To get the film and progress beyond Inscryption’s repeating Act One encounter, solve the cabin puzzles in this order: open the safe with 273, use its key on the cabinet, break the Caged Wolf card in battle, place the wooden wolf carving beside the squirrel statue to release the dagger, then use the dagger and choose the marked eye. That eye reveals the cuckoo clock setting; the clock’s lower compartment contains the Stunted Wolf and the film.
How do I solve the Inscryption Act 1 cabin puzzles?
The cabin mixes card-combat puzzles with objects that unlock the next part of the story. The safe, cabinet, Caged Wolf, dagger and film form the required progression chain. The painting and the clock’s ring offer helpful extras, but neither replaces the film.

- Open the safe. Enter 273, the code hinted at on the Mighty Leap page of the rulebook. Take both the talking Stinkbug card and the key. The key is for the sliding-puzzle cabinet nearby, not the cabin exit.
- Solve the cabinet drawers. Use the key to access the four card-board puzzles. Each is a small battle puzzle: arrange cards and lanes to deal the required five points. The drawers introduce the Caged Wolf and other rewards, including cards and a squirrel totem head.
- Break the Caged Wolf’s cage. Draw and play the Caged Wolf card during a battle, then let it take damage until its cage breaks. After the battle, stand up and collect the wooden wolf carving from the cabin.
- Release the dagger. Carry the wooden carving to the squirrel statue holding a dagger. Place the carving in the matching space beside the statue to release the dagger as a battle item.
- Use the dagger and choose the marked eye. Use the dagger in battle. When Leshy offers replacement eyes, select the distinctive marked or glowing eye; it reveals clues invisible with the ordinary eyes. If that eye is not offered yet, continue progressing through the run rather than repeating the safe or cabinet.
- Open the clock’s lower compartment. Return to the cuckoo clock and set its hands to match the markings revealed by the special eye. Take both the Stunted Wolf and the roll of film. The film is the item that advances the story beyond the repeated Leshy encounter.
How do the four cabinet puzzles work?
Think of each drawer as a compact card battle. Tiles represent creatures in lanes and rows, and the goal is to arrange attacks that deal five points of direct damage. An opposing creature may block an attack instead of letting it hit Leshy, so placing cards in the right lanes matters as much as their printed attack values.

- Airborne: normally lets a creature attack over the opposing creature in its lane.
- Mighty Leap: allows a creature to intercept an airborne attack.
- Loose Tail: changes the blocking arrangement when the creature is attacked.
- Ants: gain attack strength according to the number of ants on their side.
- Bifurcated Strike: attacks adjacent lanes.
- Sharp Quills: damages a creature that attacks it.
Test the board rather than guessing coordinates
Move one tile at a time and ring the bell to see the resulting damage. The puzzle depends on both lane placement and card abilities; there is no need to rely on a memorized arrangement if a move changes how blockers or attacks resolve. The cabinet’s central story reward is the Caged Wolf, which begins the next object puzzle.
What is required, and what is optional?
If your goal is to move beyond Act One’s loop, focus on the wolf-to-film chain. The painting and ring provide separate advantages for card runs rather than substitutes for a progression item.

Painting: match the displayed battle arrangement
The painting shows a card arrangement to recreate during a real battle. Once the cards and lanes match, return to the painting to collect the reward. Its displayed arrangement can change, so check it again rather than assuming it is always the same. The painting sequence is optional and does not unlock the wolf, dagger or film chain.

Clock ring: a different reward from the film
The clock’s upper compartment contains the ring. Its use is tied to the Trial of the Ring; it is not the film, which comes from the lower compartment after the marked-eye clue is revealed.

Which cabin objects are easy to confuse?
- Caged Wolf is the card you play in battle; the wooden wolf carving is a separate object collected after the card’s cage breaks.
- The squirrel totem head is a cabinet reward. It is not the squirrel statue that holds the dagger.
- The ring is the clock’s upper-compartment reward. The film is in the lower compartment and advances the story.
