The June 2024 Xbox Games Showcase featured an extended story sequence from Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, set in the Himalayas. Indy and his new companion Gina pursue a relic while trying to evade Colonel Viktor Gantz. A follow-up interview published June 14 explained the wider mystery and the game’s first-person adventure design.

The Himalayas sequence follows Indy and Gina as they try to recover a relic and avoid Gantz. It is one stop in a story that takes Indy across the globe, rather than a standalone account of the game’s plot.

In the June 14, 2024 Xbox Wire interview, MachineGames game director Jerk Gustafsson said the story begins when an ancient relic is stolen from the college where Indy works. His effort to find the thief leads to a conspiracy involving ancient sites and mysterious artifacts.

The adventure is set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. Its itinerary includes Marshall College, the Himalayas, Sukhothai in Thailand, the Vatican and the Pyramids of Giza.

How gameplay combines exploration, puzzles and action
A mostly first-person adventure
MachineGames described the game as primarily first-person, with third-person views used for selected cinematic moments. Design director Jens Andersson explained the perspective in the January 2024 reveal: “Since we are doing this mostly in first-person, you have the chance to truly become Indy.”
More than a combat game
The developers emphasized Indy’s wits, exploration and puzzle-solving, alongside stealth and fistfighting. Bethesda’s March 2025 extended gameplay feature adds that the whip serves as both a traversal and combat tool, and that the game combines linear story missions with larger explorable regions. Gustafsson summed up the intended approach in the June interview: “We are making a proper adventure game here.”

Platforms and purchase formats
The platform information changed after the original reveal. In January 2024, Bethesda announced the game for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with day-one Game Pass access. Bethesda’s current purchase page lists purchase routes for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The January announcement is historical, not a current platform list.
Bethesda says physical Standard Edition purchases for Xbox and PS5 include a game disc, while noting that physical availability varies by region. Check the platform, edition and local listing before purchasing; availability can differ by location.
