No PlayStation Showcase was confirmed for May 2026. As of October 8, 2026, that month has passed, and PlayStation’s May 20 announcement was for a State of Play scheduled for June 2—not a Showcase. Sony’s reviewed official sources do not announce a future Showcase date or lineup, so predictions about what one might show remain speculation.
Was a PlayStation Showcase announced for May 2026?
No. PlayStation’s May 20, 2026 announcement was for a State of Play on June 2, 2026. The official Events archive identifies it as a State of Play, not a PlayStation Showcase. There is no confirmed May 2026 Showcase in the official sources reviewed.
That distinction matters because the phrase “coming this May” is now out of date: May 2026 has passed. The official record supports a June 2 State of Play, not a May Showcase or a newly announced future Showcase.
What is the difference between State of Play and PlayStation Showcase?
Sony uses the names for distinct programs. PlayStation describes State of Play as a video program for PlayStation updates, announcements, and trailers, with broadcasts scheduled throughout the year. The official page directs viewers to PlayStation’s Twitch, YouTube, or Facebook channels.

The available official descriptions do not establish a fixed rule that one format is always longer, more important, or more focused on first-party games. Sony’s May 2023 Showcase announcement described that particular event as “a bit over an hour,” but one event’s runtime is not a standing format promise.
What did Sony confirm about its May 2023 Showcase?
On May 17, 2023, PlayStation Blog’s Sid Shuman announced a Showcase for May 25. The announcement said it would run “a bit over an hour” and focus on PS5 and PS VR2 games in development from PlayStation Studios, third-party partners, and indie creators. Those details apply to the 2023 broadcast only.

Sony’s May 24, 2023 recap covered PS5, PS VR2, and PC games; new game and franchise reveals; updates to upcoming titles; and hardware-related news, including a first look at Project Q and PlayStation’s first official wireless earbuds. It also included Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and third-party and indie projects. This is a record of what happened in 2023, not evidence of a later lineup.
In that recap, Jim Ryan, then President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said: “Our fans expect and deserve a steady cadence of amazing content.” He described the presentation as demonstrating Sony’s commitment to a varied games catalog. That was Sony’s stated position in 2023, not a promise of another Showcase or its contents.

What should viewers expect from a future Showcase?
There is no confirmed future Showcase date or lineup in the official materials cited here. Without a verified announcement, naming particular games, studios, hardware, or a runtime as expected contents would go beyond what Sony has confirmed.
The 2023 event shows that Sony used a Showcase for a mix of game reveals, updates, and hardware-related news. It does not establish that a future Showcase will follow the same pattern. Treat any forecast as a prediction, and any claimed date or lineup as unconfirmed unless PlayStation announces it through an official channel.

Where to check for an official announcement
For State of Play broadcasts, PlayStation lists its official Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook channels on the State of Play page. The PlayStation Events archive provides an official record of event announcements. Check the event name and date in the announcement itself rather than assuming a State of Play means a Showcase.
