imscdicb.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows component associated with Microsoft Pinyin IME 2012, not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, .NET component, or Microsoft Office DLL. If Windows reports that imscdicb.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair the Chinese language and input features instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
What imscdicb.dll is
Microsoft servicing records identify imscdicb.dll among the Chinese Pinyin IME files used with Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012-era packages. One documented Microsoft version is 15.0.9200.16384, dated July 26, 2012.

The file is associated particularly with Microsoft Pinyin IME 2012. It is not necessarily present on every Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation. Current Microsoft Pinyin is delivered through Windows language and keyboard features, while an older application or upgraded installation may still refer to this legacy filename.

Microsoft records show different file sizes in different servicing contexts, including 56,832 bytes and 68,096 bytes. Therefore, size alone cannot prove that a copy is genuine. The expected path, architecture, version, and servicing context depend on the Windows build and installed language components.

What the error messages mean
You may see wording such as:
- “The program can’t start because IMSCDICB.DLL is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading IMSCDICB.DLL. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load IMSCDICB.DLL.”
- “The procedure entry point … could not be located in IMSCDICB.DLL.”
The first three usually indicate that Windows or an application could not load the named file. However, “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency required by the DLL is missing. The named file may exist while another component prevents it from loading.
An entry-point error is different. It can indicate that an application found a DLL but expects a function that is absent from that version. That commonly points to a mismatch between an old application and the Windows or IME files currently installed.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11The timing provides useful evidence:
- An error when switching to Chinese input points toward the language feature or Microsoft Pinyin.
- An error during Windows startup may indicate damaged system files, a failed update, or an old startup item.
- An error from only one legacy application may mean that the application expects an obsolete component.
- An error after changing languages, upgrading Windows, running a cleanup utility, or recovering from disk problems suggests incomplete or damaged servicing.
- A quarantine event raises a security question that should be checked before restoring anything.
Fix 1: Reinstall Chinese Simplified and Microsoft Pinyin
This is the safest first repair when the error appears while using Chinese input.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Open Language & region.
- Under Preferred languages, find Chinese (Simplified, China).
- If it is missing, select Add a language, search for Chinese (Simplified, China), and install it.
- Open the language’s Language options.
- Under Keyboards, confirm that Microsoft Pinyin is listed.
- If it is absent, select Add a keyboard and choose Microsoft Pinyin.
- If it is already present, remove the keyboard, restart Windows, return to the same screen, and add it again.
- Restart the computer and test the input switch with Windows + Space.
Microsoft provides the relevant steps in its guide to managing language and keyboard input settings.
If Windows will not install the language feature, first install pending Windows updates and restart. Then return to Settings > Time & language > Language & region and repeat the installation.
Do not assume that a modern Windows installation must contain the old imscdicb.dll filename. If Microsoft Pinyin works normally after reinstalling the language feature, the original error may have come from an outdated application or a stale startup entry rather than a missing file that Windows needs today.

Fix 2: Install pending Windows updates
An incomplete Windows upgrade or servicing operation can leave language resources and protected files out of sync.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart when Windows requests it.
- Check for updates again after the restart.
- Test Microsoft Pinyin or the application that displayed the error.
On older Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 systems, Microsoft published Pinyin-related updates and rollups. Use Windows Update or the update history for that installation rather than copying files from another computer.
Fix 3: Repair the Windows component store, then run SFC
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker when protected Windows files are missing or corrupted.
- Open the Start menu and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window while it is working.
- Run System File Checker:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands complete.
- Test the Chinese keyboard and the program that reported
imscdicb.dll.
The Microsoft SFC and DISM repair instructions explain the result messages.

If it says that some files could not be repaired, run DISM again after installing updates, then repeat sfc /scannow. Persistent corruption may require System Restore or a Windows repair installation.
Running these commands manually means interpreting logs and repeating repairs without always knowing which component changed. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the underlying problems and show what needs attention, while repair actions are handled by the full version; it is optional, and Windows repair remains the supported path.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
If Microsoft Defender removed or quarantined the file, do not immediately restore it.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections related to the time the error began.
- Expand a detection to view its file path, threat name, and action.
- Restore or allow the file only if you have confirmed that it came from Microsoft-serviced Windows files and the detection is a false positive.
- Run a Quick scan or Full scan after resolving the detection.
Microsoft warns that allowing a genuine threat can expose the device. Its Protection History documentation also notes that history is retained for only a limited period. If the event is no longer visible, rely on Windows Security scans and component repair instead of guessing which DLL to restore.

Fix 5: Repair the application that raises the error
If Microsoft Pinyin works but one old program still reports imscdicb.dll, treat that as an application compatibility problem.
- Record the application name and the complete error text.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- If Repair does not resolve the problem, use Reset only if you understand that it may remove application data and settings.
- For older desktop software, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the program and choose Change, Repair, or Uninstall, depending on what the installer provides.
- Reinstall it using the developer’s official installer or recovery media.
- Restart Windows and test the program again.
Do not replace the DLL inside the application folder unless the program’s official installer supplies it. A legacy application may be expecting an older Windows input component that is not appropriate for a current operating system.
If the error names a different DLL after repair, stop treating imscdicb.dll as the only problem. The new filename may identify the actual missing dependency.
Fix 6: Check drivers only when the symptom points to hardware
A keyboard driver does not normally repair a missing Microsoft Pinyin component. Consider drivers only when the physical keyboard, USB connection, or input device also fails.
Recommended Free Tools
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards.
- Right-click the affected keyboard and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- If the device has a warning icon, right-click it, choose Uninstall device, restart, and allow Windows to detect it again.
Do not uninstall language features or system devices merely because imscdicb.dll is missing. If the keyboard works physically and only Chinese input fails, return to the language-feature and DISM/SFC repairs above.
Manually checking hardware vendors and comparing driver versions can involve guessing which of many drivers is stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version; it is optional and not a substitute for reinstalling Microsoft Pinyin.
Fix 7: Use System Restore for broader corruption
Use System Restore only when the problem began after a clear system change and ordinary repair did not work.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point and select Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart and complete the operation.
System Restore can revert applications, settings, and updates to an earlier state. Microsoft explains the process in its System Restore guide. Back up important work first and understand that changes made after the restore point may be lost.

What not to do
Do not download a standalone DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, an incompatible build, the wrong architecture, or a file that does not match the Windows language package. Copying it into System32, SysWOW64, or an application directory can also leave Windows with an unserviced component.
There is no verified official Microsoft standalone download page for imscdicb.dll. Use Windows Update, the installed language feature, DISM, SFC, or the official installer for the affected application.
Do not use regsvr32 routinely
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It does not restore missing Windows files or install Microsoft Pinyin. Running it against this file is not a general repair.
Microsoft documents the command’s purpose and syntax in its regsvr32 reference.
Do not copy a file based only on size or architecture
Microsoft’s servicing records show different package-specific sizes and architecture fields. A 32-bit or 64-bit assumption based on the filename alone is unsafe. Match the Windows build and language component through supported servicing.

- The application that displays it
- Whether Microsoft Pinyin itself works
- The path shown for the file, if any
- Recent updates, language changes, cleanup operations, antivirus detections, or disk failures
- The final messages from DISM and SFC
- Whether another missing DLL appears after repair

FAQ
Is imscdicb.dll malware?
The filename is associated with a genuine Microsoft Pinyin IME component, but a filename alone does not prove that every copy is safe. Check its origin, path, Windows Security history, and Microsoft servicing context. Do not restore a quarantined file without confirming the detection is false.
Should Windows 11 contain this file?
Not necessarily. imscdicb.dll is documented primarily with Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012-era Microsoft Pinyin packages. Current Windows language features may not use or expose this exact legacy filename.
Is it part of Microsoft Office or Visual C++?
No. The evidence identifies it with Microsoft Pinyin IME 2012 and Chinese input support, not Office, Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET.
Will reinstalling Chinese Simplified fix it?
It is the most appropriate first repair when the error affects Microsoft Pinyin or Chinese input. If only an old application fails, repair or reinstall that application after confirming its dependency.
What if the file is missing only on an old Windows 8 installation?
Install pending updates, reinstall the Chinese language feature, then run DISM and SFC. Do not copy the file from another computer because Windows servicing packages can differ in size, architecture, and context.

What if another DLL is missing afterward?
Treat the new message as separate evidence. It may be a dependency of the original component or an application-specific problem. Record the full path and repair the program or Windows feature that owns that file.
