The October 2024 Infinity Nikki Reunion Playtest paired open-world exploration and quests with outfit-based abilities, crafting, and styling. PlayStation Blog contributor Heidi Kemps described a PS5 hands-on session built around helping residents, solving problems, and discovering what Nikki’s clothes could do—not a combat-focused adventure. The test was closed, selected participants’ progress was wiped afterward, and Infold cautioned that the build was still in development and did not represent the finished game.
When did the Infinity Nikki beta run, and who could play?
Infold’s Reunion Playtest ran from October 8, 2024 at 10:00 through October 22, 2024 at 23:59 (UTC+8) on PC and Android/iOS mobile. Its August recruitment notice said applicants would be selected based on their survey responses and contacted by email; on October 6, Infold announced that invitations had been sent. The questionnaire deadline was September 29 at 23:59 (UTC+8). Infold’s recruitment notice and September schedule update give the test details; the October 6 notice confirms invitations were sent.

This was a data-wipe test: Infold said progress would be erased after the test. The October notice also said each account could be bound to one device per platform during the test. It was not an open beta, and the test window has ended.
The hands-on account discussed below is Heidi Kemps’s PlayStation Blog report from a PS5 session. It is evidence of what that contributor encountered, not a report from every participant or a performance test across platforms.

What was in the Infinity Nikki closed beta?
Kemps’s session framed Nikki’s adventure around exploration, questing, discovery, and design, with less emphasis on combat. She describes joining the Stylists Guild, helping townspeople, investigating an illness, and taking part in a styling contest. One quest sent Nikki into a frog-filled well to restore electricity to Florawish. These examples give a sense of the beta’s varied activities without suggesting every player followed the same route.
Outfits were more than cosmetic changes in this account: particular clothes granted abilities that helped with traversal, puzzles, and collecting. Early outfits let Nikki float after jumping and fire purifying energy. Kemps also describes sets for grooming animals, catching bugs, fishing, and repairing electronics. The loop connected finding materials in the world to crafting outfits, then using their powers to reach resources or solve problems.

Finding outfits and improving abilities
Outfit sketches could be found in chests or earned through quests. Whimstars gathered around the world unlocked parts of the Infinity Heart tree, which in turn unlocked and enhanced important outfit sketches. The report mentions challenges involving platforming, item collection, and outfit-specific tasks, linking exploration and progression rather than treating wardrobe collection as a separate menu activity.

Is Infinity Nikki mostly dress-up or exploration?
In the October session described by Kemps, it was a combination: styling and clothing collection were central, while exploration gave those systems practical purpose. Outfit abilities opened ways to move through the world, interact with animals and objects, and tackle challenges. Quests supplied direction and rewards; gathering and crafting helped expand Nikki’s options. That makes “dress-up versus exploration” a false choice for this beta account—the systems fed into one another.
Infold producer and founder Runhao Yao described the intended blend in a May 2024 overview: “In this fifth installment, Infinity Nikki, we merge dress-up gameplay with the open-world genre, allowing Nikki to explore by using the special abilities of different outfits in a warm, delightful world.” Yao’s PlayStation Blog overview also described floating, purification, gliding, shrinking, photography with Momo’s Camera, puzzles, collecting, and platforming. That overview is a description of the game’s design, not confirmation that every listed feature appeared in the October test.

What the playtest can—and cannot—tell you
The Reunion Playtest offers a limited snapshot, not a verdict on the released game. Infold explicitly warned that the beta content was in development and did not represent the final game. Kemps’s PS5 impressions illuminate a particular session, but they do not establish broad tester consensus, benchmarked performance, or the quality and balance of the final release. For a separate point of chronology, a November 2024 PS5 closed playtest guide specified a North American PlayStation account for downloading and the Infold account used on the recruitment survey for access; those instructions concern a later test, not the October Reunion Playtest. The November guide describes that separate event.
