A new PROTOTYPE game featuring Alex Mercer has not been confirmed by Activision. The claim comes from a now-deleted Reddit post attributed by coverage to someone who said they took part in an Activision focus group; the post’s reported details remain unverified.
What does the rumor claim?
Coverage of the deleted Reddit post says its author, identified as Bigbyy, claimed a new PROTOTYPE project was already in development and would bring original protagonist Alex Mercer back as the lead. Those are allegations attributed to an anonymous user, not details confirmed by Activision. The original post is no longer available, and later retellings do not independently verify its claims. TheGamer’s 2025 report and Tech4Gamers’ January 2026 report both describe the claim while cautioning that it has not been officially announced.

Has Activision confirmed a new PROTOTYPE?
No. The official Activision materials cited here document the released games and a later bundle, but do not announce the rumored project. What the official record says about Alex Mercer and the series
PROTOTYPE
Activision’s original-game release announcement identifies Alex Mercer as PROTOTYPE’s protagonist, with shape-shifting abilities in contemporary New York City. Activision’s release announcement establishes Mercer’s place in the released game, not his involvement in any new one.
PROTOTYPE 2
In its December 13, 2010 sequel announcement, Activision named Sgt. James Heller as PROTOTYPE 2’s protagonist and described him as pursuing Mercer. Activision also quoted Radical Entertainment Studio Head Ken Rosman: “When PROTOTYPE surpassed 2MM units we knew gamers would want a sequel to find out what happens next with Alex Mercer.” That is a statement made in 2010; it is not a current sales figure or evidence of a new sequel.
