In the video game, Alexander is a large warrior jar whose body contains inherited remains, or “dregs,” from previous warriors. The game’s item descriptions suggest that warriors are passed from jar to jar, carrying their dreams of greatness into new vessels. Alexander is therefore both an individual character and the latest container for a martial inheritance.
That dual identity explains much of his story. He is boastful but self-deprecating, physically imposing but frequently stuck, and determined to prove himself despite repeatedly discovering that he is not yet the champion he imagines. His final battle is not simply another boss encounter: Alexander wants his death to be the culmination of his training and a worthy conclusion to his life as a warrior.
Alexander’s quest walkthrough
Alexander’s quest can be completed across much of the game. Some encounters may be skipped without permanently breaking the storyline, but visiting each location preserves the intended sequence and ensures that you do not miss optional dialogue, summons, or rewards.
1. Free Alexander near Saintsbridge
Location: Saintsbridge, Stormhill, Limgrave.
Alexander calls for help after becoming wedged in a shallow depression beside the road near Saintsbridge. Speak to him and agree to help. Move behind the jar and strike the rear of his body until he pops free.
Talk to him again after freeing him and exhaust his dialogue. This first meeting can provide the Triumphant Delight gesture and Exalted Flesh.
The encounter establishes the pattern for the quest: Alexander is confident that he is destined for greatness, but he needs the Tarnished’s assistance before he can continue his journey.
2. Visit him in Gael Tunnel
Location: Gael Tunnel, on the Limgrave–Caelid route.
Alexander next appears inside Gael Tunnel. The tunnel has entrances on both sides, and approaching from the wrong direction can make it seem as though Alexander is trapped behind a locked door.
If necessary, enter through the Caelid side, progress through the tunnel, and open the relevant door from inside. Speak with Alexander once you reach him and exhaust his dialogue.
This visit is optional in the sense that later quest stages can still catch up with you, but it is the intended next chapter in Alexander’s journey and is worth completing for the narrative continuity.
3. Meet Alexander at Redmane Castle and summon him against Radahn
Location: Redmane Castle during the Starscourge Radahn Festival.

- UNO card game provides classic play, where players match colors or numbers in a race to get rid of all their cards!
- Action Cards and Wild Cards add unexpected excitement and game-changing fun, like the Reverse Card that switches the direction of play!
- The deck includes 3 blank Wild Cards for house rules anyone can make up -- erase and create new rules each game!
- When down to one card, players don't want to forget to yell 'UNO!' Keep score and the first player or team to 500 wins!
- The color blind accessible deck has special graphic symbols on each card to help identify its color, allowing players with any form of color blindness to play!
When the Radahn Festival is active, Alexander appears at Redmane Castle alongside the other warriors preparing to challenge Starscourge Radahn. His gold summon sign can also appear inside the boss arena.
Summoning Alexander for the fight is optional. If he dies during the battle, that does not permanently end his quest. After Radahn is defeated, travel to the battlefield and speak with Alexander near the Site of Grace.
Alexander reflects on his performance and admits that he still needs to become stronger. This is the first major sign that his ambition is not empty bravado: he treats every battle as part of a continuing effort to improve himself.
4. Free Alexander above Jarburg in Liurnia
Location: Cliffs above Jarburg, south of the Artist’s Shack area in Liurnia of the Lakes.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Alexander becomes stuck in the ground for a second time. A normal strike will not free him here. Throw an Oil Pot at him first, speak to him again, and then strike the rear of his jar body until he is dislodged.
Exhaust his dialogue before leaving. This stage is especially important because it connects Alexander’s personal story to Jarburg, the home of the peaceful jar people and the setting for Jar-Bairn’s quest.
5. Find Alexander in the lava on Mt. Gelmir
Location: Near Fort Laiedd and the Magma Wyrm area on Mt. Gelmir.
Alexander can be found standing in a pool of lava. Approach from a nearby rock or safe edge so that you can speak with him without taking unnecessary damage. The conversation reveals that he is using the extreme heat as another form of training.
At the end of this encounter, Alexander gives you the Jar helm. This character-themed helmet increases throwing-pot damage by 15%, making it particularly useful for builds that rely on crafted pots.
6. Summon Alexander against the Fire Giant
Location: Mountaintops of the Giants, during the Fire Giant battle.
After the Mt. Gelmir encounter, Alexander can appear as an optional summon for the Fire Giant. His presence is a satisfying narrative payoff: the warrior jar joins the Tarnished in another major battle before undertaking his final test.

7. Challenge Alexander in Crumbling Farum Azula
Location: Near the Dragon Temple Lift in Crumbling Farum Azula.
Late in the game, Alexander asks for a final one-on-one duel. This is the conclusion of his quest, and it is the only way to receive the upgraded reward associated with completing his journey.
Accept the challenge and defeat him in combat. If you lose, you can return and retry the duel. After winning, speak with Alexander and collect:
- Shard of Alexander
- Alexander’s Innards
Alexander’s final speech gives the duel its emotional weight. He is not ambushed or casually killed for loot; he has deliberately chosen a powerful opponent and wants his remains to pass on after a meaningful warrior’s death.

8. Continue Jar-Bairn’s quest in Jarburg
Alexander’s Innards are used in the linked Jar-Bairn storyline. Return to Jarburg and advance Jar-Bairn’s conversations until the quest reaches the stage where he can receive the item. Give him Alexander’s Innards to complete this part of the story and obtain the Companion Jar talisman.
This connection makes Alexander’s death more than a self-contained ending. His remains become part of the next generation of warrior-jar tradition, continuing the inheritance that defined him.
Alexander’s rewards
| Reward | How to obtain it | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Triumphant Delight | Free Alexander near Saintsbridge and complete the encounter | A gesture associated with Alexander’s first rescue |
| Exalted Flesh | Early Saintsbridge encounter | A useful consumable reward |
| Jar helm | Speak with Alexander on Mt. Gelmir | Increases throwing-pot damage by 15% |
| Alexander’s Innards | Win the final duel in Crumbling Farum Azula | Required for the relevant Jar-Bairn quest stage |
| Shard of Alexander | Win Alexander’s final duel | Increases the attack power of skills by 15% |
| Companion Jar | Give Alexander’s Innards to Jar-Bairn after progressing his quest | The linked reward from Jarburg’s storyline |
Shard of Alexander versus Warrior Jar Shard
The Shard of Alexander is the reward most players want from the quest. It increases skill attack power by 15%, making it highly valuable for builds that rely on weapon skills, ashes of war, or other skill-based damage.
Its weaker predecessor, the Warrior Jar Shard, can be obtained by killing Alexander early. That shortcut provides an immediate talisman, but it comes with significant costs:
Recommended Free Tools
- You lose Alexander’s intended questline and final duel.
- You miss his later summon opportunities, including the Fire Giant encounter.
- You receive the weaker Warrior Jar Shard instead of the Shard of Alexander.
- You cannot obtain Alexander’s Innards for Jar-Bairn’s storyline during that playthrough.
For a skill-focused character, killing Alexander early is usually a poor trade. The completed quest gives the stronger talisman, additional rewards, more story content, and access to the Jar-Bairn conclusion.
Common progression problems
Alexander is not at the location described
Check the earlier encounters and exhaust Alexander’s dialogue wherever you found him. Quest stages can catch up if you skipped a prior meeting, but the NPC may not appear until the preceding conversation or major event has been completed.

I killed Alexander too early
The early kill gives the Warrior Jar Shard but prevents the normal quest progression and final reward on that character. The stronger Shard of Alexander is obtained only by completing the final duel in Crumbling Farum Azula.
Why Alexander’s story works
Alexander’s quest is unusually effective because its tone changes without abandoning the character’s humor. At first, the Tarnished repeatedly finds a huge warrior jar in ridiculous situations: stuck in a pothole, sealed behind a door, or buried in the ground. The rescues make Alexander feel like comic relief.
That impression gradually gives way to something more serious. Alexander keeps seeking harder battles because he believes strength must be earned. He joins the fights against Radahn and the Fire Giant, trains in the lava of Mt. Gelmir, and eventually decides that his journey should end in a duel against someone capable of testing him properly.
The jar lore adds another layer. Alexander is not simply trying to become famous for himself. He carries the remains and aspirations of earlier warriors, so his desire for greatness is partly inherited. When his Innards pass to Jar-Bairn, the game turns that inheritance into a form of continuity rather than a dead end.

ELDEN RING: Iron Fist Alexander (SFG Exclusive) is a licensed expansion for ELDEN RING: The Board Game. It is not a standalone video game, not a general Elden Ring collectible, and not a complete board game by itself.
The expansion contains:
- One Iron Fist Alexander miniature
- Eight cards
It requires one of the three ELDEN RING: The Board Game core sets. The listed product details specify one to four players, a play time of more than 120 minutes, and a suggested age of 14 or older.
Availability requires particular care. On August 10, 2026, Steamforged Games’ official product page listed a price of $19.99 while also displaying both “Limited Stock Available” and “Sold out.” Those contradictory labels mean availability should be treated as uncertain rather than confirmed. Amazon marketplace stock was not independently confirmed in the same research check.
