imjppred.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows component used by the Japanese Microsoft IME prediction and suggestion system. If Windows says imjppred.dll is missing, corrupted, or cannot be loaded, repair Windows and the Japanese language feature instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
The normal locations are:
C:WindowsSystem32IMEIMEJPimjppred.dll
C:WindowsSysWOW64IMEIMEJPimjppred.dll
On 64-bit Windows, System32 normally contains 64-bit system files and SysWOW64 contains 32-bit files. The exact file version depends on your Windows release, architecture, language features, and installed updates.

Identify the file before repairing it
| Item | What it means |
|---|---|
| Component | Microsoft Japanese IME prediction functionality |
| Normal 64-bit path | %SystemRoot%System32IMEIMEJPimjppred.dll |
| Possible 32-bit path | %SystemRoot%SysWOW64IMEIMEJPimjppred.dll |
| Older metadata | Some Windows 8-era files were labelled Microsoft IME 2012 |
| Correct repair source | Windows servicing or the official Japanese language feature |
Historical Microsoft manifests list both 32-bit and 64-bit builds, including older 15.0.9200.x versions. Those numbers are not universal replacement versions. Do not substitute a DLL simply because its filename matches.

Do this first: repair Windows components
A missing or damaged protected system file is the most likely explanation when the error names a copy under System32IMEIMEJP or SysWOW64IMEIMEJP.
First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then repair the component store and protected system files:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart the computer.
Run DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component source that SFC uses to restore protected files. Microsoft’s full procedure is documented in its System File Checker repair instructions.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Success means SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, or that it found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Open the application or Windows feature that produced the error and test Japanese input.
If DISM reports that source files could not be found, install pending updates and run the command again. In managed environments, an administrator can provide a verified Windows installation source with DISM’s /Source and /LimitAccess options. Do not point DISM at a random downloaded DLL.
Repeating SFC and DISM manually can make it difficult to tell which repair changed the system. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying issue and show what needs attention, while its repair functions require the full version; it is optional, and Windows servicing remains the appropriate first repair for this Microsoft component.

The official Microsoft Japanese IME installation guidance covers the current Windows language configuration. Windows Features is not normally where Microsoft IME is repaired. Do not enable unrelated optional Windows components in an attempt to restore this DLL.
Interpret the exact error
Different messages point to slightly different conditions:
- “IMJPPRED.dll was not found” usually means the expected file is absent from the path needed by Windows or the process.
- “The file IMJPPRED.dll is missing or corrupted” suggests deletion, filesystem damage, or a failed update.
- “The program can’t start because IMJPPRED.dll is missing from your computer” may be generated by an application that triggered an IME function, but it does not prove that the application owns the file.
- “Error loading IMJPPRED.dll. The specified module could not be found” can mean the DLL exists but one of its dependencies cannot load.
- “IMJPPRED.dll is corrupted” points toward Windows integrity, disk, antivirus, or update problems.
- “Cannot register IMJPPRED.dll” does not mean registration is the correct repair.
The application named in the pop-up is not necessarily the source of the DLL. Check the full path and the executable involved in Event Viewer before deciding whether an application reinstall is appropriate.
To inspect the event:
- Press
Win+R. - Type
eventvwr.msc. - Press Enter.
- Open Windows Logs and select Application or System.
- Look for an event at the time of the failure.
- Record the executable name, DLL path, and error code.
Check whether the file is legitimate
A file named imjppred.dll is not automatically safe merely because the name is correct. Verify its location and signature.
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to:
C:WindowsSystem32IMEIMEJP
- If you are on 64-bit Windows, also check:
C:WindowsSysWOW64IMEIMEJP
- Right-click
imjppred.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Inspect the signer and signature status.
A Microsoft Windows location and a valid Microsoft signature are reassuring. A copy in a game folder, temporary directory, Downloads folder, or an unrelated application directory deserves additional scrutiny. Do not overwrite the Windows copy with a file from another computer unless it is a controlled recovery using the same Windows build and an authorized servicing process.
Check antivirus quarantine
Windows Security or another antivirus product may have quarantined the file after an update or false detection.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the error began.
- Expand any entry involving
imjppred.dll. - Confirm its original path and detection details.
Restore or allow the file only when it is in the expected Windows IME directory and its Microsoft signature is valid. Otherwise, leave it quarantined, update the security product, and run a full scan. Microsoft explains this workflow in its Protection History guidance.
If SFC restores the file and antivirus removes it again, do not keep restoring it repeatedly. Resolve the detection with the security vendor or Windows Security, then repair the component again.

Do not confuse Windows IME with Office IME
Current Windows Japanese IME and the older Microsoft Office IME are related but are not interchangeable components.
If the problem occurs only with an older Office 2010 installation on Windows 8, repair Office from Control Panel:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Select Microsoft Office.
- Choose Change.
- Select Repair.
- Follow the prompts and restart.
For the legacy Windows 8 integration, use Microsoft’s official Office 2010 Japanese IME add-in, choosing the package that matches the installation architecture. This is a special legacy case, not the normal repair for Windows 10 or Windows 11 Japanese IME.
If the error occurs in a modern Windows application, repair Windows and the Japanese language feature first. Reinstalling Office will not normally restore a damaged Windows-protected IME file.
Use the previous IME version only as a compatibility workaround
If Japanese input crashes or behaves incorrectly after an update but imjppred.dll is present and Windows integrity checks pass, try Microsoft’s compatibility setting:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Time & language.
- Select Language & region.
- Open Japanese language options.
- Select Microsoft IME settings.
- Open General.
- Expand Compatibility.
- Turn on Use previous version of Microsoft IME.
This is a temporary compatibility workaround, not a replacement for a missing or corrupt system file. Microsoft describes the setting in its previous IME version guidance.
Check architecture and build before replacing anything
Do not copy a 32-bit file into System32, or a 64-bit file into SysWOW64. On 64-bit Windows, both directories may contain an imjppred.dll, but they serve different types of processes.
Also avoid copying a file from:
- Another Windows version
- Another update level
- A different language configuration
- A different architecture
- An unverified backup
Microsoft’s historical manifests show that the file’s version and size vary by Windows build. A matching filename alone is not enough.

Device Manager is not normally a repair tool for imjppred.dll. The file belongs to the Windows Japanese IME stack, not a display, sound, printer, or chipset driver. If Device Manager shows a separate warning for a keyboard or input device, resolve that independently.
If the wider problem began after a chipset, keyboard, or laptop manufacturer driver change, install drivers only from Windows Update or the device manufacturer. Avoid driver replacement as a substitute for DISM and SFC.
When several input devices show warnings, manually identifying the correct driver version can be tedious. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers, while driver installation through the full version is optional; it is not required to repair the Windows IME file itself.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic fix
regsvr32 applies to DLLs that are designed to register COM or ActiveX components through registration entry points. Some builds may expose registration-related exports, but that does not make manual registration the normal repair for a protected Windows IME component.
Do not run:
regsvr32 imjppred.dll
after downloading or copying a replacement file. It can produce another error, register the wrong build, or distract from the actual component-store problem. Use DISM, SFC, and the official language-feature installation instead.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What not to do
- Do not download
imjppred.dllfrom a random DLL website. - Do not replace the file with a different Windows build.
- Do not copy between
System32andSysWOW64. - Do not disable antivirus permanently to restore the file.
- Do not reinstall Visual C++, DirectX, or unrelated runtimes without evidence that the error concerns them.
- Do not assume the application named in the pop-up owns the DLL.
- Do not use
regsvr32as a first-line repair. - Do not delete the entire
IMEJPdirectory manually.
Random DLL downloads can contain malware, use the wrong architecture, lack a valid Microsoft signature, or fail because the underlying language feature and component store remain damaged.

FAQ
Is imjppred.dll malware?
The genuine file is a Microsoft Windows Japanese IME component. A copy outside the normal Windows IME directories should not automatically be trusted. Check its path and Microsoft digital signature.
Is it part of Microsoft Office?
Usually, it is part of the Windows Japanese IME stack. Older Windows 8 and Office 2010 installations had a separate legacy Office IME integration, so an Office-only failure may require repairing that specific component.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsShould I reinstall the game or application?
Only if Event Viewer and the DLL path show that the application privately ships its own copy. For a file under the Windows IME directories, repair Windows and Japanese language support first.
Can I download the missing DLL?
No. Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, or the official Japanese language installation. A downloaded copy may be malicious, incompatible, incorrectly signed, or the wrong architecture.
Why does Windows say the specified module cannot be found when the file exists?
The message can refer to a missing dependency rather than imjppred.dll itself. DISM, SFC, and reinstalling the Japanese IME are safer than guessing which dependency to copy.
When should I use System Restore?
Use it when the issue follows a recent system change and a restore point predates the failure. If no suitable restore point exists, use an in-place Windows repair after completing the servicing steps.
