Bethesda’s nearly 15-minute gameplay deep dive lays out that mix without making the adventure feel like a sequence of gunfights.

What kind of Indiana Jones game is it?

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a first-person, single-player adventure set between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. Bethesda’s January 2024 reveal named destinations including the Vatican, Egypt, Sukhothai, and the Himalayas. MachineGames developed the game with Lucasfilm Games; Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard served as executive producer. Bethesda’s reveal included more than 13 minutes of gameplay footage, while its later deep dive offers a separate, nearly 15-minute look at locations, puzzles, gear, and combat.

Puzzles belong to the places they occupy

The deep dive presents puzzles as obstacles and secrets embedded in the world, from smaller discoveries to larger challenges. Indy’s camera can reveal a new perspective or offer a clue if a player gets stuck. Audio Director Pete Ward described the intention this way: “Every puzzle is designed to fit seamlessly into the world.” That world-first approach is a natural match for an adventure about interpreting what a location contains rather than selecting answers from a detached menu.

The pace changes between missions and open areas

The game mixes more linear, mission-focused sections with larger explorable regions. In the broader areas, players can take on side missions, meet characters, pursue mysteries, and even find an underground fight club. That structure leaves room for a directed story while also making curiosity a choice: the main path is there, but so are reasons to wander.

Optional activity feeds progression

Main missions and optional objectives award Adventure Points that can be used to improve Indy’s abilities. Adventure Books found in the world unlock abilities; Bethesda’s example, “Lucky Hat,” gives Indy another chance to get back up after being knocked out. The system ties growth to both advancing the story and investigating beyond it.

How the whip, stealth, and combat fit together

Indy’s gear includes his fedora, revolver, and signature whip, but the deep dive presents the whip as more than a weapon. It can help with traversal as well as combat, opening up ways to move through a space or get past guards. Fists and the whip can also help avoid turning every encounter into a loud gunfight.

Players can sneak past patrols, create distractions, swing by guards, and wear disguises in some enemy areas. Disguises are not a free pass: the player still needs to avoid attracting attention. These options support the fantasy of resourcefulness better than a single default approach would. Ward summarized the design goal as being built around “the charm and resourcefulness of our hero.”

Where to play, and what differs by platform

Bethesda’s March 2025 deep-dive page lists Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass, and identifies December 9 as the Xbox Series X|S and PC launch date, with early access beginning December 6. Those dates describe the original launch context; the game is also now available on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

The central first-person adventure is shared across these releases, while some controls and platform-holder-described features differ. Sony’s PS5 descriptions and Bethesda’s Switch 2 control details do not establish which version is best for every player; the useful comparison is whether you prefer the platform and input options you already use.

What the deep dive does—and does not—establish

The footage and official descriptions explain the intended structure of play: investigate environments, keep track of clues, solve world-integrated puzzles, and choose how to handle obstacles. They do not establish independent performance results or answer how every system feels across a full playthrough. For that reason, the strongest reason to be excited is the design premise itself: Indiana Jones’s curiosity and improvisation are treated as things the player actively does, not just traits the story describes.
