Retail WoW: use the Portal Room
- Travel to the Mage Quarter in Stormwind and enter the Portal Room inside the Mage Tower.
- Choose the portal that matches your destination: the Caverns of Time in Tanaris is a useful general arrival point on Kalimdor; The Exodar takes you to Azuremyst Isle.
- After arriving, travel onward to your specific Kalimdor zone if needed.
These portal locations are listed in current third-party travel guides: WoW Head’s portal guide and Warcraft Wiki’s portal guide. The game is the final check for whether a portal is available to your character.

If you cannot use a portal
First confirm whether you are playing Retail or Classic; their routes are different. If you are in Retail and a portal is missing or unusable, character eligibility may be a factor, but a community report does not establish a definitive, universal level requirement. Check the portals available in your game rather than assuming a reported restriction applies to every character. Blizzard forum discussion.
WoW Classic: take a boat
Blizzard’s Classic travel guide identifies a ship from Stormwind Harbor to Rut’theran Village, on Teldrassil. From there, you can continue to the Kalimdor zone you want. The same guide describes other Alliance boat connections, including Menethil Harbor to Theramore, and Darkshore to Rut’theran Village or Menethil Harbor. A neutral boat also connects Booty Bay and Ratchet.

Choose the route by destination and onward travel:
- Rut’theran Village: Take the Stormwind Harbor ship described in Blizzard’s Stormwind city tour.
- Theramore: Use the Alliance boat connection from Menethil Harbor.
- Ratchet: The Booty Bay–Ratchet connection is a neutral boat route, so it requires reaching Booty Bay first.
Blizzard’s boat and city information is in WoW Classic: Getting around Azeroth and Explore Stormwind City. These are Classic guides published in 2019; they document Classic transit, not current Retail routes.
Do not take the Deeprun Tram to reach Kalimdor
The Deeprun Tram runs between Stormwind and Ironforge, not Kalimdor. It can help you reach Ironforge, but it is not a route across the sea. Blizzard describes it as free transportation between those two Alliance capitals in its Classic travel guide.

For Classic, other documented boat connections include Menethil Harbor to Theramore, Darkshore to Rut’theran Village or Menethil Harbor, and Booty Bay to Ratchet. Retail portals and Classic boats are not interchangeable instructions: verify your game version before setting out.
