of loading DLLs from untrusted locations.

Check the shortcut target
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Read the Target field.
- Select Open File Location if that button is available.
- Confirm that the folder contains the program’s main
.exefile.
If the shortcut points to a deleted drive, an old backup, or a folder you moved, the shortcut may be launching an obsolete installation. Browse to the current installation folder and start the executable there.
Check when the error began
Think about what happened immediately before the problem:
- The game or utility was reinstalled.
- A patch or update was applied.
- The program was moved to another drive.
- Disk cleanup removed old files.
- A backup was restored.
- Antivirus software quarantined a file.
- A different copy of the game was installed over the original.
- The application was updated with files from another release.
This history often identifies the cause faster than replacing the DLL.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the original application
This is the most likely solution.
Use a launcher repair or verification feature
If the program has a launcher:
- Open the launcher from the Start menu or its installation folder.
- Sign in if required.
- Open Settings, Manage, Properties, or a similarly named menu.
- Look for Verify files, Repair, Scan and repair, or Check installation.
- Start the repair.
- Wait for it to finish before launching the program again.
- Restart Windows if the launcher requests it.
A repair feature can restore the application’s own copy of imguix.dll and other files without placing anything in a Windows system directory.
If the launcher reports that files are missing but cannot repair them, use the original installer or the application’s legitimate vendor-provided update package.
Rerun the original installer
- Close the affected program.
- Locate the installer you originally used.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Choose Repair if offered.
- If repair is unavailable, choose Install or reinstall the program into its original folder.
- Apply the application’s official patch after installation, if one is required.
- Start the program from its repaired shortcut.
If the installer offers a destination folder, use the same folder shown in the shortcut’s Target field. Installing a second copy elsewhere may leave the shortcut pointing to the damaged installation.
Reinstall cleanly if repair fails
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps and then Installed apps.
- Find the affected game or utility.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the program again from its original legitimate source.
- Apply its official updates or compatibility patch.
- Test the application before restoring custom modifications.
Back up saved games or configuration files first if the program stores them inside its installation folder. Do not copy old DLLs back into the new installation unless the application’s own documentation requires those files.
How to tell whether this worked
The repair succeeded if:
- The program opens without mentioning
imguix.dll. - The repaired installation contains the application’s own DLL files.
- The shortcut points to the repaired folder.
- The program reaches its main menu or normal working screen.
If the same error returns immediately, continue with the antivirus and dependency checks below rather than downloading another copy.
Fix 2: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine an application file. Do not assume a detection is a false positive without examining the exact file and its source.
Check Protection history
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand recent entries.
- Look for an item referring to the affected application or
imguix.dll. - Read the detection name, file path, and action taken.
If the file came from the program’s legitimate installer and you have verified the complete installation, you can review the available Restore or Allow on device action. Follow Microsoft’s warning carefully: restoring a quarantined file can cause Defender to detect it again.
Do not disable antivirus protection merely to force an unknown DLL into the program folder. Instead:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Remove the untrusted downloaded copy if one was used.
- Run a full scan.
- Reinstall the application from its legitimate source.
- Contact the application vendor if the clean installer is repeatedly detected.
How to tell whether this worked
Launch the application after restoring or reinstalling the verified file. If Defender immediately quarantines it again, stop launching the program and investigate the detection. A repeated detection means the file still requires verification, not that protection should be permanently disabled.
Fix 3: Restore the correct 32-bit application files
The documented imguix.dll record is 32-bit. An older 32-bit game or utility needs a compatible 32-bit DLL even when Windows itself is 64-bit.
Do not use the names of the Windows folders as a guide:
System32is not a general-purpose location for this application DLL.SysWOW64is not a general-purpose location for this application DLL.- Copying the file into both folders does not repair the parent program.
- Mixing files from different application releases can cause new startup errors.
Instead, restore the copy supplied by the application’s installer, official patch, launcher verification, or a known-good backup of that exact installation.
Recommended Free Tools
If the application was copied from another computer, copy the complete program folder only when the software license and application instructions allow it. A single DLL copied from another release may not match the executable, configuration, or dependent libraries.
Fix 4: Repair missing dependencies
A message naming imguix.dll does not always mean that this file alone is missing. The Windows loader may report “The specified module could not be found” when a dependency required by imguix.dll is absent.
The reported dependency list includes older Visual C++ 7-era files and jpeg.dll. The safest response is to reinstall the parent application and its documented prerequisites, because those files may be customized for that program.
Reinstall application prerequisites
- Open the application’s installation folder.
- Look for folders named
Redist,Redistributable,Support,Prerequisites, orInstallers. - Run the prerequisite installers supplied with the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the application again.
Microsoft’s current Visual C++ Redistributable packages are not automatically replacements for every older runtime. Install a current package only when the application documentation or installer identifies it as required. Do not assume it supplies MFC70.DLL, MSVCP70.dll, or MSVCR70.dll.

Identify the missing module
If reinstalling does not help, use a reputable dependency-analysis utility to inspect the executable and imguix.dll. Look for a dependency marked missing, but do not download individual files from a DLL-index page.
The public records do not establish a complete dependency list or authenticated export table for every version of imguix.dll. A dependency tool can therefore identify the immediate failure without proving that an online replacement is safe.
Fix 5: Apply compatibility settings to an old program
Some older applications need compatibility settings on current Windows even when all their files are present.
- Open the application’s installation folder.
- Right-click the main executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose the Windows version recommended by the application’s documentation.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch the program.
If the application requires elevated access:
- Right-click the executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open Compatibility.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
Test one change at a time. Compatibility mode will not recreate a missing DLL, so first repair the application files.
Fix 6: Check Windows optional features only when the program requires them
imguix.dll itself is not established as a Windows component. Turning on random Windows features will not normally restore it.
Use Windows Features only if the application’s official instructions identify a required legacy component:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review the feature named in the application’s documentation.
- Select its check box.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
Do not enable unrelated features as a general DLL repair. If the application specifically requires a legacy component such as an older compatibility feature, use the exact feature named by its documentation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 7: Run DISM and System File Checker for wider Windows problems
DISM and SFC are useful when Windows itself is damaged. They will not normally recreate a third-party, application-local imguix.dll.

- Then run:
sfc /scannow

Microsoft instructs users to run DISM before SFC.
Repeatedly running these commands will not supply a missing game DLL. Outbyte PC Repair can show what its free scan finds when manually repeating SFC and DISM is not clarifying what changed; any repair is performed by the full version, and reinstalling the affected game or application remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 8: Update drivers only when the symptoms point to a driver problem
A graphics or audio driver issue can prevent an old game from starting, but it does not prove that the driver owns imguix.dll. Use Device Manager only when the application also shows display, sound, controller, or hardware errors.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters or Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Note the driver provider and version.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a clean reinstall, obtain the driver from the computer or hardware manufacturer’s official support page. Avoid replacing drivers merely because imguix.dll is missing.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the work of hunting through hardware pages and guessing which of several drivers is stale; its free scan identifies reported issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version.

Why regsvr32 usually does not apply
Do not run regsvr32 imguix.dll as a routine fix. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by COM or ActiveX components.
There is no verified evidence that imguix.dll is a COM or ActiveX server. Registering it will not restore a missing dependency, repair a damaged application installation, or make Windows find the correct application-local copy.
Avoid instructions that tell you to run:
regsvr32 imguix.dll
regsvr32 /u imguix.dll
regsvr32 /i imguix.dll
Use the program’s installer instead.
What not to do
Do not:
- Download
imguix.dllfrom a random DLL download site. - Copy it into both
System32andSysWOW64. - Replace a working copy with a similarly named file.
- Mix a 32-bit and 64-bit DLL.
- Assume the description proves that the file belongs to modern Dear ImGui.
- Disable antivirus protection to force an unknown file into the installation.
- Run registration commands without evidence that the DLL supports COM registration.
- Use SFC as a way to restore a game’s private DLL.
- Claim that one copy works for every game or application.
An unverified download can have the wrong version, wrong architecture, missing dependencies, or unsafe contents. It can also leave the original installation problem unresolved.
If the error remains after reinstalling
Work through these checks:
- Confirm the shortcut points to the current executable.
- Confirm the program folder is on a connected drive.
- Check whether
imguix.dllis present beside the executable that loads it. - Check Microsoft Defender Protection history again.
- Confirm that the application is 32-bit if its documentation identifies it as an older 32-bit program.
- Reinstall the application’s supplied prerequisites.
- Apply the application’s official legacy patch or compatibility guidance.
- Use a dependency-analysis utility to identify the module that actually fails.
- Test with application modifications temporarily removed.
- Use System Restore only when the failure clearly began after a recent system change and a suitable restore point exists.
System Restore is not a substitute for reinstalling the affected application.
FAQ
Is imguix.dll a Windows system file?
No evidence shows that it ships with Windows. Available records place it with third-party applications, especially older CFS3-related software.
Is imguix.dll part of Dear ImGui?
That has not been verified. The description “imgui DLL” is not enough to establish a connection with the modern Dear ImGui project.
Which program installed imguix.dll?
The exact parent product is not conclusively established. FirePower and Over Flanders Fields or related CFS3 installations are documented associations, but they are not proven to be the only applications that use it.
Should I download the file from the internet?
No. Restore it through the original installer, an official patch, a launcher repair feature, or a known-good backup from the same application release.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Should I put it in System32?
No. An application-private DLL normally belongs in the folder containing the executable that loads it.
Why does Windows say “specified module could not be found” when the file is present?
The named file may depend on another missing DLL. Reinstall the parent application and its supplied prerequisites, then inspect the dependency chain if the error continues.
Can SFC restore imguix.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, not third-party DLLs installed by an older game or utility.
Will regsvr32 fix the error?
Usually not. There is no verified evidence that imguix.dll requires COM registration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
