EA later reported a record-setting launch for Battlefield 6, but the available figures do not establish that it beat Call of Duty overall.
What did the report say Activision leadership thought?
Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson reported on August 6, 2025 that Activision leadership had been watching the hype around Battlefield 6 but was reportedly not concerned that it would outcompete Call of Duty. The report attributed that account to anonymous sources who said they were not authorized to discuss internal Activision conversations.
Those sources reportedly characterized leadership as believing Call of Duty would remain a profitable annual franchise. That is a report of internal views, not confirmed Activision guidance. “Too big to fail” was the headline’s characterization; it was not a statement attributed to a named executive.
How did Battlefield 6 perform after launch?
EA said Battlefield 6 sold more than 7 million copies in its first three days after launch, describing that as a franchise-record launch. This is a publisher-reported figure for a specific launch window, not a lifetime sales total or a direct comparison with Call of Duty.

In its FY26 results, EA later described Battlefield 6 as its best-performing Battlefield in a fiscal year and said the game set several franchise fiscal-year records. Those are EA’s characterizations of Battlefield’s performance; they do not show that Call of Duty lost the broader franchise contest.
Could Battlefield 6 beat Call of Duty?
It depends on what “beat” means. A launch sales figure, annual revenue, cumulative game sales, and active players measure different things. A fair head-to-head would also need matching time periods, regions, platforms, and sales coverage—and would need to account for the effect of subscription access on purchases and player counts.

The figures available here do not provide a directly comparable global lifetime sales or player-count dataset for Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7. Battlefield 6’s strong reported launch is meaningful on its own, but it cannot settle a broader comparison without like-for-like measures.
